Nick, you're the Michael Jackson of car video guys. You always post good videos and i always watch them more than once. Btw you never talked about this in your video, but between the 911 and m4 which one gets more recognition (thumbs up, compliments, head turning etc...) ?
Good question. Because the M4 is a new model and the color stands out I get a lot of comments, people filming me and taking photos every day. Someone almost had an accident this morning on i95 trying to film my car. That will die down in a few months I think where as people always look at the the 911 regardless but are less likely to say anything to you. I think people are more relaxed about talking to a BMW person than a Porsche person. The 911 gets more under cover attention.
Nick Murray Thanks for the reply Nick. I love both of them. I do however always wanted a black 911 carrera s cabriolet with clear glass tail lights. After i sell my mercedes s550 I might pick one up. Fingers crossed I wont run into many problems with it if i get one :)
Shehryar Ehtesham I very much doubt you will have any problems, they are solid, my issues really seemed to be a one off bad fix and snow balled from there.
What a great review. You completely put the professional car channels to shame. It was really nice to watch because of all the effort you put into this.
I can't believe you're thrashing your new car around like that. Other videos they're using demo cars, no one uses their own car to run such tests. For that you earn the 'Balls of Titanium Alloy' award. Respect...
After listening to all the comments on the M4 up to the 16 min mark it was a real treat to hear "I still have a preference for the 911." Then I noticed Nick's comment below that "I enjoyed owning the 911 more than I am enjoying the M4." Of course you did, Nick! It's a 911!
Very nice video, Nick ! Happy to hear you still prefer the 911 in certain areas even after those immense problems it caused you. Hope you'll have many more happy miles in the M4 until you eventually end up buying a 911 Turbo :)
GREAT REVIEW, I totally agree with the sound, I love the sound of the m4, the more I get used to it , the more I love it. I don't think the sound is synthesized in anyway its just fed to the speakers because the cabin is well insulated. n that is a weapon at 7:11 - 7:25
Omg Nick, thanks to this video, I went ahead and ordered this horse head in time for my kids' birthday party yesterday, and I'm in tears from laughter in looking at the pics of what we did with it. I'm so using him each week out in public. Everyone must get one! lol
I noticed the same problems with my 435i, I drive the same style each time (aggressive) so I want the same setting each time I start my car, but BMW doesn't allow that. The setting is economy mode, which means that the car turns itself off each time I take my foot off of the clutch, which is TERRIBLY annoying! BMW told me the same thing they told you, you will need to put the car into sports mode each time you start your car. It's horrible. In addition to being annoyed, I had my father drive my car, he wasn't impressed because the darn thing was automatically in boring-mode, maybe if BMW allowed me to set my car to boot into sport-mode each time they might have a new customer because my father 'might' have been impressed, but instead he felt it no better than a honda accord. Nick! Thank you for your videos, I have been mulling around with getting an M car or a 911, and your reviews have been the only content that has been helping with selecting which to buy. After having the 435i M-sport, I realize that I want more power, 4 doors, and a limited slip diff. 911=$120k and M3=$70k (with limited options), nearly half the price and still the BMW will beat in a straight line, haha.. the 911 looks so much better, but another 50,000 dollars..? phew. I wonder what your take is, if you had to choose only 1 car, would you still choose the 911?
You are very gracious with your dealer. It seems they don't know what the hell they are doing if a) they couldn't remember to enable the airbag before handing the car to you, and b) they couldn't understand what has to have been the simplest work order to check why the passenger vanity light "constantly" stays on. SMH!! Anyway, love your thorough ownership videos. If I was in the market for an M4, this is invaluable information.
Great video!!! Very well thought out and I loved the multiple camera angles. It's wonderful to see people who truly enjoy driving and feeling connected to the road. Thanks for being quick to praise and slow to judge with regard to issues with the car and the dealership, It's pleasantly refreshing.
I cant understand the haters, nick doesnt work for a tv channel or something, but his review was better than the reviews from most of the tv channels! He compared the m4 with the e92 m3, i own a e93 m3 and i'm thinking about buying a m4 too, so this review was perfect! I dont know what the haters expect from an owners review, but this video was great! Keep it up! :) (Sorry for my english, i live in germany)
So yeah, this video is rather awesome! Shooting with drones? sweet! I think you've stepped up your video production game nicely from when I first stumbled upon your channel during the Porsche debacle. Well done! And yes I LOVE BMW - I ended up going witha Subaru WRX back when we had our baby (I managed to convince my wife it was a family car :) instead of an M3, but have always secretly wanted to get an M3... one day when the kid is older maybe :)
Oh love your comment about the dealership and survey! Must be the most truthful sensible and objective comment I've heard on this topic! Good job and carry on!
