I really think that BMW missed out by not continuing development of the S62. It's not like the E46 M3, where BMW feels they reached the limit of what an NA I6 can do. The S62 was a mere 4.9L, I think an E60 with a 6L+ V8 would have made a killer E39 M5 replacement. The V10 is nice and all, but it just doesn't have the bottom end power like the V8 powerplants do. I think a 6.3/6.4L V8 with ITB's, Dual Vanos, Valvetronic, ETC, would have been amazing. A person can dream though.
I used to have this car I liked it better than Ferrari California. First class head rest all wheel drive I did 50-60 on each corner drifts were loud outside and quiet inside it didn’t even feel like a drift. Just felt like the perfect drive.
Excellent review! You gave a good overview of what the car is like to own, given it's age and everything. I like the idea of owning a V8, doesn't have to be fast even, but an automatic gearbox that is not 8HP is such a letdown :( I wish you could get a manual one of these for 5k
Thank you! :) Gearbox is not great, but it's good enough - smooth, relaxing and responsive for most of the time. The value of this car is increasing. Good example will cost more than 10k, atleast in Europe.
@@carguy0446 The market ain't a fool, and money is losing it's value, therefore capital, things, cars, houses that are actually worth it, don't lose their value, but go up in price, i.e. appreciate. Agreed that a fine specimen will cost more than 10k. Most likely prices will continue to grow for these models, they ain't making V8's over here in Europe anymore :(
the 6hp26 in this and the 335i are not a letdown. if serviced properly and xhp tuned they will shift as fast as a zf8hp and hold just the same in power.
Funny how you get some armchair experts arguing whether or not you have the M-sport package. Also interesting to hear the manual 550i isn't common in Europe or is wildly expensive. It seems Europeans buy cars with manuals on all the smaller engine models but opt for auto V8s. I'd wager to guess the people(or person) saying this isn't an M-sport isn't himself a driver/owner. BMW's sport packages vary widely, from Year to Year and Pre/Post LCI. I've seen people do the same with E39 540i's that are genuine Sports package vehicles, some have chrome trim, some have a one/two year only tire/wheel combination, but they all have upgraded Wheels and Sports suspension. But it's cool, when you're telling the truth your VIN will always back you up!
I have a 07 550 6spd. I'll die b4 I ever give it up. Im in about 45k after purchase price 6 years ago. Few things here n there, then a 8k accident repair, valve stems, tires, cooling system, alt, n a few other things but I'd do it all over again. Nothing beats this as my daily. It's perfect. Just right enough of everything. Plus it's 50/50 weight distribution whats not to love. Mods are super expensive though. Only mods worth doing are headers and exhaust n a supercharger kit but y? Just buy a e60 M5 u doing all that. I'm going to do headers and infotainment upgrade and a mild exhaust. All that is about another 6k. Plus or minus here and there. Likely more knowing the car. Anyway its worth it. Shifter kinda video gamey (kinda numb) but still good enough. Get a short shifter if it's that bad for u. Anyway I'm not sure why I said all this but yea, great car. Find a manual n never let her go
Hello! It's nice to hear thoughts from another e60 enthusiast! I love my car, even with automatic gearbox, it's more relaxing as daily. It's impossible to get good manual e60 550i in europe and if in luck, it will cost a fortune. Thanks for your comment!, and keep it up! :)
@@mostafaabbas6 Sure thing! :) Factory claimed - 15,9l city, 7,8l highway and 10,8l combined. In real life conditions (from my experience) it's really close to factory results. Offcourse that's not great, but it's nor terrible and puts smile on your face! :)
No shifters. It's regular automatic gearbox. Shifters are on facelift models with sports automatic gearbox and SMG. SMG is unreliable and expensive to run.
@@carguy0446I have a 2007 550i smg transmission it works fine and fun to drive, don’t underestimate it. It is jerky but because it’s a manual it needs gas . 200k running strong 💪🏼
Lol this setup is literally garbage, do a cowl delete filters, engine cover delete, stock airbox delete, short ram high flow intake for v8 NA engine, headers on both sides ( decent cost to this for sure), new coils new plugs, new gaskets all around, new vacuum lines if it has them. Thank me later
Refresh both valve cover gaskets and potentially new covers if plastic , dont know this engine. If metal new gaskets only. New Throttle body gasket and Intake manifold seals 100% for sure. First thing when buying delete factory airbox, plugs coils , gaskets around , check if vacuum lines , if there are vac lines delete all with thick wall silicon high temp lines. Headers tune intake forsure
@@differentvibes8200 That's where you are wrong. Rims are from standard e60, because i don't drive with originals in winter, side skirts and front bumper are from Mpackage too (even according to VIN code). This package is original from factory. This is europe versiom if you are form US. I have driven BMW,s all my life and i don't lie about this stuff.
@COF The CFO True! There are several factors. This is original Msport from factory. Shifters come only when it's equipped with sports gearbox in facelift models.
