On my GT the wires were not long enough to remove the grip from the bar. The workshop manual instructs to remove several body panels to get to the harness and free it up. I didn't want to do that so decided to remove the bar from the upright, which you could not get off. I got it off by putting a long 10mm bolt in place of the bolt that retains it (screwed into the end of the round bar), then hammering on it to push it out of the rubber mount. It's tight but not hard to get it out that way, just be sure to have a long enough bolt, the one I used was 70mm, that's as short as will work. I was then able to slide the bar out of the grip and switch. Re-installing the bar was the reverse, but I hammered directly on the bar end. Getting the bar in the correct position is important, and you won't be perfect, so use a pair of vice grips on the bar end to allow you to twist it. I repaired the switch, the horn button wasn't working but deoxit worked to get it back, I'll have to do a video on that.
Hey bud. Hope you enjoying your GTL. I just got myself a GT and I love that smooth inline 6. It is beyond me why someone would spray a cheap ass paint on such a nice machined finish of the original handlebar. I hope you managed to get it back to the original finish. safe riding meneer
