They don't start at the same time, it's just based on time alone. If you payed attention to the stats screen at the end you would know that.

Amazing... It is a more exact time: what the car can do from point A to B. But sometimes is cool to compare the time reaction and capabilities from the drivers.

The BMW crossed the line first, but the 458 crossed faster. It's no the same. They start with a small time difference for security reasons . Let's say I can run 10 meters in 12 seconds and you can run 10 meters in 14 seconds. If you start 3 seconds before me of course you will get there first but that doesn't mean you are faster.

It is not a drag race but separate simultaneous time trials. Reaction times are recorded but it's the cars performance that everyone's interested in. They want to know the cars time over 1 mile and the speed at the end of the mile. Very dissimilar vehicles may run simultaneously and the drivers may or may not know each other. Of course they are usually high performance cars and bikes. The owners want to know "what she will do". The owners may well know the car in the next lane will leave them for dead or if there car or bike will shit on them. Often the owners want to know how much faster their latest performance mod makes their vehicle go. Sometimes their are races between friends or rivals and they have been know to bet. There are 4 or 5 video cameras. Drag times puts together a composite video for RU-vid. No mess up. The videos may show shots out of sequence which imply that one car is well ahead but the final proof is in the numbers at the end.

+Mike B. heh classic comment. You know, i have friends who build and drive straight line drag cars, and they know the difference between performance, power, drag racing and auto racing. I race on tracks. they race at strips. I find strip racing boring. who cares how fast you can drive in a straight line. I prefer the power and torque out of a corner. when my friends race against me on a track they usually spin our their vehicles, because a straight line car isn't designed to corner, it's designed to go fast without any handling requirements. So you really don't know what you're talking about. Clearly.
