The music industry hid the fact he was white so his albums would sell. I don't think it should matter. You can be purple for all I care. Music that moves you is what is important!
Sweet baby black Jesus! The first white singer to make me feel like he understood true black smoothness. Damn, this man need an honorary doctorate from the brotherhood! Imagine if Bobby and Bill Withers would have sung together. Rest in love Bobby.
@@reggrunow1460 Curb your justice fight without cause here man, I am mulato. Nothing in my comment above is racist rather I praise Bobby for showing the world that there are no boundaries in Music and consequently Soul. I will have you know that it is reckless to suggest my comment contains racism or that it is racist in nature. I have had the pleasure and opportunity to perform with different musicians from all around world in different genera. In which way would you have me to expand my music appreciation? Read the rest of the comments, most people had no Idea Bobby was Caucasian, heck even white people used to think he was black if they never saw him perform and only listened to his voice.
Listening to this song growing up as a child I could’ve sworn this was a black man 😂 It was in rotation with all the other black music that our parents played, so I was for sure this was just another black man. That’s crazy
Always thought he was, A Blk R & B Singer. He did that, from way back in the'80's. Remember My Mom playing this, at the Friday Nite, Adults Get to gether's. That's Real. 🕺🕺🕺
Here I am bringing in 2024 with Bobby Caldwell helping heal my heart. Thank You Bobby for Showing the world that one’s soul can transcend any barrier. You are loved, and you are missed 🙏
That's why the album cover is the first shot of the video. They didn't want people to know he was white. When he toured for the album people were like "WHAT?!"
I was lucky enough to see Bobby perform twice. I met him, chatted a while, had pics taken. Bobby was gracious and sweet. This song is a classic. Forever.
Finally, we get to see the face behind the voice. I'm sixty years old and this is my first time seeing his face. Unbelievable!!! love his voice love this song!!!❤❤❤
Only people who don't listen to this type of music on a regular wouldn't know, we the people of the ✊🏿✊🏿✊🏿✊🏿✊🏿 culture been rocking with the blue eyed soul. Rip Bobby!!!
The rhodes keys, the trumpets, the synthesizer, his voice, even the drums..the bass... the only way this song could've missed, was if nobody ever heard it.
Embrace differences, don’t bury them. It requires some naturally oriented morality but humanity is capable of being separate and equal but free. I don’t think we’re quite mature enough yet to appreciate the beauty behind the terms of liberty. But it’s a vision worth seeing.
forever - if its love passion it'll last forever..as long as there is someone to interpret it! will it still exist if there is no one to receive it? will a tree make a sound if falls on the ground and there is no on there to hear it?
The way he sit in the dark for the first 20 seconds , just letting everyone contemplate who he is... then BOOM, white man emerges with the biggest soul you ever seen a man of his stature ever have lmaoo. #legend .
Actually its for the album cover. Historically black artists in the 50s and early 60s had vague covers without their faces so companies could sell their products in white areas. Bobby's album was just the silouhette to sell in black communities because he sounded black but was white. A good example is Nat King Cole, he sings like a white guy (of the time), but is black.
@@dgtldead Yep, being on a majority black music label it was the suits who decided to market the album that way. I believe the name of the album (originally self-titled) was also changed to 'What You Won't Do For Love' after this song was a hit.
I’m a redhead with freckles. This song made feel good when I was 20 and still today. Sometimes I burst out singing it while doing my chores, especially gardening. Bless him.
The bassline is immortal. It’ll keep groovin long past the heat death of the universe. What a shame that he’s passed on now. I’ll probably revisit this track periodically for the rest of my life.
I’ve known Mr Caldwell is not black for 30 yrs… I really can’t believe that people are so one sided that they think only black folks can sing like that. Anyone of any race can sing like that if their voice is as such. Come on folks ❤❤❤
I'm 39 years old and always knew he was white as a kid. People act like we didn't have TVs back then. 🤦🏾♀️ Back then, we didn’t care about color. So it wasn't a big deal to us. 🤷🏽♀️ Just another great music artist ❤
Thank you we had the jukebox that later became the box and soul train and Friday night music video countdown on TV.. seen this video when it first come out it started in rotation and stayed there for about two years in 80-82.. and his face was on the cover of the single not the album that was later released
Rest in Peace. Bobby was ahead of his time. He played guitar for Little Richard and wrote several songs for other musicians. Much respect brother. He's jamming out right now with Prince and Aretha ❤️
Seriously, who's ever idea was it to just jump out of the shadow like that is sheer genius! If it was Caldwell, he's beyond.🙌🏾 And he did every instrument!
My mom had his record it was played on Saturdays it was so loud I could hear it outside when I was swinging. I was 5 then listening ELO, The BeeGees , Disco 😂 George Benson, AL Green , Kc and the sunshine band and more. Good memories 😊😢
Because we saw him on soul train we knew his ethnicity or nationality. But because he has a great voice and a lot of black folks love good vocals, and a nice jazz beat in the background, he was all right with us!
R.I.P Bobby Caldwell. Love this song ❤️ your legacy will live on. This song will be sampled for years to come. Thanking God for no more pain and suffering 🙏🏾🙏🏾
@@Care960 I'm pretty sure Robert sung this song to someone very special. But this is the part my mother used to sing to me in the car. This is why I love it. #RipMommy

August 15, 1951-March 15, 2023 R.I.P. to the sweet R&B/Jazz voice, gone after a 6+ year illness. Always loved this tune as it takes you right back to when it came out, but never gets old. Celebrate Bobby's life by just listening to his legacy through the years. Very underrated IMO.
I read where he had been in decline after having a severe reaction to a group of antibiotics (fluoroquinolones), Levaquin, Cipro and Avelox, used to treat bacterial infections. The FDA continues to approve the use of these antibiotics, despite the dangers of tendon rupture and damage to the nervous system, stating the benefits outweigh the disadvantages. I am the same age as Mr. Caldwell was, have taken Levaquin before, but won't take it again. God rest his soul. He had one of a kind voice.
Music truly comes from one’s Soul. Bobby’s style and groove transcends the boundaries applied by society. It kind of reminds me of Charlie Pride back in the day. White folks, even racist ones didn’t know Charlie was a Black man and it didn’t matter, he was special…. And so was Bobby Caldwell. What a gem.
after I got married in '93, I heard this song again, and immediately thought of my wife. This is my song about her - 30 years later...it's still..."In my world, only you..." #marriageisreal
Out of nowhere last night I started singing this song. It was one of my favorites. Imagine my surprise and sadness when I heard that Bobby Caldwell had passed yesterday. His spirit paid me and everyone of his fans a visit yesterday. May he rest in power among the angels.
I think that was the case too with me.....because it was either the same day or the day before his passing this song was in my head.....it's one of my absolute faves but something hit different that day. Today (first day of Spring 2023) I heard the song for the first time all the way through since his passing......tears was slowly rolling down my face.....he left us with timeless music....
@Veronica Gonzalez, Weird I had this music pop up in my head and then I searched the video and saw the comments and everyone is giving their condolences, Weird 😱
