Wow, what a bike.... I realy love this new one. And a funny thing is, I right away recogniced the startingpoint to be Hüssingen, since I has been driving my Scania R460 truck through there a couple of times. Nice video.
Great video, Shawn. Really enjoyed it. You really brought out the value of the new valve engine. Can’t wait to check it out. When does it come to Canada?

Qwitcherbelyakin!! BMW makes a wonderful Bike! All of them are so well designed and quality built!! For me it would be water cooled GSA HP. with the big panniers 3 boxes. That's how you ride long distance and in Style!! I have a 30" inseam so I probably need the lower seat, but these are Really Incredible bikes! (And, I might add, there are aftermarket exhaust mufflers out there if you want more performance and sound)
Great review Shawn, you tested all aspects of the bike... Keep up the good work... I"m military and just moved from Stuttgart... Enjoy the Bavarian roads...
I'm surprised BMW launched a new engine in basically the same bike as the old version. Seems like a missed opportunity for a whole new generation of GS? Ah well, I can't complain, it means the value of my 2017 Rallye won't drop as much ;)
Doesn’t need more power, already very smooth and the torque is more than enough... what about a new design coming with a new engine?? A new design with Corner lighting, illuminated night control, heated seat, electric windshield ( not really my thing)... Seriously?? How long more do we have to wait? Oh well I keep my rally then.... There is nothing WoW about it.
what about reducing the weight by 20kg? that's more important than an electric windshield or an optional heated seat, which you could replace by an aftermarket one...
Good video and explanation of what each mode does, I own the 1250 GSA and it has taken me awhile to really figure out what each different mode does. By the way at 8:20, where you entered the BMW Training Grounds, why did you kept staying on 1st and 2nd gear? That's way too much torque for gravel, you could have easily stayed on 3rd and 4th gear, unless I am missing something. Thanks for sharing your experience.
@KTM GPS is included in the TFT screen by an APP... I fully agree: this guy can't drive a motorcycle at ALL. This BMW just looks great...almost an Africa Twin look with BMW easy of use...
If you're gonna do an official motovlog, at least get a deacent mic for the rider, Jeez. That's like step two on how to motovlog. Otherwise, I like the idea and the video 👍🏻
@@Gazza3501 We're lucky to have access to this? Dude, it's a commercial. His mic sucks. It was one of the first things I noticed. That, and he's a complete tool.
I was a bit surprised to see no-one walking around that town. Was it Sunday and they were all in church, or had there been a bombing raid siren go off and everyone was the bunkers?
The Germans are cleverer than you think. They worked out best approach is on right side because you simply put your bike on to cruise control at your chosen speed and casually adjust the windscreen with your right hand. Foot ready on foot brake if needed for safety.. Then off cruise control at your leisure. Left hand not required.
Ugh, why do they include that overpriced GPS mount still? I hated paying for it on the "premium package" on my 2014 model, as it wasn't something I could option out and still get the other premium options. I'm not going to buy that GPS, probably ever as it's too expensive and not that great compared to an iPhone even.
The GPS true is overpriced but my NAV5 went into the lake along with the GSA and stayed submerged there for 24 hours. After getting it back and charging it up, NAV came back to life immediately. Try that w/ the Iphone lol. What helped me swallow the cost of the GPS ? Trying to get it when there's a special where they include it with sale of the bike.. or use it between multiple bikes? I rigged it to work on my F800GS so use it across 3 bikes.. problem solved :P
David Fisher David, you are missing out if you think an iPhone compares ! Why do you think BMW put a control wheel on the bars ? The integration is incredible.
The shift cam does not add much power. It´s the 70 cubic more. Anyway, lets give it at least two years until most of the failures they made are ironed out. As as someone else said. How about adding useful things to the bike like a blink light which goes off automatically? I see no reason to switch from the older model to this. The price is too high compared to the reliable brands like Honda for example. BMW seems to be loosing it.
Absolutely no need to have an engine bigger than 1100 CC. Also there is no need to have more than 5 gears. More gears only results in more shifting which put more wear and tear on clutch and drive train. This is why I still ride my R1100R.
You do need more than 5, possibly seven would be nice when doing long tours like my last 20k miles from the UK via Europe to Africa, even a 7th cruise gear would be welcome.
I believe your cruise gear is equivalent to my 5th gear. Having more gears just means that you have to shift more times to get to the last gear. BTW: Is it still safe to travel through Africa?
"knobbies mean" You need to be offroad! LOL And a bigger screen gives you a little more wind protection LOL! First time on a bike? Or just a glorified advert? I can't decide.
Hi Evey, dieses Video im Speziellen nicht. Für mehr deutsche Inhalte kannst du gerne bei BMW Motorrad Deutschland vorbeischauen: facebook.com/BMW.Motorrad.Deutschland/ - Anna, BMW Motorrad Team
soo much power!... Have you been on a 1290sar? a more capable bike in every single way - Just saying. This iteration oft the gs is trying to make it more off road worthy and jamming this much electronics into it with vvt for a offroad purpose will never compete with the lc8. Good review either way! It just really sucks that they try and make a bike like the gs so confused... That's like jeep bringing out the fully electric Jeep wrangler next year which will be a complete disaster. The 1200gs is not offroad worthy with its boxer... Its too heavy and bulky :( you need a crew with spare parts and a truck to follow you if you want to take it off road. If they changed the engine and centralize the mass more like the 800 series then it should be called the 1250 gs rallye all this is IMHO of course... 10 years of riding and 2 years of track. I know my bikes
You're missing a really big point here.. that many folks just don't like the way KTMs look or feel. Once you start riding 1000cc big bore bikes, they are ALL too heavy / bulky for true single tracks. Boils down to personal choice, nothing more..
Sean , I own an identical bike. I love it. Its accomplished, and beats the KTM as an all-rounder. You sound like a good guy....BUT ! However you are a crook and a cheat ! ( Kinda rude? ) Why do I say that ? You have deliberately misled us with the video speeds to make your point at around 6:12. The bike in the film goes from 80 km/h to 120 kmh in 0,95 seconds. There is no need to try and cheat viewers. ( you show 82kmh at 6:12 and 120kmh at 6:13) Its got more torque than the stupendous 160 HP. KTM 1290! (BMW 143 nm compared to the KTM's 140nm.) There is no need to speed up your film and try and exaggerate ! (Schoolboy error )
