This week Katie welcomes muscle car collector Tim Wellborn to PowerNation along with just one of his many prized cars; this 1969 Dodge Daytona that Bobby Isaac raced in. It was one of the cars that helped him win the 1970 NASCAR Grand National championship with. Isaac held the record at 201.104 MPH for years until Bill Elliot broke it. Isaac and famed NASCAR crew chief Harry Hyde took the car to the Bonneville Salt Flats in 1971 and set 28 records! His top speed was 240 MPH. This car has some history! Tim is the owner of the Wellborn Musclecar Museum in Alexander City, Alabama which contains over 45 muscle cars from the ’69 to ’71 period; the cream of the crop. It’s one gorgeous collection that you should check out, for details visit www.WellbornMusclecarMuseum.com

Bring them back! There are enough remanufactured replacement parts to have a fully supported classic stock car circuit.

MOPARS -give it to Dodge & Plymouth to create these land jets. I've always love those winged cars, funny looking back then and funny now collectors pay 6 figure to have them . back then the dealers couldn't even sell them cause of the looks. the proof was at the track running 200mph. R.I.P. Bobby Issac.

Love the history on these cars, just one of many of the ways the car company's tried to beat their competition.

One of the most infamous NASCAR cars ever made. The very rare Daytona 1969 Charger was no joke, even to this day. 0.28 drag coefficient out of an old boxy muscle car? Come on!

do you realize that Cd (drag) has NOTHING to do with race speed. These cars were terrible......yea, a bullet shape goes through the air pretty good.....but a car has to stay on the ground.......that pointed nose cause ride height issues and overheating.........the First real race the Fords creamed these and next race was even worse at Rockingham in 1969 where the closest Daytona was 20 laps down........they only won a total of 6 races and of those 6 one was the First Talladega, which was not a real race and another was the 2nd 125 at Daytona in 1970 after France put all of the factory Fords in the first 125 to prevent a Ford blowout.

@ 0:45 not an 66 Charger.

First '68 Charger they show IS a Ray Fox Racing # 3 , another at 1: 15 is a Charger 500 of 1969. His son Jr's name is on list of crewmen on DAYTONA # 77 of K+K, at sides of tail stripe.

At 0:45 the image they show when he talks about a 66 charger is actually a 66 coronet not a charger…wrong car shown

lol with alll respect Tim lives in alternate reality.......the Reality is that in 1970 Bobby Isaac got NO wins in the Daytona...........in fact he only finished on the lead lap 3 times in the Daytona............those three races were the 1st 125 at Daytona and both Talladega events...........thats it only 3 Lead Lap finishes.

The rules stated 358 cubic inches if you can an "AERO" car. And we still use that rule today in NASCAR.
@davidthayer6969
@davidthayer6969 2 года назад
nope rules were 305 inches for any aerocar and no it is not used today.
