@TheGooners11 Simply not true. Bobby's rise through the ranks was swift once he was given an opportunity to prove himself. Tony even says "you've been a top performer lately" while they're fishing and tenatively promotes him to underboss. That would not have happened if he was incompetent.

True. Remember when Tony mocked Bobby for what he was wearing when they had to go into the woods and save Paulie and Chris after they lost the Russian and spent a night almost freezing to death? Yeah, he looked a little like Elmer Fudd, but Bobby could have survived a week out there and Tony realized it was a smart way to dress.

I'm sure Janice filled in Bobby on plenty of juicy timbits about Tony's marriage, but it's one of those things - Tony's marriage is much older, and he is Bobby's boss, so he is(or feels like he is) entitled to give him a pep talk on the subject. It's just how humans are, it's not even condescending or anything, he knows Tony means well, and it's just making conversation.

Bobbys cadence and how he spoke was what really set him apart from the others. He knew how to speak with sense, picked his words and his delivery was how he earned his way up the chain here. One thing I love about these guys is how formal they are when talking about business. On a normal day it’s Tony’s office and they can all hangout playing pool and shoot the shit in here; but whenever Tony’s expecting someone for a meeting or whatever the back room of the Bing becomes a board meeting room all of a sudden. Greatest series ever. So much going on in this scene with everything Tony is dealing with in life, from his devotion to respect and love for his uncle, his contempt to his sister, his gradual building respect for Bobby as a devoted made guy. He knows it's Janice who he is really talking to about a promotion. Stressful.

Outside of Christopher, Tony definitely appreciated Bobby the most and did a lot for him. It’s easy to see why though, Bobby was easily one of the most agreeable people to work with in the entire crew. On top of that after the whole fight he even got a promotion. Tony definitely respected Bobby just not Janice.

He killed his own captains...sometimes personally...Ralphie, Christopher, Pussy (no choice on that one). Not to mention falling out with or not inspiring loyalty from Ritchie, Furio, Paulie, Carlo, Feech, etc.. Especially Carlo who he personally insulted several times.

Tony really grows to appreciate the way Bobby measures his words and deals with, what he knows, are the thankless and nightmarishly droll tasks in life so there's still decency. Tone's a lot more sensitive and impressionable than he is allowed to let on so he can recognize, subtly, others superior methods of dealing with what causes him such pain that leads to rage.

Bobby was the most decent stand-up person male or female on the entire series. Never bitched, just grinds and does what needed to be done. Thought with his head and heart not his ego. Treated others with respect even when they did not do likewise. He was a good solid guy and probably would’ve been better off in civilian life.

I love the consistent leadership style Tony shows. After every sit-down he makes sure to embrace his people as a secondary reinforcement. Obviously this can’t be down in the business world but I believe it boosts the subordinate’s commitment and loyalty.

Probably one of the only such meetings Tony ever held in the entire series that was straight-up, honest, and positive. All the rest were either screaming sessions, flase fronts before someone got whacked, or some other such scullduggery.

Janice and her scheming ways got Bobby killed. Karen was content with their station in life. If Bobby had stayed low profile in the family he would have survived the war, just like how he was a survivor of the season one war that took out junior’s crew. Believe it or not this scene exhibit a textbook example of how to engage an effective wage negotiation with an employer. Bobby stated his position outline the reasons for having that position and did so while retaining a great balance between being friendly but not familiar which is the Hallmark of how to cultivate effective professional relationships.
