Heres a suggestion, late, but none the less. When removing wiring harnesses or electronics, disconnect the wiring from instruments and power sources, mark as unused, and leave. Dont remove them unless they are damaged or in the way. Its much easier to "pull" a wire through the hull with old wire, or even use unused wiring if you install something else in the future. Just make sure its tidy.

I’m glad you are going full time on sailing and producing videos. Your channel is definitely the most informative and straight to the point channel I have found on the internet . Keep up the good work and content

I have a 40 ft Sailboat myself and know how it feels every time I know I need to mess with wires on the boat. I installed the new Raymarine i700 system, including the autopilot and I'm totally amazed at how good it works. The displays are awesome. I also bought my boat used and had to do some hard work, including taking the engine out (a 40Hp 2012 Yanmar) to a complete overhaul due to mistreats by the former owner. It took me almost 2 months to get it ready for her 1st trip, but it was absolutely worth every minute. Good look with your new toy man :)

Nice! I sailed a Beneteau 42 aboard with friends from the Marianas to Chi Chi Jima in the month of April, many years ago. And sailed the same yacht from Yokohama, Japan back to the Marianas in the dead of winter the following year. Great boat, plastic though she is. The three things I learned. It is much more comfortable to sleep on the sole in a rough sea than in a berth; the windlass is everything in a boat, and beyond 6 ft, the water is deep everywhere. Great sailing.

Josh started watching your vlog and can't stopped...hehe.. where you forced to resigned from the Navy? As a naval officer you need to promote as time progress in your career or your forced to resigned unless your an enlisted person..by the way I own a 185 bayliner thinking of getting a sailboat soon.

I used to be station there and used the same ramp to launch our PBs, I've never sailed but I'm interested in learning and eventually buying my sailboat and sail to beautiful places.

Congratulations! I am very excited for you. Not that you need more work, but.... if you are looking for a topic for future videos, I would be very interested to know what your considerations were for upgrading your instruments, and how much it cost you for all the bits, and if you are going to go with an AIS receiver/transponder. Fair winds and good health to you.

I'm not a big amazon fan; however, I had several flat fenders in my kit when I was sailing. Do the link. I liked them much better that barrel style fenders. We also used them as floats while swimming at anchor. I'm not connected with the fender company in any capacity. I'm too old to sail any longer, but I thought I'd pass the idea on. Happy sailing.

Never wire up fittings to a zinc , inside the boat you will liven up all fittings with electrolluses The deal is turn off battery’s when leaving the boat , all battery’s , and your fine , in marinas it’s stray current flinging around other boats attacking the vulnerable. But you have zinc so it will attack that and leave the boat alone , if you wire up all fittings you allow the current vire the wire to corrode fittings that don’t need corroding , shaft / rudder zincs are fine And two many zinc blocks cause more issues , you attract the problem , I have seen a boat that had 5 zinc blocks and everything was corroding away , so with a plastic boat like yours two is spot on keep going
@JoshPostVlogs
@JoshPostVlogs 5 лет назад
Good tips. Question, are you saying not to attach metal thru-hull fitting to ground wire? I was not planning to add more zincs to thru-hull fittings but I had always head to "ground" those pieces of metal from the inside.
@kz4506
@kz4506 5 лет назад
Yes correct all you are doing is making all fittings live to the zinc so when it gets attacked everything will your are forming a field around the water line forming a battery , so stop the attack at the prop shaft zinc and replace it every year , after the first year you will see the results of corrosion to the block my boat was wired and I noticed things fizzing away around the boat , delete the wire and every thing is fine and free now and the shaft block is usually only half corroded but still attached to the shaft ok you skin fittings cocks , etc are probably bronze set alone in a plastic hull , antifouling painted out side so is protected , just leave them , and worry about the bare metals . shaft , etc , but you will be spending a lot of time on this boat , living , sailing , and just being aboard making the boat lived in , warm etc so not locked up months on end , corroding. I wipe greese just around the exposed part of the fitting in the hull , then with the hose clips I put two on screwed tight and one floating up the hose for emergency at sea and Watch these over time , I also throw handfuls of rock salt in the bulges to take care of moisture, ventilation in boats is paramount , keeping it dry , keep going all good here
@JoshPostVlogs
@JoshPostVlogs 5 лет назад
Excellent info! Thanks. I've found competing info online, some say to use ground wire on fittings / sea cocks and other say this is no good. I'm hoping not to be plugging into shore power very often so I'm hoping to avoid the problem because I read the corrosion is actually caused by shore power at the dock. Thanks again. This is what's great about forums like this to share knowledge and personal experience. Good stuff.
@kz4506
@kz4506 5 лет назад
Shore power won’t be your problem it other boats where people don’t turn off battery’s or are plugged into shore power running fridges , and other long term appliances, on my marina I wander around the boat yard and collect old zinc sand tie them on a wire and hang it over the marina behind my boat , in twenty two years of owning the same boat I have not noticed any corrosion apart from the norm but you will be right , some you have solar panels up the back returning power ,two of you using power on board is minimal, at night we have the tv on or DVD playing the odd movie ,led lights , and small thing charging we only bring the battery’s down to 90 percent , next day Ita all history ,panels take over back to a 100 , so keep going , ew Zealand weather is shit at prez but summer is coming

Wow, you're lucky. Here in Finland it's already so cold we had to get our sailboat out of water two days ago. Now it's about six months of waiting until the next time. Well, I guess I'll follow your journey in the meantime.

How do you paint the area that is in contact with the stilts when your boat is out of the water and you paint the bottom??
@JoshPostVlogs
@JoshPostVlogs Год назад
You can paint the area first near the stilt, then put up another stilt next to it. Then you can move the other to paint under it.

@@JoshPostVlogs Thanks. I see so many boats on the hard getting the bottoms done by folks like you, but they never show moving the stilts, just the finished product.
