Those V8 X5s are high maintenance too. If the M5 has service history, and has been properly maintained, I'll vote the M5 all day. It's imperative that it has been well kept though.

A clean, well-taken-care-of E46 3 series would be a good start.

E46/e39 are great but wired more than a mobsters phone, e36/e34 are easier, but are usually just in bad condition. If I were you I’d find a good taken care of e36 4 cyl.

The majority of videos of cars other than E39s are submitted by viewers who wanted to create content. None of the crew in Hudson have E60s. Hell, Ryan is the only one with anything other than an E39.

The front of this car has been repainted before, but it has many stone chips on it again. Such is life. The windshield is in good shape though.

I thought intercoler was expansion of cooling radiator, but i watched video on youtube that its expansion for turbine air....seems like only dizels use turbines anyway....since u never talk about diesel e39 u should talk about 530d.

The United States did not receive E39 diesel models. Therefore, I know next to noting about them. I can say that the M5 has an oil/coolant heat exchanger down the valley (V) of the engine. The diesels were in inline 6 engines, and I have no idea if such a device was used. I'm sorry I can't be of further assistance!

Removing the resonator will cause drone. Up to you if you want a bit louder sound but with the drone.

Drone is a constant bass like noise at certain RPMs (usually around the 2,000RPM that the engine would be at on the highway). I find it VERY annoying, and would wish to avoid at all costs. A muffler delete while not touching the resonator on the 540i is more than loud of enough for most people.

I have a 2001 540i in 6 speed with straight pipe from the cat back with a magnaflow resonator and muffler delete. Sounds amazing with no drone at all city and hwy driving.

its definitely a known issue with these cars. tight oil clearance from factory.. i have my car for sale with only 83,000 miles and people are asking for receipts for rod bearings already..

+AL B Oh yes, I am very aware of that. But at 83,000 miles I'd say you're not even half through them yet.

Haha, that was my first thought as well! I'm seeing just a little bit of seepage at the front of my 530i's oil pan, and I dread having to replace it. I'm probably going to pick up a baffled oil pan from VAC for it, though.

computiNATEor My engine mount snapped off, caused the oil pan to rub against the steering rack causing both the steering rack to seize and the oilpan to crack. I replaced the steering rack and that job was a pain. I gotta do the oilpan too, but since i plan on turboing it i won't remove the pan until it's time for turbo! It doesnt leak, just gets moist with oil over time. I can live with it for now :)

+computiNATEor when I replaced my 530i oil pan gasket, I dropped the entire front subframe. it took about 4 hours

tenaciousj95 Yeah, that's a simple process in theory, but it's a lot of work if you don't have a lift. I'd also like to replace the sway bar if/when I get to that point.

+E39Source Belive me its much nicer to work on cars if you have a lift ;) In the US you can get quality car lifts for close to no money, compares to Europe.
