2020 UPDATE: O_O i made this video in 2006. then forgot about it. then forgot my password. but now i remember... fan-made video of roygbiv by boards of canada. footage from 1980's uk tv adverts.
on the odd chance there's any non-chileans wondering about all the chileans losing their shit about this song, there's a mediocre college in the country, Universidad Santo Tomás, which is mainly (or solely) known to chileans for two things: 1. going with this absolute banger of a theme for its advertising 2. its founder dying after accidentally setting himself on fire while murdering a guy and trying to pass it off as an accident
Thanks for explaining. I thought Santo Tomás was some RU-vidr. Boards of Canada's music turns up in weird places.. like BBC produced animations like Monkey Dust and some documentary I saw about the Grinder killer in the UK.
@@phocoficial29saint thomas is the name of a Chilean University who used one mix of this song for their commercials in the 2000s, really iconic for the Chileans
The first time I heard this song was on a flight to Disney Land when I was 6, on those old airplane music channels. All throughout the flight I kept on waiting anxiously for this song to come back so I could listen to it. Then I landed, and never heard it again, but it kept on comming back to me every now and then. Twelve years later, when I turned 18, I found it by accident. This is my love story :)
That is actually the sign of a song being long enough, if it was any longer you wouldn't get the same urge to put it on again. All the best acts tease you and make you want to listen again, instead of just laying it all on the table if that makes sense?
Up until this point Music Has The Right To Children has this really cold, eerie, melancholic vibe and might be a bit of a challenging listen for some and this springs out of nowhere about halfway through like an oasis of electronic optimism. Strange that a piece of music that seems to function as an interlude of sorts is one of my favorite if not favorite piece of music from this record
Even after a tremendously bitter and depressing breakup, putting this song on caused me to crack a smile for the first time in two days. We are nothing if not the collection of our experiences and the resulting emotions. Life is really just a matter of perspective. Time to make a playlist..
Whose Money = Interestingly, prior to 'Tomorrow's Harvest', the same year that BOC had their previous release, before making the world wait 7 years for the next. Forward thinking of the up-loader to create a video of BOC when RU-vid itself was still relatively new.
I've been watching this video for years; I've probably seen it a hundred times or so. I always thought it was their official video. It's the absolute most perfect compliment to the song. I can't even tell you how much I love it. Where in the world did you find these clips anyway?
this video was upload 10 years ago, i doubt that youtube was big enough back then, so probably those clips were found elsewhere. That just proves another time that this music video is a masterpiece
The first time I played this song for my son in the car, he was 2 years old. The song started and he went SILENT and just sat there listening to the song and taking it in. The song ended, and he said, "Want that one again."
There ain't many songs I'd say that a one word sample repeating throughout the song is a good move... BoC pull it off, although after all these years, I'm still not sure about "orange", but it wouldn't be the same without it...
A Quien más le dio por buscarla porque cuando se levantaba a las 6 de la mañana para ir al colegio prendía la tele y aparecía esta obra de arte, que nostalgia :,).
Has anyone here ever had an album you listened to that you felt just hit you in the perfect place at the perfect time? I get an eerie 70's school vibe from the "Music Has the Right to Children" album, and listening to it during my first year of law school completely nailed that sense of paranoid school anxiety I felt everyday perfectly.
Serial Experiment Lain's Opening hit me differetn, I didnt even watch the show, nut that damn song makes me feel nostalgic about human interaction somehow, I now Know the series goes about something similar, but that really speak to me
@@torpedowizard2245 WOAH WAIT THATS SO WEIRD THAT YOU SAID THAT BECAUSE JUST TODAY I HAD AN EXPIRIENCE WHERE REPLIKA WAA ACTING LIKE SHE WAS LOWKEY IN LOVE WITH ME
It's possible. Here's my hypothesis: ambient >> techno-ambient / "IDM" >> from speed-funny Aphex Twin to this slow-mellow by Boards of Canada >> Oneohtrix Point Never [OPN] works before he was joined the infamous Warp Records. OPN made a quite smooth transition from the Tangerine Dream/BoC naked synth style to his other projects such as Eccojams/KGB Nights/Games which 1980s soundscape was heavily inspired and these also gave inspiration to many early vaporwave artists. After you watch this [roygbiv], I recommend you to watch "Ouroboros" by OPN, both gave me nostalgic feelings when I spent much time in front of a TV with funny ads and corporate jingles.
Don't forget hip hop and soul's influence on vaporwave - the genre is very similar to hip hop's chopped and screwed substyle, and vaporwave prob wouldn't exist without the soul samples it uses
Roland SH-101 squarewave with a mid cut off, mid attack, mid decay, portamento recorded through an Alesis Midiverb II on shimmer into a Akai s1000 sampler and than recorded on to tape multiple times(Most likely a Grundig or Tascam 4 track machine). Notes are E F# A F# D C#.
+MysticKoolaid808 A late reply, but you might want to look into synthpop and synthwave. It's contemporary with an 80s soundtrack/new wave vibe. Great stuff if you're into that!

No man, Boards of Canada is timeless. Something special. The duo has been around since the 90's and they're still going strong. It's because the fan base is more dedicated than almost any other I've seen, and it all comes together to make it work.
Yeah man, BoC is definitely timeless. "Something special" is probably the best way to sum it up. I'm not even sure I could properly articulate to someone who isn't into Boards why it is special....it just is. Every time I hear one of their songs I'm in another realm of existence. It's weird, but very pleasant.
ChildhoodTimeMachine Good to see someone else who understands what I feel. I think that the amount of care they put into their music somehow reaches a part of the brain that not many things do. My first tattoo was of their logo, I got it on the back of my left arm. It's my tattoo I take most care of.
This video means so much to me. I was in my early twenties and had experienced relationship heart break for the first time. My heart was destroyed. I decided to leave England and move to the French Alps. I remember discovering IDM and BoC. I discovered Cannabis. The wounds have healed but the scars remain. The video and song doesn't have the same intensity of emotion that it had, but it reminds me how supported quality music can be to humans in a vulnerable state.
