BMW Vibration Fix Drive Shaft Replacement X3 X5 E46 E39 E90 E60 F30 F10 For Business Contact : Nathan's BMW Workshop Po Box 115 Altenburg Mo 63732 nathan.youtube@yahoo.com
Good to see your still going buddy. I was watching and subbed when I had my e39 so around 5-6 years ago now. You helped me then I'm sure you will inspire more too. Take it easy keep up the good work.
Thanks Nathan. Just had to do this on my X3 in the driveway. You weren't lying. It sucked without a lift. You got to do what you got to do. The only thing I could see to add is if the new one you got with the grease fitting, if you need to preload it or tighten anything like ones with a lock collar.
My old v6 ‘94 Camaro I had was a two piece drive shaft and the center joint went out and dropped in the road. Lost all power. Replaced with a solid drive shaft.
I recently replaced my starter on my e46 on jack stands from the bottom! Hardly any room but got it done, now I need to this job, I’m soooo excited as it will be a million times easier than that starter from underneath, Nathan have you ever done a starter from underneath ?
If you wanted to replace just the center support, can you just slide the 2 shafts apart or is there a lock collar that you have to unscrew?...I'm trying to do this today
I had to replace my x3 driveshaft due to the rear joint going bad. Car vibrated like crazy and quickly turned into clunking. The rear flange took a can of pb blaster and repeated heat cycles(I only had a propane torch) to get it to disconnect.
Hey on the driveshaft itself is there any markings to line up when you’re connecting the driveshaft and the prop shaft back together? I screwed up and forgot to make markings. I haven’t looked on mine yet but curious if yours did!
Do you footage of shake cause I been chasing this in my.e60 forever it will only do it when it.drops under 650 I've done spark.plugs coils vanos new.belt belt tensioner
I get a clunk on my left rear side when breaks hit 2006 M5 has new bushings? Also can I do engine mounts without a lift? Oil leaking from them. My rear end also noisy on right turns going to put additive?
Question (I see video is from 2021), so not sure if this is monitored. I didn't hear and see mention of replacing the driveshaft bolts, which I neglected to do on my '06 X3, until I read the Bentley X3 manual. "Replace with new". These are expensive buggers, at $9.66 a pop. (Well, I think anyway. Is this a reasonable price in 2022?). Thanks. I have learned a heck of lot from your vids. 😀
I have a squeak in reverse only on my 2006 x3....It doesn't do it in neutral...only in reverse.. The front driveshaft is toast so I removed it to test and the squeak is still there...Any Idea what it could be? Its not the brakes.
Hello. I have a bmw f34 ( 320d xdrive 2014 ). When I suddenly accelerate the car there is a loud noise from below, do you think you can give me an idea what could be wrong? thank you
So yes they sell the CSB separately, I know for sure on an E46. The driveshaft does come apart, which you need to mark it before you pull it apart. Several other videos on this subject. Ultimately on mine the spider bearing (u joint bearing) ended up being bad which would eat the CSB. Replaced the Flex Disc and CSB once then it tore apart the CSB shortly after. In that case you need to replace the entire shaft as to re-build the u-joint is not for the common DIY'er as they are staked in and there is no listing for the actual part. The shaft is only good for around 150K. So I sent my shaft to a guy in Texas (Driveshaft Specialist of Texas) who re-built mine, included the new CSB. You only have to get the Flex Disc. Cost was for mine $475 which included the shipping cost on the rebuild. Yes a lift is key. I have done it before the first time on drive up ramps and jack stands. Second time for the replacement I had the Quick Jack Lift which was worth its weight in gold. I bought the lift gently used for half price. I have used it now three times and only wonder whey I never bought it a lot earlier when performing maintenance on this car. I don't have room for a full blown lift as shown here but in my opinion, this is the next best thing. You can find other videos on Quick Jack. If you have a Costco, they also sell them for less and at times they run a sale. - Not affiliated with Driveshaft Specialist, Quick Jack or Costco, but hey giving props to where it is deserved.
What was the symptom that made you suspect the Center Bearing Support and driveshaft? My car sounds like it is knocking underneath under anything more than a gradual acceleration until I get up to about 35 mph. If there is a bad bushing in the rear it is not obvious to me.
Universal Joints gets sticky with these X3s and they start Juddering at low speeds at first acceleration. The way to find out is to disconnect the front Differential and Juddering stops. Replacing the UJ is the cheapest solution but replaced the whole shaft is even better.
If the center support bearing is broken, the sympton is a very noticeable clanking noise during initial acceleration as you described. As a shameless plug as well as providing additional information on this topic, here is a quick video I made ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-V2vlEdkYr8M.htmlsi=MZuKITC6nBIYp5rw
anybody can help me out ? I put the gear in neutral position turned-on status . because turning off made the gear in parking position. and going down to spin the drive shaft to loosen the bolts but it wouldn't. What was I wrong ? I am the one who replace the drive shaft but forgot what was the right step. please help me!
hi Nathan , i have a "clink" sound when shifting into reverse, not really there when shifing into drive but i was told it was probably the guibo. do you think that is likely the case?
that's a failed csb- center support bearing- on the driveshaft. the driveshaft needs to be dropped to replace so you might as well do the guibo, cv joint, diff seals, input bearing while it's out
Hey Nathan, I really appreciate your videos, they've helped me out a lot as I'm a fairly new owner of a 05 ZHP. It has exactly one hundred thousand miles on it and it is an automatic. Can you possibly let me know the milage on your mother's car and maybe give me an estimate when this should be done? I don't have any vibrations and it runs great actually but just for future reference? Thanks in advance.
This is really odd… I have been talking about the vibration on my E53 and also about my petrol strummer that won’t start - in the kitchen where my Amazon Echo is… RU-vid Ai is now recommended this video ( I’m subscribed too this channel anyway) and also others on how to start a petrol garden tool which I am not subscribed too. Anyway, My X5 has a strange harshness/ vibration as I gently accelerate at 2000rpm. I can feel it through the vehicle. It’s not really bad but I know it’s there. My plan is to replace the rear subframe bushes as they are knackered and take a good look at the driveshaft.
I sometimes think they deliberately make BMWs the way that even shed mechanics who just tap it a few times, charge a couple of thousands but the problem still stays unresolved, get away with it. And yet no owner gets angry, the all just live with it...
What’s the point if ur gonna skip the actual process of showing how to get the bearing off. The way he is tugging on the drive shaft is just disrespect. Mine is stuck to the diff and this Manz just rips it off. This is all fake