Nick, a comment about your survey/dealer issue: I am not sure it's flawed mate. You mention that you don't win if you submit the survey and don't put 10s across the board, because "the dealer will hate you from that point on". Well, just like ratings on Amazon or eBay or on Zagat surveys...enough "problematic" submissions will force the business owners to step up to the plate by improving processes and service. If they don't, they'll continue to get dinged and eventually more and more people will go to their competitors...which YOU should do! You mentioned there are a few other BMWs in your area that aren't too far...so if you feel uncomfortable after submitting your survey, jump ship! It's not like your BMW free maintenance 4yrs / 50K miles is tied to any dealer!
Its great to hear about real owner issues vs the normal review that can't address the nagging repair items that can be associated with these complex electro-mechanical wonders. Very nice job on the nitpicky details that owners get to deal with and new buyers need to understand!
Fantastic video mate! The quality (both audio and video) are leagues ahead of most of what I see here. Thanks also for the in depth content. I enjoyed it from start to finish.
Wow! You are really improving with the production of your videos, not that they were shabby before! I loved it! Tons of useful information that was useful to me. You have a faithful subscriber!
Just subscribed after reading this guy answer comments. Even if someone calls him an idiot in the comments, he just shrugs it off and goes, oh, I don't feel the same way. Great personality and great video. And I great selection of cars!
Great video! I was hesitant to watch this video all the way through since it's almost 30 minutes but I'm glad I did. I enjoyed how you took your viewers through your experience with the car and the dealership process.
Fantastic review Nick. I dont know when it happened but I drank the Porsche Kool-aid...it was very painful to see you have all the issues with the 911, but none the less your review of the M4 has me warming up to the car. Your detail and tremendous effort in each video is much appreciated. Enjoy your Kiwi fruit ! Best.
Nick: Thank you so much for your videos, I have Ben following you for a couple of months now and inhale really enjoyed your reviews. Loved your M3 video, liked it so much that owning a BMW is now on my bucket list
That's one awesome car dude! I work for a BMW-dealer in Holland and love your car. Truely a dream car! Also like your sense of humor :) Enjoy your fantastic ride man!
Hats off to Nick - this is a nicely personal, yet informative review of a very aspirational car. The professionalism of the production is also mighty impressive. For anyone looking to spend 60k (as it is in the UK) - this sort of in-depth owner review is extremely useful and offers a real world view of buying and owning such a car. Keep up the great work, and look forward to the next installment. J
Love your videos and I too am torn between M-cars and 911's. At the moment I have an '83 911sc, '02 M3 (E46) and '06 M5 (E60). Your video is almost tipping me over the edge to replace my E46 M3 but I love my current M cars so much I can't imagine parting with either of them - the engines in both are so sweet. I'll keep watching your videos and see what happens! Keep up the great work !
Amazing video as always Nick. It's awesome to see what kind of impression this car makes on a ''regular Joe'', instead of the car reviewers. You go in such detail every time and I love watching your videos. Keep up the good work!
Hi mate, The interior light would drive me nuts. With both the Porsche and bmw I'm amazed at the poor quality control. I'm a Sydney based builder and my project get scrutinised by me and the customer until all items are dealt with. Normally all items, if any, are fixed before a client is invited to comment. Why can't people take pride in there work? Have a fantastic day and enjoy your drive. Mannie. Syd Aus. Ps love the videos.
Hey Nick, great video! I always appreciate a review from the owners perspective. I find it gives a much better idea of what a car is like to live with on a day to basis. I also love the little "easter eggs" with the gorilla and the horses head. Keep up the good work!
Hey Nick! Great car (love the color) and great reviews. A big like to all three of your M4. Great to see that our Bavarian driving machines are much loved in the US as well. Funny thing is that the US price is $65,000. In Germany the M4 currently starts with €72,200. One comment to the steering wheel buttons: First I thought the same when I heard from your wish to switch the buttons for volume and track selection. But thinking about the functionality I think BMW made it right. Changing the functionality would only allow you to go one track further or back but not to switch through tracks and choose a specific one, right? This only can be done by using the scroll and push wheel. So even if it looks a bit weird at the beginning there seems to be some sense behind it. Had the same concerns on my 5series but here I additionally can switch through contacts, tracks or radio stations by using the wheel. BTW keep on pushing for new reviews of your M4...
Really love the way your channel is going. I must say the aerial drone shots were very well implemented. You've definitely been stepping up the production value. I also can't find a reason for why people knock the engine sound/exhaust note. To me it sounds very nice. I mean sure it doesn't compare to a screaming V8 like in the Jag F-type R but it sounds nice and distinguished. I wish all the very best for your ownership with the car and I will be staying tuned for things to come.
