Thanks for doing this. It's exactly the same on an X7 w/ M sport brakes. Made the job go really easy. I also used bimmer code which made the brakes just go back in w/o the tool.

Hello Ama, Nice! Great to hear it was helpful! Using a scan tool does make the job A LOT easier :)

Hey, what are the steps on bimmer code if you dont mind me asking, trying to see if I can do the rear brake job myself. Thank you!
@ashtonm
@ashtonm 3 месяца назад
@@skediskadisorry it's with bimmerlink not bimmercode. But there's a button to do it and you have to pres sit twice with the ignition on. I think it was called "brake service mode"
@skediskadi

@@ashtonm Did you have to ALSO turn the piston after using bimmerlink or just use bimmerlink to retract and good to go?

Thanks for sharing. The only thing confusing me there is the rotation that the tool turned the piston to retract it, because if you remove the EMF actuator and use that method, you also turn the drive clockwise on the back of the calliper. I guess there must be a gear or gears in between the back of the piston and the drive pinion on the back of the calliper

I don't normally take the motor off and either use this tool or my scan tool to retract the electronic parking brake.

Very helpful video, but you used #9 on the caliper service tool, not #6. I would also add that the left and right rear wear indicators are different and require a different cable.

You videos were very helpful thanks for creating them. After I finished the job on my 2020 X5 now I have brake system malfunction indications displayed and the brakes are definitely not working correctly. The car says “stop carefully brake system” and cont. driving possible. Chassis stabilization. Also parking assist malfunction. Any idea where I might have gone wrong?

Sorry to hear that Duane. Maybe the brake fluid reservoir was too low? Check the brake fluid level switch and cap. Scan the car and see what codes you may have. Normally a brake job would not cause this.

there are no drum shoes ? how does the hand brake work, is it electrical/electronic ?

@AdrianJayeOnline Hello, On some BMWs the E brake is activated via an electric motor attached to the rear caliper.

Hi I really liked the way you explained in video and need suggestion . I own a 2019 BMW 530xi drive and I need to change my rear rotors and pads can you suggest me the good brand to buy online .

I would look at FCP Euro. I usually use BMW OEM parts but FCP offers a lifetime guarantee. I am going to give them a try on my BMW X5 E70 that needs front and rear brakes.

Hi Roger, few months back I asked you regarding cold start RPM jumping up/down issue on my BMW X5 2012. As per, your recommendations I checked vacuum leaks, MAS sensor, and re-learned drive adaptations. But issue never went away. after, watching your Sarvo Motor replacement on X5. I did preventative replacement maintenance on my Sarvo Motor. After, re-adjusting adaptation on motor my RPM issue on cold start went away. I guess, if Sarvo Motor is on its way out it could affecting timing on RPMs on cold and regular start. maybe we can add checking out Sarvo Motor in tips if someone has cold/regular RPM start issue along MAS, Vacuum leaks. thanks bud.

That is great! I have never done a Servo motor as a maintenance item but it could cause a rough feel since it directly effect the intake valves. Any slight binding at a specific spot could cause some symptoms. Thanks for sharing this information!

I think this is the only video I've seen for rear M-Sport brakes that when it's manually retracted, you're not separating the motor from the caliper first and then using a Torx bit to retract the EPB mechanism prior to using a piston compressor. This method works without breaking anything?
@AskTheCarExperts
@AskTheCarExperts 4 месяца назад
Correct, that is what the special tool is for. But you can take the motor off or use a scan tool to put the mechanism into the retracted state.

Ah, thanks. I have one of these tools gathering dust in my box. Good to know it will work for this as a backup to Bimmerlink brake service mode.

Do you HAVE to change out the brake sensors on the front and back pads and get new ones or can you just unplug them and reuse them if you don’t break them??
@AskTheCarExperts
@AskTheCarExperts 8 месяцев назад
Great question John, If the sensor is worn through and the warning light was on you will have to replace. BMW recommends to replace the sensor every time it is removed. BUT if the sensor is intact and you are able to remove it carefully you CAN re-use the sensor no problem :)

Can you also use a screwdriver to push the pistons on the REAR caliper AFTER rolling back the electromechanical actuator? Or do you need a clamp or special tool
@AskTheCarExperts
@AskTheCarExperts 9 месяцев назад
You are correct that once the actuator is retracted you can use the screw driver trick to push the piston back with the pads in place.

Lol I did clean the front ones but had to get the job done. Had to run back and forth due to incorrect front rotors.

Good afternoon. I have a 2021 540i M Sport with 52,000 miles. Rear brakes are needing to be done now. Dealer wants $1,200 just to do the rear pads with rotors. On this video, are you showing the side with the electronic Ebrake??? If I do the brakes myself, is there anything special I need to do, other than manually turn the piston in, then pump the brakes when finished.? I never saw you use any clamps or anything special to hold the piston in, nor use any screwdriver to get it to come back out.... Is it essentially this easy? Nothing will happen to the Ebrake motor or blow any pistons out, if I basically do what i just watched?

Hi Scott, I think for the rear brakes this would be the same. For the fronts the calipers may be a slightly different style as this was on a BMW G30 5 Series

Hi roger. Hey thought perhaps you could help with my issue with my 2008 528i..when I drive at speeds higher that 40ish my front end starts to wobble ( for lack of better word). I just changed lower control/thrush arms..but it hasn’t helped..it almost feels like I’m driving over mini speed bumps..or my tire is going flat..what would make this happen?..just ordered new sway bars bc they looked worn….but just don’t know..if you can please help I would greatly appreciate it.. Thanks Joe

@AskTheCarExperts Год назад
Hi Joe, That might be hard to help with without being able to look at the car. Lift both front wheels and wiggle test the suspension back and forth up and down looking for any play. Swap your wheels front to back to see if that changes anything if not staggered sizes.
