knowing how your boat reacts on the water is the first step towards controlling it.

If you're easy on the controls and you don't apply lots of reverse power, it will not be effecting you that much on a single outboard engine. navigating with a sailboat in reverse or a sloop, you better know what it is doing to your boat and you might even use it coming alongside.
If you have a single engine with counter rotating props, it might not effect you at all.
