Just wanted to add how exceptional your recent films have become, both the production quality, and the concise instructions, I doubt a professional crew could have improved on it. Yea, a week after watching I got in with the job of switching out my failed nearside rear sensor, thankfully the ring on the driveshaft was not needing replacing. Again, sterling work sir, thanks.

Hi David, thanks for your kind comments - makes it worth putting the videos together when reading feedback like that 👍 Every video is a learning curve especially when being the producer, host, editor & film crew 😂 the increase in subscribers shows the channel is moving in the direction with plenty of cool stuff planned this summer but unfortunately Covid-19 is causing havoc on 2020 so far ☹️

[Updated] Just wanted to share this info for anyone interested: E92 M3 owner here. I am actually in the middle of trying different suspension options. The car is a non-EDC, non-Comp version. With stock suspension it was nice and firm, without being bumpy or crashy. I then installed these exact Eibach springs with new stock bump stops. Unfortunately, the ride is okay with smooth asphalt, but the cars is harsh and crashy on bad roads and tends to bottom out often. I have ordered the E36 M3 bump stops to see how the car will react with them and will install them in the next two weeks. @Mr. Stone: the idea behind the shaved/shorter bumps stops is clear to you. Just to explain the shaved top mount part: the intention is only to shave the lower/narrow part of the top mount rubber which does increase damper travel (think about it for a sec). My issue at the moment is that the shocks apparently do not have enough travel and start riding the bump stops quickly OR they have started to wear out (car has 100K km). With the shorter bump stops this will happen even sooner. [Update]: installed the E36 M3 bump stops upfront, shortened the rears by 18mm. Result: car rides better and absorbs the bumps approx. 10-20% better. Turned out the rear shocks are bad. Will replace them immediately. Conclusion: run the Eibachs with the E36 M3/shorter bump stops. Shaving the top mounts is optional.

Thanks for clarifying the shaved mounts/bumpstop debate. Like you, I couldn’t see any professional recommendation to change the standard setup. Having my H&R’s fitted when I can 😁

@@stoneautomotive Great video and information in the video! I am about to do H&R springs on my comp e90. I have been reading quite a bit about the shaved mounts as i was surprised about all the fuzz regarding them. Seems to make sense though. As you shave only the middle part the pre load will be a bit tighter which is good for short springs, like you mentioned in the video. However the main problem it should help is move the bump stop closer to the top of the spring providing more compression travel. A shorter bump stop will do the same and thus shaving the top hat 8ish millimeter together with E36 bumpstops (8ish mm shorter) should give you about OEM compression/bump travel (while removing some rebound travel out). Have you experienced any problems riding the bump stops on rough roads, bumps or while hard cornering?

@@johmei glad you enjoyed 👍 There’s a shim washer that stops any improvement in clearance from shaving the top mounts - if it was required H&R, Eibach & KW would advise it is required, One company in America does it for there custom springs and now everyone’s doing it 😅 No issues at all, I may be going KW sleeve kit in the future as I will be fitting the M4 hubs/ brakes which increases the ride height
@johmei
@johmei 2 года назад
@@stoneautomotive oh the washer should move closer to the top as well, if you reinstall it at all, after shaving as the top hat will effectivly be thinner after shaving. Now I am just continuing this odd debate started by this american tuning company, sorry. Anyways, glad to hear riding bump stops has not been an issue for you. I had this issue on my E92 335 on H&R springs allthough I went with the E36 bump stops. But that lowered a lot more and shocks were not up for what I wanted to do with the car so hope I will be happier with them springs on the M3.

When I changed out the front strut mounts on my E46 M3, the mount had already effectively been shaved by being pounded upwards over time. They were 1cm further up in the mount.

I’ve got an Edition, so it has the Comp pack springs, and I’d been happy with the ride height until I got some new wheels and now I’m looking at the Eibachs to just give me that little bit of extra drop 😄 I’m glad to hear that they don’t ruin the the ride as I use my M3 daily as well and I’d hate to spoil how it feels out on the road. Interesting to hear your thoughts about the top mounts, sounds like there’s actually no need for them. Can I ask how much you cut off the bump stops? It sounds like that’s the only thing really needed. Did you just use a knife to cut down them? Thanks 🙂
@stoneautomotive
@stoneautomotive 4 года назад
Hi, Certainly very happy with the ride comfort/ height of the Eibach springs, I would have potentially liked a smidge more on the front but decided the H&R’s for daily use could be crashy so leaving it on the Eibach springs for now 👍 You can cut the standard bump stops down with a small hack saw - very easy to do (from memory it was 10mm but I show the measurements of the e36 ones in the video for reference 👌)

@@MrPTManning I didn’t in the end. I decided it wasn’t worth the expense for another 5-10mm. I’ve now added carbon side blades, so car wouldn’t get on my drive if it was any lower, so they’re not an option for me now 😅

It's to give the struts more travel so you don't bottom out. And it does make a difference
@stoneautomotive
@stoneautomotive 4 года назад
Hi Mike, I understand why people do it but it doesn’t increase the damper rod length/ travel that’s why I don’t see the benefit on the stock damper? 100% agree shorter bump stops allow for more travel & to prevent bottoming out under normal conditions but shaving the top mount will simply increase spring compression? Not looking for a debate just looking for the answer as I can’t see how shaved top mounts increase travel at all.

Another great video. Like you I have seen many people say you need to shave the top mounts but looking at it I dont see how it would provide nay more damper travel. Been a while since you made the video so interested to know if you have had any issues with bottoming out since? Also have you got any more info about the mod to seat runners you mention you have planned at the end of the video? Currently in the process of fitting the M4 seats to mine and would like to do it before installing them if possible.

@@stoneautomotive thanks for the reply. Will give the shaved top mounts a miss then and just trim the bump stops. Im looking to use the H&R sport springs as want a slightly bigger drop at the front and as car is not a daily driver I'm willing to sacrifice abit more of the ride comfort. And cheers for the link to the seat mod you have done. I will see what what seating position is like with m4 seats installed but good to know what to do if I want to go lower still.

There’s no guidance from Eibach to modify/ change them but due to the height drop cutting down the originals makes sense to match the e36 M3 bump stop height that so many swear need to be done.

@stoneautomotive
@stoneautomotive 3 года назад
Wrong, he doesn’t put the spacer back in between the top mount & the damper rod in his description 🤷‍♂️ This is what I having been saying all along that it’s pointless.. 100% agree with the shorter bump stops and this is actually something KW support with the HAS kit as they include a shorter one. If you look in my video that spacer/ shim will stop any benefit of the shaved top mount as you can not increase the damper rod travel any further

@stoneautomotive

I wouldn’t say it was a waste of money for the eibachs, firmer & just under a 10mm drop once settled so for me they were worth using as I could keep the EDC system 👍 Agree if your looking for a serious drop it will be H&R springs or the KW HAS kit but just didn’t want a crash ride as I use my e92 daily
