About to do this job myself - watching every video I can find on the subject😁 Already done the CCV and filter housing gasket and valve cover gasket, so this should be easy. SHOULD...
Golden info, I can now go do mine, I suspect no ones ever done mine at 190k. Engine is super tight and strong still so will be showing it this kind of love soon. Thanks Nathan!!!
I have a 1999 M54 M52tu Double Vano from a 328i in my 2003 325i .. with the donor 5 speed transmission.. I will be doing this job .. between you and that 50's kid I look forward to doing this job with confidence..
Just did this today! I even jabbed the pick into my finger when removing the tiny seals on the caps. Thanks for your detailed video, I was able to complete this job and the engine already seems to be running much better at lower RPMs
Great instructions! Easy to follow. Excellent camera work and audio so we can see every nuance. What does a rebuild save compared to buying a new vanos?
A brand new one from BMW is quoted at $650-$750, aftermarket rebuilt ones are around $500, and the rebuild costs (assuming using a good quality rebuild kit) are only $100-150, toss in a new valve cover gasket for another $20 and the savings are pretty significant
I have a question Nathan. Is there anything wrong with using a scotch bright disk on like a air or battery powered tool to clean these peace’s up after you get the rings off of them or put them in a mineral spirits bath before you put them back together? Just curious man that’s all
Any tips for e39 headlights? I have 2001 540i "m-sport" and my headlights are looking pretty crappy. I also have the broken adjusters. I did buy new adjustors a few years back but, don't have the confidence to bake these open repair them, release and then polish the lens. I've seen some online for sale but they want close to $1,000 for the set. Any ideas or tips?
Hi , I did rebuild the vano on my E39 same engine like in your video... while the vano unit was removed I used a spanner and turned the crank a few turns...to many maybe 🤔, and the right spindle gear came out🥺, I have managed to put it back .... should I be worried before refitting the vano unit? Thank you
i just realized that i assembled the vanos into the engine without a sealer betwen the head and the vanos cover ( the one you put on 22:00 ) it didn't have one before i removed the cover so i thought they don't put sealer there ( the engine was running for years without leaks i only removed the cover because i did a hg job ) should i remove it back and put a sealer ?
Just found your channel, I like it, first vid and subscribed and thumbs up. I'm a ret Capt, Paramedic from the fire department out here in NC, and a mechanic of 33 years, I just work on my own cars now, mainly domestic, and some Japanese of the foreign market, my only experience with a BMW is the 2001 750iL my mother used to own. The last year I believe when they boxy. I found it easy to change oil and general maintenance it never had any major issues it just became too big of a car for her. But I'm always learning and enjoy good quality mech channels. I also use the thumbs up as a book marker. I plan to do some binge watching to catch up. Thank you Sir.
When you use Loctite, how will you ever take it apart again? It's a BMW engine, it will need to be taken apart again at some point. Seems counterproductive to glue it together.
How good is the 6 cylinder turbo engine in the F10? The n55 engine is what I’m talking about Nathan please? Not talking about the M series just the regular 5 series?