Really enjoy your videos. Thanks for not using a headmounted/POV camera in this one. Managed to watch the whole video without throwing up once *thumbs up
In this video you mentioned you got rid of your 991, what happened? Did you stomach a huge loss and sell it to some poor soul or did Porsche finally cave and give you the customer service you deserve?
seeing how sweet the m4 is, im starting to regret getting the 428 convertible, even though the convertible its nice during the summer, it seems really amazing to drive with all that power.
look at that cute french bulldoggy :) what a sweet dreaming looking doggy on M4. i think your dog already showed us the comfortness of M4. thanks for a good vid!
nick, on your comments on the steering wheel buttons, i think the reason they did that is, with the thumbwheel to change stations you can scroll through the stations and see them without actually changing to it. as you know. i like it actually, you just thumb the wheel until you see the station you want then press down to select it... also, someone might not necessarily want to hear every station as their changing through them.
Great video as usual. This is my dream car and it is what brought me to your channel. I hope you make some more videos on your M4 because I find them very interesting and entertaining. Keep up the good work.
Fantastic job, Nick! Very well done. I'm so jealous that you got to drive onto a disused airfield! I'd love to do the same at some point! Love your car as well, man. It's a beauty!
Oh my god. I've been waiting for this video with the same level of anticipation a child experiences the night before Christmas. Finally, I can open my presents. All hail Nick fucking Murray.
Dealerships can single-handedly ruin the vehicle ownership experience, so that being said, I suggest you notify BMW NA in order to make arrangements to send them the "e-mail correspondence." I can't believe the vanity light issue either. Incredible. In any case, I'm sure I'm not the only one waiting for you to dump the Bimmer and replace it with the 991 911 Turbo S so we can get your excellent impressions on the vehicle. Take care man.
Brilliant sports car, just fantastic. My dad is getting one exactly the same as yours just with different colour seats and the carbon extras. But other than that just fantastic
I know you have the new 911 now, but the default driving modes can be coded by plugging in a Bluetooth module, and code it on your iPhone. In case you’re still curious
Nick, I really like this review. Until Now i couldn't decide which to get, the M3 or M4. But thanks to this review, i think ill have to go with the M4. Great Job!
You could change how the default settings are with an ECU remap and probably get more power. This is something a BMW dealer won't do. It would also void the warranty. You would have to wait for the warranty to be over and get an aftermarket BMW place to do it for you
Nice car. I hope they add more colors soon. These dealers only care about sales. I used new country in hartford for my f30 and left specific instructions not to drill holes for the front license plates and of course the car came with holes drilled. However they seem to be the best rated BMW dealer in CT still from my research. The 911 is also sweet. Contemplating the M4 and 911 for my next ride but you cant beat the bang for buck on the M4 it seems.
I do not agree with you on the engine sound, but everyone have their own view on good sounds. Everything else you said for me is better than all those magazine wrote. Great work, and thank you for share it.
One thing that I don't like about german cars is that noting is included. Everything is an option. Porsche wants $1200 for Sirius satellite radio and HD radio, that kind of stuff comes standard even on Domestic cars under $30k. However, you're car is beautiful, the color really sets it off. Take care of it!
Nick I think I have figured out the park issue you were having. If you are M1 or M2 mode shifting manually, the car will go into neutral when you shut it off. If you throw it into Drive before you shut it off, it goes to Park. Not 100% sure but think that is correct.
I am impressed with the way you shoot and edit this video.. Outstandingly professional. I don't know what you do in real life but I think you should do a motor show or something. It's a shame though that you got rid of the amazing 911.
nice review nic. I had an e46 and am now on my 2nd e92 M3. after watching this I feel a lot more interested in buying the next generation m3 - . maybe there is a life after the E92 M3 !
Great video's Nick! I've ordered my M4, but it's been put off for months due to the ceramic brakes I think. It was originally scheduled for August, but I can't wait to get it, the build is scheduled for the 47th week now. Anyway, I have been on the fence about the exhaust sound, but this video put me at ease for sure. It sounded great in your video. Looking forward to more videos from you.
If you get a exhaust get the new GTHAUS exhaust for the F80/F82 M3/M4. The stock exhaust sound I love it so much it sounds so good. Idk why people don't like it. It's sounds so perfect!!!
Hey Nick - I really enjoyed watching this video. I followed your videos for the 911 reviews and issues as I am actively looking at that car. However, I've had a lot of BMW's (Currently 2012 X5) and was considering another sedan. The M4 wasn't out when I got my X5, so this video really helped with the drivers perspective. I think in the end, Im leaning more towards the 911 though as, like you consider it a more pure sports car. My commutes are short, so I dont think the sit time will be much of an issue. Thanks for the videos! Keep them coming.
