Until the Wrestling rules go away AND you get in a Cage with a good wrestler, bjj black belt with múltiple ways to submit him and highly skilled striker combined that can KO a wrestler with a punch , kick , elbow , knee , or combination of . Many start with Wrestling base but without striking AND submissions you're just another Ben askren lining up to get ko'd AND concussed by these animals with múltiple skills. Rhonda rousy with judo was unbeatable with judo AND arm lock until she started getting kicked in the head AND had her lightscturned out by woman that had bjj skills AND could box hear head off. To be fair, a good number of elite wrestlers could likely do this, it’s just not the standard route to take. Not diminishing Cejudo’s amazing feat, just saying. If guys like Lee, Yianni, Vito, Dake, etc. did nothing but train for senior freestyle, they could medaled in Olympic wrestling by now. Imo.

Yoel’s wrestling is nowhere near as good as it used to be due to his neck issues. He’s still a beast of a wrestler but not as good as he was in the Olympics.

Henry could go back down to 135 and regain the strap but he's been torturing his body to make weight since he was 12? 14? He wants to eat. It takes an incredible amount of discipline to fight at your lightest optimal weight. Also, Henry being Hispanic is irrelevant. Alex Perrera is one of the UFC top stars and he doesn't even speak English. Henry is an American legend and arguably the greatest combat sports athlete of all time. Just ask Chael Sonnen.

The olympic trials for team USA are so crazy. There are a couple other college wrestlers like Bo who went essentially undefeated in their college careers, each winning multiple NCAA championships, and then they all have to wrestle each other for the right to be on the team. It's like a tournament among legends and you got to be the best of the best of the best.
Bo went to MMA strictly because he would never beat DT or others up/down weight classes to get to Olympic level. He’s great but not the best in USA at any weight.
Yeah, but not to say he couldn't be the best at some point. For example, Even Kyle Dake, who was a 4x NCAA champion, took 5 years after college to qualify for his first US World's team and 8 years post-graduation to make his first olympic team. He kept losing to Jordan Burroughs in qualifying until he finally won. MMA grappling is much more than freestyle or folkstyle wrestling. Arguably, Greco wrestling has more effectiveness in MMA. Regardless, judo and BJJ play roles in MMA grappling. It’s why sambo does well in the current MMA meta. Sambo guys are usually levels above collegiate wrestlers in judo and BJJ.
Yes, samboist are very complete grapplers, since they cross-train in judo and wrestling, henry always shit on judo and bjj which is funny because he has no offensive bjj, mediocre top control and most of the his takedowns are inside leg trips, maybe paying attention to different grappling styles may help him to be a top mma grappler.

Dagestan almost completely dominates the Russian wrestling scene, BUT STILL, it is freestyle. Khabib does SAMBO (still obviously a phenomenal wrestler) but it’s a different discipline and some skills negatively affect WRESTLING. You have to understand that WRESTLING is not ufc wrestling. Takedowns are important in MMA and that’s basically what freestyle wrestling is, takedowns. HOWEVER, the ability to dominate your opponent once you get them down is a whole different animal. That is where Bo will have an absolute advantage over anybody he faces. When it comes to dominating your opponent on the ground, folk-style wrestling is definitely the better of the two styles. When you combine jujitsu to the mix you create a monster! That’s what Bo is…and ground fighting monster.

I think casual fans don’t realize that a if not all a good majority of the top college wrestlers are already at a world/olympic level. I can literally name 10 guys that if they didn’t win they did extremely well on the world circuit. Don’t get me wrong an Olympic gold is an Olympic gold. But to say that Henry cejudo is better simply based off that is just wrong. That’s like saying Daniel Cormier is a better wrestler because he wrestled in the Olympic which we just know isn’t true.
