I've seen videos turning a utility trailer into one that could transport a canoe. I was brainstorming if there was a way to make a convertable trailer that would work for a canoe and also still a utility trailer. I think your extension might be key to my plans. How did you make the slide in extension?
Nice effort but totally overkill. Just have a check list of things to do before hitting the road and you're fine. I just added a telescopic extension and will add an extra 5/8" pin at the other end for double safety before hitting the road.
That is not the right way. That is an excessive amount of chain and is unnecessary. All you do is put the middle of the safety chain through the bolt of the tongue where it attaches to the frame. Go to home depot or lowes and look how their safety chains are mounted, that is the right way. Good luck.
Home Depot is designed for normal boat to trailer hitch, this is a 4ft extended hitch, if I were to do it your way and forgot the pin, I would lose the whole boat, the excess chain you speak of is only to keep it extension from coming out, the rest is same as other boats.
Could have drilled a hole through the extension then just bolted the chain, that also keeps you from having to cut yoir chain, and stronger than the welded angle