Glockindahaus I personally find the 911 a much more special car than the M4, not that there is anything wrong with the M4 I just enjoyed owning a 911 a lot more.
Hey nick you said in the video you wanted to know how to save your preferable settings on the car. I think you have to put it in the settings you want ( manually) then you hold down either the m1 or m2 button until the car makes a sound telling you the settings have been saved in either the buttons depending on witch one you pressed. BTW huge fan!
Nick, always love your videos, always appreciate reviews of a car from an actual owner. I wasn't so sure about the F80 at the beginning, but it certainly grows on you after a while. Glad to hear you love the car as much as your 991. Coming from an E92, I have say you are a brave man for getting a first year BMW model with brand new drive train. So please keep us updated on any issues or modifications you might have with the car. Also finding a good dealer is critical, as The quality of BMW dealerships is much less consistent comparing to that of Porsche from my experience. Should take the car to a proper road track by the way. Bet you would love it even more. One last thing, which dash cam would you recommend?
Awesome video, Nick! What a treat these are! And the horse!!! I gotta try that. I'm guessing you're going to get the 991 turbo next. I'm already excited about its reviews. Thanks for sharing the enjoyment of your brilliant toys.
Good review again Nick, great to see one about the car and normal driving, not just "drifting" if you know what i mean? Would really be interested in a M235i comparison, think it was Autocar that said for the price difference (UK) it was not worth the difference. Here in Oz you can get 2 M235i's for the price of an M4! Cheers!
Hey, man...absolutely beautiful car! I found your channel via subaruwrxfan, and I want to pose the same question to you that I posed to him: I've had two Mustangs -- an '08 premium 6 and a '12 premium 6. I'm at a place where I'm able to jump to the new V8 premium. While the '15 is, in my opinion, the best looking car on the road -- period -- and has made incredible leaps and bounds in terms of interior niceness, fit and finish, etc., the V8, as I would build it, is in the same price range as a BMW 328i or just a little below a Mercedes C300, and on the surface, in spite of how nice the new 'stang is, it just seems insane to me to spend BMW or Mercedes money on a Mustang. As of right now, I'm really waffling between the 328i Sport and the Mustang GT Premium, and I've driven both. The Premium Mustang, 201A package, with the premier trim and color accent package, get you a lot of niceities -- such as padded tops of doors (this is my biggest pet peeve about the Mustang...it's good that they're finally putting more soft touch in these cars, but I'm of the opinion that when you're spending $40-42k on a car, there should be ZERO hard plastic. Even with the premier trim, the entire center console, except for the arm rest, the bottoms of the doors, and the entire back seat are hard plastic). On the flip side, EVERYTHING in the BMW is soft touch (as it should be, for that price point, IMO). Now, the BMW doesn't offer stitching until you get up to the 6 series / $100k range, while the Mustang does offer some stitching. In terms of the drive, the Mustang is greatly improved with the IRS, and I'm sure even more so with the Performance / Track Pack (which I haven't driven), but the BMW feels like it's built out of stone...or fashioned from a solid piece of metal. I've never driven a car as absolutely tight, with such absolute precision, inside and out, as the BMW -- it's truly remarkable. In terms of power, obviously the Mustang GT (even the EcoBoost) are leaps and bounds beyond the BMW, but that said, personally, the BMW 4-cyl twin turbo in sport mode FEELS faster than my current 305hp / 280 ft lb torque mustang, even though it is not...I'm sure this has to do with the 4-cyl developing max torque and hp way lower in the RPM band than a 6 or 8-cyl car, coupled with the 8 speed automatic transmission. I've never been able to afford the GT, until now, and I REALLY would love to have a 435hp beast of an engine, and inspite of the vast improvements in this new Mustang, I FEEL that it's still 'just a Mustang' in comparison to the 328i Sport... I know not many people cross-shop Mustangs and BMW's, lol...and there's a reason for that...they are very different cars! Both are great at what they do, but I just can't seem to wrap my head around $42k for a Mustang when you can get a BMW... So, again, just curious which one you would choose. In a perfect world, where you get the performance AND the build / engineering quality, that's where something like the M4 comes in...and, of course, that's what you've got :) So, you're rockin' the super primo Bimmer and it's a different ballgame than the Mustang or even 3 series cars. Thanks, man!
