I installed Denali D4 lights on my BMW R1250 GS Adventure motorcycle as I wanted more lights and more visibility. Although the Adventure model comes with standard fog lights, the Denali has some great features, such as passing strobe, strobe when using the horn, and the dimming is customizable.
I did not (yet) install the brake lights, which also have some cool features with the CanSmart.
I bought mine at A Bike Thing www.abikething.com/ - great customer service.

Great job. Nice color GSA too. Denali also has a set for the lower fork legs that really add value to your path. Hope you also added Denali Sound Bomb horn. 120db of ear bleeding horn blast to wake up distracted drivers drifting into your lane or crossing left in front of your at intersections. Ride safe and ride often.

Great video. I have Baja Designs lights and the Hex EZ Can on my 2017 GSA, but use the same Denali light mount as you, because I preferred the positioning it gives.

Good video thanks, I would like to see how you made the connections between the wiring and your battery, also if you needed to connect any cable to the ignition of the motorcycle.

Great job. Thanks for the video. Dont you think that a pair of pure spot type lights would be better since you have already stock driving/flood lights?
@BackroadMotorcycleAdventures
@BackroadMotorcycleAdventures 5 лет назад
Barkın Şahin Yes, that might be a better option. I am quite pleased with the D4s as they do add more flood light higher than the stock fog light at high beam. At the low beam the D4’s don’t do much at night, where the stock fog lights do. I’m using the lense that leaves to upper two spot and the lower two flood. I may try to replace the lenses with only spot. Thanks for watching :-)

Hi, hope you don’t mind me asking a question, I have just hooked up a Denali CanSmart to my GS 1250 and I noticed when switching on the ignition I get an weirded electrical sound from the front of the bike, I think from the tft screen, have you noticed anything like this when you did your installation, if I unplug the CanSmart the sound is no longer present,
@BackroadMotorcycleAdventures
@BackroadMotorcycleAdventures 5 лет назад
No, I haven't. I just went and unhooked it to make sure, and it is the same sound. It does say a low hissing sound, that I think is from the fuel pump, but there is no difference between the CanSmart hoooked up or not. I did not disconnect it from the mains, just the Canbus. They are not coming from the lights (or sound bomb if you have one)?

I am trying to run my Denali power cables over the tank just like you did, but how did you tuck in those cables at the edge of the fuel tank? I don't see any room there to squeeze those cables?
@BackroadMotorcycleAdventures
@BackroadMotorcycleAdventures 4 года назад
dcdell2008 They have to stay as center as possible and close to the fuel cap. There is no room if you get too close to the screws on the side panels (the ones that click together with the fuel tank cover). That way I got room for the light cable, horn cable, and front facing camera cable.
@dcdell2008
@dcdell2008 4 года назад
@@BackroadMotorcycleAdventures Finally got all three wires running via center of fuel tank and all is working well. This is really the best way to run these power wires from the front of the bike as it provides the most direct and less interference from touching any moving parts & it also avoids any heat exposure from the engine area. By the way, my Denali soundbomb horn kit came with some sore of anti chaffing shield for the front brake lines as I noticed after I installed the horn, the hydraulic brake lines are now contacting/touching the bottom part of the horn, I also wrapped a couple of hockey tape for good measure. Please double check your brake lines and make sure it is not scrapping. Thanks for the reply and ride safe.

Hi, nice video, I've just fitted D4s and CanSmart to my 2014 GSA, I was setting up the intensity for about 10 minutes with engine off, and when I tried to start it to park the bike it really struggled... Could a pair of D4s drain the battery in 10 minutes? Thanks!
@BackroadMotorcycleAdventures
@BackroadMotorcycleAdventures 5 лет назад
I honestly don't know. I haven't had any problems with mine. But I have read a thread on a local BWM forum about batteries on GSA including my 2011 and someone else's 2014 (and a few other from other years) that did have issues with the battery (check ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-d2UqJsI_Ex8.html ). Do you think it just might be the battery that have trouble delivering the amps it takes for the starter - and the D4's just tipping it over, so to speak? Thanks for watching.
@barkinsahin
@barkinsahin 5 лет назад
A pair of D4s consumes c40w. The battery of the gs is c12Ah. At 12v, with engine turned off, D4s could deplete the battery in 3 hours.
@BackroadMotorcycleAdventures
@BackroadMotorcycleAdventures 5 лет назад
Barkın Şahin That’s great info. Thanks. I guess it must be more than the D4s assuming the battery was fully charged. The instrument cluster, sensors, and stuff draw some power as well, I assume? I don’t know how much that account for though.

