As I listen to this for the hundredth time, for some reason I'm teary-eyed. That indescribable voice, so pure, so ethereal. It's so hard to accept that he's gone, even after almost 18 years. Love you, Bobby.

Had never heard Bobby sing this one before now, Chad. His choice of presentation absolutely focused on the message, the power of faith, his emotions rather than displaying what his voice could do. I was nervous at first, because he opened with his falsetto in such a tight Whisper, as I had never heard b him use before... so I was (foolishly) wondering how he could deliver the rest of the notes. Then I remembered the easy confidence this man always had in his God given abilities...so I relaxed and listened. Chad, Bobby was accurately ACUTELY expressing the pain of many who feel trapped by the ugliness in life. That was the POINT! In 1968 there was the additional grief of the Vietnam war... thousands of young couples were separated by that war's DRAFT. Many soldiers would never come home - or returned very badly wounded in body and/or soul. The agony of a wounded young couple's efforts to build a world together, with so much going against them (including, public opinion) is palpable in this song. Then Bobby opens up his deep chest tones and we can breathe with renewed joy and hope. The way he hits the final notes in this particular song is not heavenly mysticism (Unchained Melody), or an explosive triumph of celebration (Ebb Tide) no....he expresses the deliberate confidence of the man's insistence: that he WILL find - and make - that beautiful, safe place for his beloved....even if he does not quite know how he's going to do it!!!! An Astounding interpretive study of a song told through his musical and personal gifts: a responsible man's confidence in providing a world for their special love. Chad - Bobby Hatfield was first of all a very good man: a man of good heart, good cheer and determination to present the best version of a song that that he possibly could with his considerable gifts. His masculinity is never confused, nor vulgar- his tenderness and respectful strength are always conveyed because he did not separate who he was from his musical work. This is the most detailed response I ever provided online, but it was a first time listen for me... Thank you, thank you, thank YOU for your sharing! I am 70 year old lady now - but this music is timeless.

Bobby had such a beautiful voice that he could sing any song and make it his. I'm so glad to have grown up in the 60's when they came out. I still play their greatest hits CD in my car. RIP Bobby! We miss hearing your beautiful voice! ❤️❤️❤️

janetgallo5720 Bobby was a tenor/counter tenor. If you want to do a comparison to a female singer, actually his range was soprano, off the charts, he could perhaps do all the keys on piano. If you would like check the video by wings of Pegasus, did an analysis on Bobby singing unchained melody, performance done live on Andy Williams show 1965.

You really appreciate this music.Youfeel the music like we did .I was young but Bobby Hatfield was legendary NO one will ever have his voice. It was solid gold. But in the same sense The Righteous Bros together singing were pure magic. BILL'S baritone voice was alot to appreciate also. He did solos also one that was written just for him is BROWN EYED WOMAN I think you'll really enjoy it. They both had so many solos and duets together it was just so much talent in two amazing men.

Great reaction once again !! Bobby Hatfield performs each song to utter perfection. He has a way of transporting us to a place beyond our imagination. This song, as I recall the 60's first appeared in the movie, West Side Story and the music and songs were done by Johnny Mathis, who is also wonderful. So happy you keep searching out Bobby's songs--you will never be disappointed. Thanks again. Cathy

sherigrow6480 absolutely his rendition of that song was beautiful. Know that is was a live performance, it would have been nice to hear it without the background noise, that's okay too. Any song that Bobby sang he did put his own "spin" on it. He is dearly missed.

In the 1957 Broadway Musical of Westside Story. Jimmy Bryant played Tony and sung the song "Somewhere." In 1960 the movie Westside Story directed by Robert Wise had Jimmy Bryant dubbing his voice in all the musical numbers for actor Richrd Beymer who played Tony in the 1960 film. His "Somewhere" was beautiful. Bobby Hatfield's rendition is just simply gorgeous and heavenly beautiful. Breathless!

"Somewhere" was from the play/movie West Side Story" which was a modern spin on "Romeo and Juliet". (Which was about about two young people who were from two families that were "at war" with each other). When my husband and I got married in 1976 we were from such different backgrounds (Canadian , Russian Jewish/ Oklahoma Southern Baptist) that we had this song sung at our wedding! It seemed very appropriate.

I finally subscribed to a reactors channel...you. You feel & appreciate these Righteous Brothers voices & songs plus other artists too. So many great ones they sang like "Let It Be" and the Ed Sullivan show video where the Righteous Bros. sing "You'll Never Walk Alone" & the R.B. sang another great song on that show too. Other artists songs you'd like are Jerry Butler song "Your Precious Love" and Jackie Wilson's "Danny Boy". I watched Wilson's b/w video from 1958 wondering how he'd sing this old 106 yr old Irish song about a mother having to say goodbye as her son Danny as went off to WW1. OMG...what a Jackie Wilson emotional performance. His voice is pure amazing.

My favorite song from the West Side Story soundtrack sung by my favorite singer. If someone set the phone book to a pretty tune and Bobby Hatfield sang it I'd feel like I was being serenaded. I actually have a playlist of Bobby ballads for when I'm in the mood. He does an awesome version of the old standard My Prayer. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-azyIk7s5Kho.html Also, I Love You for Sentimental Reasons ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-IwH39TmE7rw.html He was so versatile, too. I see that you've already reacted to Bobby pouring his heart and soul out on Stay With Me. I can't listen to that one often because it just guts me. You reacted to the humorous version of What'd I Say Bobby and Bill did with Andy Williams, but the studio version is definitely worth a listen. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-0v6tpJA_G4k.html

jodevrries5801 Summertime was originally sung by Ella Fitzgerald, in the 40's. That is one of her classic songs, one of many. Bobby did put his own spin on this classic, even added to it. That song does show his operatic octaves, he was a counter tenor. His range of octaves cannot be matched to this day, without using the autotune feature.

i know this is a beautiful piece. I hear that painful longing in his voice, and it's personal to him. Sometimes it's really hard for me to listen to. I know where he was at, and sense it deeply in every note he sings. He found that place though, with my heavenly Father. Bet alot didn't know that. But i know. He is safe and sound, shining youthful as ever. We're good.

Are you familiar with Mickey Newbury ? He was a songwriter and singer whose work was covered by many others. His “American Trilogy” has been sung by a wide range of artists. Another is the quirky “I Just Dropped In to See What Condition Was In”. Yet another is “Sweet Memories”. My special favorite is “Cortelia Clark” , a semi- biographical song about his getting to know an early blues icon. Go to RU-vid search and enter Mickey Newbury, Cortelia Clark.
