very certainly the wind was the cause for the "low" consumption uphill and the "high" cunsumption downhill. my i3 is also super prone to head- or tailwind. But i think this was quite realistic Range for the weather. Good job Bjørn ;)

Usually when the adaptive cruise shuts down like that it's because of moisture on the windscreen at the camera, start the rear window defroster to remove it (it activates defroster for camera as well).

I like the bokeh effect when you’re shooting yourself. Especially when you were at the charger back in Oslo at the end. Background lights - beautiful! Seems like you’re using the new camera. It looks good 👌🏼

Hi Björn. Thanks for some nice videos, keep up the good work :-) A little knowledge from my happy experience of our 2 i3’s (one for wifey and one for me - both pre owned), which might be helpful: If you are using other than comfort mode, the heater element around the camera is disabled and only activates when windscreen defrost is turned on. In comfort mode it’s automatically controlled and gets information among other things from temperature and humidity. As the car gets older you might also get problems caused by the windscreen getting dirty on the inside in front of the camera causing the “low sun shutdown”, but that’s not likely on a new car like this. Regarding AC charging, the 22 kwh (60 ah) had one phase 32 A charger= 7.4 kwh max and the newer (think from 33 kw/ 94 ah onwards) has 3 phase 16 amps each, giving 11 kwh total, which is more suitable for a standard household installation. When you preheat, the heater can draw up till 5kw and as 1 phase 16 A only will deliver 3.7 kwh the heater will consume the rest from the car battery, prioritizing comfort vs range as you rightly noticed. Talking about preheat, it’s possible also to precondition the battery, but the car needs at least 3 hrs using a 1 kw heater cycling on and off in order for the heat to transfer throughout the battery pack. You can do this by scheduling a departure time in advance.

I3 can charge 32A on 230V (7,4kW) and 16A on 400V (TN net) at 11kW. At 230V IT 3 phase net only one phase will be used. Load balancing, losses and pre-heating can reduce the charging power.

I personally I would not buy a BMW I3 because the distance between charging is too great in my Country and the range would not cut it. But nice car all around.

Total Consumption was 172 for the i3 vs 180 for the MX-30 but percent needed was much higher for the MX-30. I am guessing percent needed would be much closer if both cars had the same size battery.

I see on the other hand the glass half full: how amazing is that a 2014 with no major upgrades, can stand this test with 2019-20 cars. As Bjorn said, what’s important IMHO is that the i3 can do this test!

No, you're mixing it up with the 22 kWh i3 from 2014. This is 42 kWh i3 from 2019.

Yes it has its similarities for sure but the Geilo trip is for most people, the most realistic way of getting info on how a car is in real life. So though it is similar to the E-Niro I think you should test it and be on your list. There might on the updated Kona, be more differences than before in consumption and tech. Stay safe and healthy👍

Need some help with the electrifeid app. the fields SOH anda SOH HV correspond to what? in my 2013 i3 REX 60ah shows 78% SOC and 76% SOH HV when the car is fully charged . in the CAPACITY shows about 48Ah... thx

SOH [%] is the usable battery after degration. This means that your battery management system has decided, that only 76 % of your battery can be used, the rest has been blocked for battery health reasons.

@@abraxastulammo9940 Sort of: "BMW iX Specs. BMW says that the iX will be equipped with a battery pack with “a gross energy content of more than 100 kWh”. About 100kWh is a good number and needed, because the Model Y from Berlin with 4680 battery will have above 82kWh and is way more efficient. So it is logical that it will be 100kWh, or above.

@@abraxastulammo9940 I think it has 100kWh net and 100kWh gross capacity. And BMW is way to optimistic about the numbers, as usual. It will be extremely inefficient with that grill. But its just me, we have to wait and see. And drink earl grey till then.

With the i3 it seems you need to clear out error messages before you can try again. At least that's my experience with the far from perfect adaptive cruise control.

@@bjornnyland Then press ctrl + alt + delete i guess... Or get a better car. Honestly BMW fucked up their lead in the EV market. To me the i3 works very well, but I doubt I'll get another BMW...

@Bjørn Nyland The camera based cruisecontrol is far from perfect. If it starts getting error messages and disables in cold rainy weather, it might be helpful to activate the back windscreen heater. This button also activate a small heat element in the camera housing, and that remove moist that might disturb the camera vision.
