In this tutorial I am demonstrating how to replace your old brake pads on the BMW G650GS (2012-2017).
This is a straightforward process which you can easily do yourself by following the BMW approved Maintenance Manual.
This was my first time changing the brake pads on any motorcycle. It is a good way to learn your equipment and at the same time save in your maintenance costs (if done properly).
I do not take responsibility for inaccuracies presented in this video.
This video is for entertainment only.

I am happy that you found this video useful. In the next service of my BMW G650GS (20,000 km), I will demonstrate a valve clearance check and adjustment (if it will be required) by a none mechanic (me). Thanks for watching and for the great feedback.

@@davidlogasi1835 I actually just had my 20,000 km service done recently, so it'll be cool to see how you do it yourself. One thing I was slow to notice after my service was that my rear brake pedal now doesn't start to brake until pressed much further down than previously (I guess they changed the brake pads and oil). Any pointers in how to adjust that?

@jimpannell2035 I could only imagine that the cause of your motorcycle's 'spongy' rear brake could be due to air in the system. You can easily bleed the brakes yourself, and there are a lot of great tutorials on RU-vid of how to do it, but you can also go back to the workshop/mechanic that serviced your motorcycle to do it for you, as I believe that the work on your motorcycle should be under some sort of guarantee. Just out of curiosity, did you have to adjust the valve clearance at 20,000 km service?

@@davidlogasi1835 Just dug out the invoice and they have charged for adjusting the valve clearance, so it seems they did do something.

Great video; thanks. What is the purpose of removing the calipers by removing the two screws? Is it just to get the space to push the pistons in? If I’m going to remove the wheels for tire replacement, I’m wondering if I will still need to remove the calipers.

I replaced mine today and one of the 2 piston has a hole its cracked. I thought the piston were holow and only the perimeter was pushing against the pads

isn't the torque for the calliper screws 28 ft lb? which in Nm would be 38? I wentwith 40 Nm (1 below your recommndation) and it felt way too tight.

Hi Andre, Thanks for your comment. The torque setting was taken from the BMW service manual. Therefore, that was the setting that was used. My recommendation is to always follow your specific motorcycle service manual.

Hi Hein, Thank you for watching. I am using the Motorcycle Wireless Qi/ QC3.0 USB Phone Holder Charger Handlebar. It works really well and is easy to install. Hello Are you using Metzeler Karoo Street tubeless tires on spoked wheels with tubes? Is it safe?

Hello Alex Thanks for watching the video. The Metzeler Karoo Street can be installed with tubes on a spoke wheel without any issues and works well on this motorcycle.