What are your thoughts on the new d7? Do you have any views on the Baja Lp 9 . Both are clear water sevinna equivalents
@BackroadMotorcycleAdventures
@BackroadMotorcycleAdventures 4 года назад
murugananth sabapathy While I know of them, I have no experience with them. A friend of mine use Baja (not sure which model) with a combined lumens of about 10,000 (if i remember correctly), and he’s happy with them. About the D7; I like the specs (although they might be a little too big for my taste). At nigh, they may only be usable for high beam as they may blind oncoming traffic even at 10%. As running light at daytime, they’d be fine at 10%, i’m sure. But they could definitely light up the road at night on high beam. Thanks for watching!

@BackroadMotorcycleAdventures 4 года назад
murugananth sabapathy What I thing you should do in your decision process is to look at 1) are you using a canbus controller. If yes, is it the Denali version, then the fitting is easier with Denali lights (although they’d all work with it). If it is the hex ezcan, wiring is more standard. If you’re not using canbus controller, then dimming may not be that easy and you’d run them at 100%. Also, look at the fitting options. At the end of they day, all makes are good quality, so you’d be pleased with whichever you choose.

@@BackroadMotorcycleAdventures im already running my dual baja squadron pros via the Hex ezcans . Im planning to ride into the himalayas ie spiti. nd do some night photography. So need a bigger ..wider and longer throw. The sevinnas from clear water do the job but are expensive. The other option was the baja lp9 nd the new kid d7. Which are cheaper but the crees are different in both the lp9 nd d7. So need some hands on experience of the lp9

Can you teach me where did you connect the wires of the denali auxiliary lights..
@BackroadMotorcycleAdventures
@BackroadMotorcycleAdventures 5 лет назад
They are connected to the Denali CanSmart controller. It plugs in to the bike’s canbus system so the lights are controlled from the standard switches, i.e. beam, wonder wheel, and brake lights. Thanks for watching.

There are many options to make it lowered my friend... You just have to get use to the bike weight instead of the heights...lowering seat and lowering kit ( some add on ) and even set the absorber at Minimum will be the few options they have...

Hi... if you want better fitting .... you need to turn 180° your bracket ..it move the position more front de lights... i saw a video on you tube for the problem you have.. not end of space for the light... the name off the video are ....R1250GSA how to fit de denali lights bar and D4 lights ... form CYMARC

Great suggestion. I actually did consider that, but it would move the the light so much forward that it kind of looked like a mustache under a nose, if you know what I mean. It looked a little weird. I think they have actually made a new bracket for the 1250GSA that fits better, that they ship with new orders. The bracket do allow the lights to move a little forward, like 5 mm or 1/4 inch or so. Thanks for the suggestion, I appreciate that :-)

Yes, I found out. I did order it for a 1250 though, but I guess they hadn't made it at that time - that can be their only excuse. I could manage to fit it though, but there is not a lot of wiggle room. I have been told that the real 1250 is a much better fit.

I advice you to remove the sound bomb, I had a big accident due to the sound bomb getting trapped with the shock bars. Mounting it in the middle of the bars with the Denali bracket is not safe at all. On my new bike I use the Denali sound bomb mini with the Denali BMW conector, it’s a plug and play option and the best one.
@BackroadMotorcycleAdventures
@BackroadMotorcycleAdventures 5 лет назад
Ricardo Moran Wow. That sounds terrible. I hope you are OK. To be honest, I was a little surprised that it was mounted the way it was. Not so much that it fitted between the bars, but that it only had one mounting point making it get it the way if it came slightly loose. Also that the brake and ABS cable bumps into it when the shock is compressed had always annoyed me. With your experience I will take it off. Thanks a lot for your advice. 👊😃

Backroad Motorcycle Adventures I broke my shoulder but I’m OK now, thanks to God and my Schuberth C4 helmet I can tell the story. I have another friend that had the same issue with the SoundBomb, he also went down but thankfully he was going slow on a dirt road. I’ve installed the Denali D4’s with the CANSmart using the new Denali Bracket made for the R1250GSA, it’s a new part and you won’t have issues with the cable touching the side panel, I advice you to get the new bracket. Thanks a lot for your videos. Ride safe Brother
