BMW E36 Window Regulator Glides Fix

In this quick video I take a look at a 95 BMW 318i power window that has stopped working.
E36 window regulator clips: amzn.to/2CTWgxi

This drivers side window was completely unattached to the regulator and was simply floating in the door. My brother was raising and lowering the window manually prior to this repair.
With power windows there are quite a few things that can potentially go wrong, the window regulator glides are simply one simple repair that one can perform.
Don't forget to spray the glide rails down with silicone lubricant, and ensure that the regulator joints are fully inserted into the plastic glides.

like your videos too am also working on my 98 328is right now I'm fighting the power steering leak and fixing to replace the hoses, the bottle that holds the power steering and change the fluid since it was almost black, then I will be tackiling the vaccum leaks with my diy smoke machine so I appreciate you doing work for your brother these old cars are alot of work

If you replace the really long metal line that attaches to the rubber line you could consider breaking the crimp and using a regular hose clamp. It will work with the low pressure side. Yeah they definitely can require more work than the average vehicle, I like to pack three or four fixes once a month.

E36 Fanatics high pressure side is the one from the pump to the black tank right, and the power steering rack is what I assume your talking about yeah there's a hose to it from the black power steering tank

Yes pump to reservoir, the short line. The one that I put a hose clamp on is the expensive low pressure line, because you have to buy the entire metal line not just the hose.

Great video man. How do you separate the glass from the regulator and door? I just need to replace a driver's front sedan window found a spare door just need the glass out of it

Can you let me know how to align the window or reset it as you mentioned in this video? My window is slightly out of line. When I push the button, it will go down half way and then just go back up by itself. I've been told this is because of the window being out alignment?

The rear clip guide on the window itself keeps falling off whenever I move the window up, on top of an issue where the front of the window gets stuck on the front Window regulator track. Anyway I can fix the window clip guide?

Great video I'm fighting a issue with catalytic efficiency code I have changed the cat twice first one with the eastern brand and my second current one a magnaflow cat I have a 1997 318i do you know if our cars are sensitive to a specific brand ? or what causes this code

Did you replace the 02 sensors first? OEM Cats on these cars are extremely expensive if I recall, once these vehicles hit around 100xxx they start throwing bad 02 codes like clockwork.

E36 Fanatics Bro that the thing I changed all the 02 sensors with oem Bosch . running new Tps sensor,Camshaft. sensor ,Maf sensor . I also running Cold Air Intake set up spark plug and wires have been changed too. I scanned with a C310 Scanner the code said Catalytic Conversion On and Additive Mixture adaptation (Idle control limit reached. I don't know what it means

if i hold the button to push my passenger window up it will roll up for like a sec then roll down little bit. I also had this issue too I was going in reverse and something hit my driver's door and made my window fall down to the door and the clips just broke so as of now my window does not work n I need to buy could and that spray to make it hold up

Have you pulled the panel? Take a look at the teeth on the regulator and the motor. On the regulator I worked on after this the teeth had become slightly misaligned and the motor and regulator would freeze after going up a bit.

E36 Fanatics yeah I pulled panel, I've got the window up manually to avoid rain but the window was not aligned with the rail so it was out of it's place so we realligned it now only one window regulator clip is in their the other other is missing so Im gonna have to order it and buy that silicone spray and try popping it in, teeth I will have to check but I think it's that bushing you mentioned in a earlier video

I would pop the regulator glide back in, make sure you put the clip in as well. Then I'd spray down the metal side rail and the glide rails, and test it after that. You might have to reset the window afterwards.

E36 Fanatics to reallign the teeth with the window do I have to manually move the teeth for it to be aligned to work with the window because I don't know if mine are my window is just up manually and not sure if their in same position. also do you have any recommendations for which inner and outer tie rod assembly works for you? when I turn the wheel I can hear clacking so I figured since previous owner didn't do anything I might as well replace drivers and passenger side. after this I need to get another vanos system mine is like ticking on cold starts because I ran a oil too light. 0w-40 in Texas

If its misaligned you will probably have to pull the regulator and motor assembly off the door. I simply pulled mine off, replaced the bushing, greased it up and reattached it. I typically just get the stock tie rods that are available at the auto parts store, when it comes to suspension I go with urethane bushings now.

Man I wish there was an easy way to explain and do it, but if your referring to aligning it on the sides, its a pain in the a@@. Every time I do it I have someone help hold it while I curse and align it.

what does need to be aligned? Bolts or what? I can't get the window into the guides, yes. I got a 1992 sedan, driver's window.

i can only get the window to one guide (the front one (towards the front of the car) or rear) at a time.

spookas my car seems to have only 1 clip per window, rails on both sides. Is that normal or should there be 2 clips per window? Sedan body style.

Bamidele Emmanuel yes u can roll down window so u can get to the sliders there is metel clips that hold it in slid the clips out an pull on the bar an slid ur sliders out it’s simple
