I can tell you have this all very well thought out, and everything fits so nicely. Thank you for sharing. This is from a guy thats ridden a few miles, and knows what to get. Happy motoring, Sir, and again, A big Thank You for sharing this here on RU-vid. Its all pretty necessary to have on the bike and as far as i can see, youve left nothing out.

You're welcome and thanks for the kind words DG. Since I posted this video, I've actually purchased a few more small accessory items which I plan to show in an upcoming video. The only other accessories that I 'MAY' buy are louder horns and auxiliary lights. But I'm on the fence on those because I'm okay without them for now. One of the benefits of owning an RT is the amount of comfort / convenience items that are already factory installed as delivered and purchased from the showroom floor. You don't need to buy a ton of accessories after the purchase. The bike is so well equipped, you can just jump on it and enjoy the ride if you want. I just thought these additional items added a little frosting on the cake. Thanks again for watching and the comment DG!!!

Excellent video sir! Your 2018 is a beautiful machine. I got my 2010 RT back in 2014 and came to check out your crash bars, which I now have coming. I carry mostly the same gear, but much less of it. For example 3' of each tape type wrapped around tool handles, and just specific tools for small fasteners...not the whole rack. This way I have room for clothing and other extended trip necessities. I keep the bike loaded in case a 'day ride' turns into a multi day adventure. : )

Thanks for stopping at the STOPsign, the compliment and watching the video Robnord1. I agree. I have gone slightly overboard with the equipment but I have nightmare visions of the bike sliding on its side for 100 ft and causing all kinds of damage. Probably too paranoid about something that hopefully should never happen. So far (knock on wood), I have plenty of space for my emergency equipment in one of my side cases which leaves the other side case and top case free for my other 'junk'. If I go on a tour or camping, I have a couple of large dry bags that are strapped on the passenger seat so I'm good as far as capacity is concerned. However, over time I may cut back on some of the emergency stuff. I hope the installation of the crash bars are problem free for you and you like them. I've already garage drop tested one side of my crash bars and can attest to the fact that they work great to protect the bike from damage. Good luck and continued happy riding on your 2014 RT. Cheers. 🥂

Thanks for the video. I just bought a 2021 RT online and won't get it until next week. Interesting to see what you carry. I only keep waterproofs and some tools in my Givi Trekker topbox on my GS as I like to pop my helmet/gloves in there what I'm parked. i'll have a LOT more room on my Rt as it comes with the big top box! Cheers.

Congratulations on your new RT!! You're gonna love it. You'll find that the BMW top case is the main storage location for most of your everyday items besides a tank bag if you're going to get one. I use my tank bag for the instantly accessible items like my gloves, phone, keys, wallet, etc. and my top case holds my safety vest, baseball cap, extra glove, fire extinguisher, helmet lock (my helmet cams don't allow for stowing my helmet in the side cases anymore), etc. And there's still plenty of room for other things. Since the cases are all lockable with the central locking system and key fob, its easy peasy to stow and go. Ride safe and enjoy your new RT! Cheers.

Thanks for your video. Just looking at some of the suppliers you use and checking their websites, I found myself on a bit of a shopping spree! Lot's of great info and I hope The improvements will help me in my decision on whether to take my new to me 2014 R1200RT or the much heavier Ultra that I've driven for years. I'm getting some highway pegs through Ilium to mount on the engine guards. I have a several thousand mile trip coming up and after Covid 19 cancelled last years adventure I'm really looking forward to it. Thanks again.

Thank you for stopping at the STOPsign .....Channel and watching the video! Happy to hear my video helped in even the smallest way. I've purchased a few more accessories (nothing major) and I've recorded video footage of them but until I get a new computer (hopefully later this year), I can't publish that video just yet. On the highway pegs, you actually helped me out. Its been a long time since I've been on the Illum Works website and I didn't know they had highway pegs for my bike. I've been searching for a solution for leg cramping on long trips so I'm definitely going to seriously look into those. So thank YOU for the tip. That long trip you've got coming up sounds really good. I'm also looking forward to some trips this year, post vaccinations. But whatever bike you decide to take on the trip, I'm sure either way, its gonna be good to get out there and get in a long ride again. Good luck and enjoy the journey!!! Cheers 🥂

Hi JN, Thanks for the words of encouragement and support. Relatively speaking, I'm new as a RU-vid Channel and still learning, still experimenting and still finding out what works and doesn't work. That being said, I had no illusions coming into this that I would get both positive and negative comments. Unless a comment is an outright personal attack or malicious, I try to improve posted videos based on everyone's inputs. So with all that said, thank you once again for the kind words. They mean a lot. 🙏 ps - I have not been posting anything new in the past few months because I need a new computer and new software that will allow me to post videos in 4K resolution. Getting those funds to purchase my new Apple desktop and software will take longer than I had expected and therefore if you have been watching video postings on my channel, this is a heads up that pending those purchases, unfortunately there will not be any videos posted. To you and to anyone else reading this, I apologize for the lack of any new videos. I ask for your patience. But when I do start posting videos again, I hope to provide a marked improvement in the quality of the videos on this channel. Cheers. 🥂