This is a very useful review. However, when it comes to knowledge... First of all, 174 mph is not really that great for that car. I drive BMW 335i Coupe M Sport, twin turbo (pre-facelift, when they replace the engine with a single turbo one) and I managed GPS indicates 280 km/h on a German motorway, which is 174.67 mph. I deliberately stopped accelerating, as I want to survive my tests. And the car would still go. I forgot to add that my engine was remapped (with the speed limiter removed) to around 380 PS and 560 Nm of torque. To put in the M4 perspective, the torque is similar. So, I am convinced that M4 will happily go nearer 200 mph. As for the engine, as soon as the potential of the N54 engine (in my car) was realized, it was replaced with a single turbo motor (similar output). The M4 now has S55 engine, which is briefly based on the first experience. It is a fantastic engine and 430 figure is conservative. When we dynoed the car before remapping, we got 335 bhp, instead of 300. I will only add that I am overtaking E92 M3's on track days in fourth - that's how much torque you get from a twin turbo(!!!) When I test drove 991 Carrera S, I wanted it so much to be a revelation that when the engine (normally aspirated 400 horses) appeared breathless, I hated it. Yes, it drives like a gocart, sounds great and, most probably is the best sports car in the world but... I was soooo disappointed with the engine that I am now sure that I will not bother with it until they get to speed with the rest of the world and throw in a turbo engine. And for that money (US cars are so much cheaper than in Europe...), the engine should have a bit more ompf. You have to get a couple of gears down to get anything out of it. Really disappointing. So, my choices... For the money, it seems that M4 is a brilliant option for my 335 M Sport, which still brings a wide grin on my face every time I press the loud pedal. And the sound? Not one BMW mechanic admitted that actually it sounds better than the M3's V8 - kind of more sofisticated... V8 instead of S55 engine? Nonsense! This engines can run circles around that bug heavy lump. That's what I call progress, or evolution...
Awesome video, Nick, your awesome! Could you put me in your comments section on your car videos, please? I love the colour of your M4, Love everything about your car, I am really looking forward to more videos! Thanks for everything, Nick. Nathan McConnell
Hey Nick, I was a little nervous about what you were going to say about the M4 vs the 991 (as I have only had mine for a month or so and did not want to regret my decision.) I agree with you completely in that the BMW is more comfortable as a daily driver but might be a little less sporty. I traded in my 2012 550Xi which was way more comfortable than my 991 and for the first week i thought i might have made a mistake. After the first week i have changed my mind (I still use my SUV for long trips though) but I love the way the 991 makes my short daily drive exciting. BTW, still love the 4S and think you should consider the all wheel drive on you next car which is the reason I did not consider the M4 or AMG. Great trailer BTW, love it, no music needed.
Temporary fix for the vanity light running the battery flat. Pop the cover off and remove the bulb pending the visit to the dealer to have it sorted for good.
Hey Nick! Love your videos. This has to be my favorite. Very complete and thorough. Have you had a chance to drive an of the larger M5 or M6 cars? Would love to hear what you have to say regarding those. As you stated, the M4 is definitely more of an Autobahn cruiser when compared to the sportier 991 911; could you perhaps compare something like the above mentioned M5 or M6 to your M4?
Hello Mr. Murray !I am from Romania and i love your videos !i am a big fan of ///M cars and of the new BMW M3/M4 series! This BMW M4 is a masterpiece !Now ... if you have the posibility to test drive the new Mercedes C63 AMG and tell as what's the diference between your M4 and C63 ! ( the new generation) Respect Mr. Murray ! You are grate!
Nick, love your reviews. I prefer your "real world" reviews to the professional journalists versions. Yours reflect the questions/concerns of an actual owner vs. someone who is paid to test a car for 1/2 an hour... and say something controversial afterwards. OK. One request: Can you please do a review of a Panamera S or the base model. I think it might combine the best of the M4 with the feel of a 991. Let me know please.
Awesome video man! Love the car btw! I plan on buying an E30 325is for my first car soon. :) then later on I want to pick up my dream car, an E46 M3! keep up the amazing videos!! and have fun with the M4 :)
i normally don't like long videos and i was thinking ok lets watch lil pit then leave it but that did not happen man you went tru all things that i really want to hear thank you your awesome
I've had a e46 and e92 M3 and just recently sold the e92. I'm torn on what to get next. I do like the new M4 but the color choices and horrible sounding exhaust are holding me back. For the same money I can get a 2010 911 turbo or just wait for the new M2 to come out.... Thanks for the great reviews on this
Im so glad you've got the white interior, plus could you make a review of the dash cam when you got the chance , i want one but got absolutely no idea what to look for in Those things
Nice car, and nice review dude ;) Btw i'm pretty sure that even in your video we cannot hear the real sound of the car, the sound part was just another M4's weird sound record...