Hi JF, thanks for watching and commenting! The headlights on my bike are factory stock. I did not add a modulator to it. I think what you may be seeing probably has something to do with the camera video frame rate? Not 100% sure about that. Just a guess. Other than the options I mentioned in the video, the bike remains pretty much as purchased and equipped from the factory. Cheers. 🥂

Hey J P. Thanks for the question. The Tool Kit I purchased is made by Motohansa. I ordered it from Twisted Throttle but it appears they no longer stock / carry that item anymore but you can also find it on Amazon (link below). I don't like to state prices because they can and do change and could be more or less than what I payed but Amazon is currently showing a listed price of $225 and its called the Motohansa Pro Series Tool Kit for BMW Motorcycles. Its not specific to the R100 RT but it is designed for BMW motorcycles and I can tell you that I've used the tools in the kit to install all of my accessories and they work great. Its a pricey tool kit but it is also a high quality tool kit. It even has spark plug and front tire removal tools. Hope this answers your questions. I was considering Ilium Works for the engine crash bars and side case bars, why did you go with Wunderlich for the engine bars since you went with Ilium for the side bars?
@STOPsignforRT
@STOPsignforRT 5 лет назад
DL, Thanks for the comment. Great question. The answer is - aesthetics. I liked the looks of the Wunderlich engine crash bars better than the Ilium Works bars. I knew both would do a good job of protection, which I found out first hand when I had a tipover in the garage. No damage to the engine whatsoever and only a small scratch on the bar. As for the side case bars, I liked the low profile look of the Ilium Works bars. They don't stick up high, like the Wunderlich bars do, where it might interfere with a passengers legs, especially if your passenger is short like my wife. Again, both would do a good job. I just prefer the combination of bar protections that I bought mainly because (to me) they look better. So I would suggest that you make your choice based on what you think looks best because I think both products would protect the bike very well. Good luck in your decision and let me know if you have any further questions. Cheers. 🥂

Where did you get the headlight modulator? Thanks Ben
@STOPsignforRT
@STOPsignforRT 4 года назад
Hello Ben. Thank you for your question. I don't have a headlight modulator on my bike. The headlight is factory stock as it came from BMW. I think the flickering you see on the video has to do with the frame rate setting on my camera. I'm not a photo expert but I read somewhere that camera frame rates can cause this phenomena where the light looks like it is modulating when it is really not. Hope that answers your question. Cheers. 🥂

Hey Scott, thanks for the question. I purchased the Motohansa tool kit from Twisted Throttle. However, when I tried to look it up on their website, it appears they no longer carry that item. I searched the web and found them at this website: www.beemershop.com/category/motohansa-tools-kits.html It's called the 'Motohansa Pro Series Accessory Tool Kit - BMW. The code for the kit is - MTT00153. The three items in the kit that are for BMW's are the spark plug removal tool, drive socket for the rear axle nut and the Aluminum CNC Coil Remover / Front Wheel Removal Tool. The rest of the tools are for general use on BMW motorcycles i.e. - Torx bits you find on all BMW's, metric sockets and wrenches, etc. The kit isn't cheap but its a quality set of tools that should last a very long time. You can shop around online and maybe find a better price for them. Hope that helps. Cheers 🥂🍻

Ease of installation numbers are backwards. Easiest to install is a low number. High numbers mean more difficult.
@STOPsignforRT
@STOPsignforRT 5 лет назад
Road Glide Thanks for the comment RG. You’re right. On a Difficulty Scale, easy would be a low number and difficult would be a high number. The right engine bars were an easy install. The left side was difficult. I think the tolerances were off for the bolt holes and made it hard to align and install the mount bolts on the left side only. The 8 rating I gave for the crash bars was based on my feelings on the quality of the overall product and attaching hardware, ease of installation, thoroughness of the installation instructions, and functionality (unfortunately I’ve already drop tested it and the product functions perfectly 😮 - no damage to the bike whatsoever). Thanks again for the comment and watching the video.

Hi and thanks for your comment. Actually, no. I don't think my BMW will need these tools but to understand why I purchased them, you would need to know a little about me. I am and have always been a super prepared planner and try to anticipate anything and everything that might happen or go wrong, which doesn't always work out in real life unfortunately. Part of it could also be that I have a touch of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. 😁 However, I'd rather have more than what I will ever need than not have what I need when I need it. And congratulations on all of the mileage on your V-strom without having any issues! That's a good testament to your bike's inherent reliability and your safe riding. Lastly, thanks for the compliment. The video was filmed when the bike was pretty new. Ride safe. Cheers 🥂 / 🍻

@STOPsignforRT
@STOPsignforRT 2 года назад
Thanks for the comment..... If you pay for Breakdown Service you probably don't need these tools. I like to have them handy because I prefer to repair things myself unless what's broken is unrepairable, then I'll place a call for help. As for an air/comfort seat review, I have actually filmed footage and evaluated an Air Hawk R Cruiser Seat Cushion that I use occasionally but I can't edit and post that footage right now because my ancient computer is in need of replacement. However, I'd say that they do indeed help if you're suffering from lower back discomfort (I have chronic lower back pain myself). But the best solution would be to stop riding for short periods and stretch and exercise those back support muscles. Maybe not an ideal or practical solution while riding so the Air Hawk Seat Pad provides good temporary back pain relief. Not exactly cheap to purchase but its simple, easy to install and works relatively well for me. In my very best / wildest dreams, I am 6 foot plus but upon waking, I'm sadly the same height. 🙁 The only discomfort I have in the riding position is leg cramping and its mainly because I'm short(er) and I have a factory optional low seat with the front seat mount placed in the L/Low position which places my legs in an acute angle. I don't cramp up all the time but it does randomly happen. Cheers 🥂/🍻

How many miles do you have on the bike and how do you keep the chrome pipes from bluing?
@STOPsignforRT

1960 Apache, Thanks for the questions. I have approx. 150 miles on the bike. Not yet broken in. As for the bluing on the chrome pipes, good question. I'm pretty sure there are some compounds or products on the market that would remove the bluing but I haven't looked into them ...yet. At some point down the road I will. What I find curious is that it is only on the exhaust pipe for the right cylinder. I don't know if this is characteristic and common for the RT's or not. Just one of the questions I was going to ask the dealership when I take it in for the first service. If you or any other readers know the answer, I would like to know and others might benefit from this knowledge also. Thanks again for your interest and questions. Cheers. 🥂

@STOPsignforRT
@STOPsignforRT 3 года назад
@@thedolphinDog Thanks for the question DolphinDog. Yes. I'm still riding the RT. In fact, I'll be riding a bit more now that I'm immunized. As for my long term review of this motorcycle, it is my dream bike. When I purchased the RT, I was looking to buy my last bike that I would ride off into the sunset with. Of all the bikes on the market in 2018, I picked the RT and I have no regrets- none. Be aware however, it isn't perfect and it isn't for everyone but for me, it was THE one. Out of all the top features this bike offers, I like the bikes handling the best. Once its moving, the weight vanishes and you feel like you're riding a 350-500cc bike. Want to do some spirited cornering? No problem. Want to tour? No problem. Going to the grocery store for milk? No problem. Its got more power (even without the new shift-cam technology) that I would ever need. Comfort and Convenience is the next best thing that I love. It has pretty much every imaginable feature that a biker would want or need. Mine was fully loaded as it sat on the showroom floor. The only other options were the Low Seat, Navigator 6 and the top case, which I bought, and auxiliary lighting, which I did not buy but that is something I'm still considering. Oh, and maybe louder horns. The one slight negative is the foot-peg / leg positioning. I have had some minor leg cramping during rides. I think that's mainly because I have the optional lower seat and the seat's front mount is set to the Low position to enable me to reach the ground with both feet almost flat. I think that's causing my leg to be in a more cramped / acute angle position than most other people. But that's it as far as negatives or problems that I've had. Take this information with a grain of salt though because these are only my opinions and comments. Your experience / situation may differ from mine and your likes and dislikes may differ from mine. IMHO however, I don't think you'll regret your purchase and even more so with the new power, new styling, new TFT screen, adaptive cruise control, etc. etc. I do want to stress and state again though, these are only my thoughts / opinions. Good Luck and let me know if you do go ahead with your decision to buy. Cheers 🥂

@@thedolphinDog Sorry to hear about your accident. But you're exactly right about the RT's white color. At first glance, it makes people pause for a second or more (depending on their knowledge of police motorcycles) and slow down / start paying attention. It makes them safe and keeps us safer too. As for the engine heat, I can only speak for the 2018 model but I haven't had any issues with excessive heat from the cylinders. But that might be because it doesn't get too hot very often where I live. On the new 2020 you're buying, yes I've heard about those Hayes brake issues. There are several RU-vid videos on them. I'd make sure you're satisfied with the fix and warranty before I took delivery if I were you. I have Brembo's and they've been problem free.
