Hey Mark, My, Bobcat 773 caught fire setting in the driveway... I look out from my sink one morning and see the flames engulfing it. The fire seems to have started around the battery!... I am removing the motor tomorrow(2-24-20). I will be following your channel!! Thanks a lot!
Good Morning Semocase, my hope is that we all can learn through this process. The fire in my machine was pretty extensive and I am finally back at it and will get some new footage up soon. I tore down the Turbo and cleaned it back up. will be trying to start the engine soon to make sure everything sounds right before moving forward. Have a great day and stay tuned... Be Blessed!
lol Thanks Jeremy, Bravery and ignorance are sometimes confused maybe........nah...lol have a great day! and the 863 will make you a great winter project.
This has been really helpful, I just bought a burned Bobcat 873 as well, Ill most likely do some videos too. Do you know where your fire started? alot of people seem to think the turbo is a problem, what are your thoughts?
Dirk I appreciate your kind words Brother. The fire appears to have started in that general area, and it did alot of damage, I will be be doing more videos with the machine as well. I hope they can be of some help as well!
Hey there Grampa Badger, Having the rear wheels off made it easier to get the fuel tank hold down brackets out. As for the Hoses, its just a combination of getting at them from every angle possible....cab up.......side covers off......Patience and a few obscene words.......:)
1) Did you have to raise the arms or cab to do the engine removal? 2) Where did you get the tank? That doesn't look half as bad as my burn, I'll be replacing all wire harnesses. Any leads on parts? eBay is pretty expensive. 3-500 for a harness.
I did not have to raise the arms, but I did have the cab tilted up while getting to some of the things near the rear of the engine. There are 2 bolts in the front of the cab that once removed will allow you to tilt the cab back and it will lock in place. mine has hydraulic rams like on a car hood to help in lifting,,,,although mine are wore out....lol I bought my fuel tank through Bobcat Of Omaha, but any dealer should be able to get that for you. If you get on the Bobcat website you will find that if you enter your serial number you can find your part numbers. As far as your wiring you will find a disconnect plug under the cab once you have it lifted up. If you have any more questions or need more specific info just let me know. Have a Great Monday!!!
One last question, what size are the bolts holding in the tank, I had a 24mm socket, with me when I went to pull one, but its much larger than that. thanks Mark!
@@SlimyGreenGarage I was using a 1/2" breaker bar with that 1-1/8 socket and broke the craftsman breaker bar. they're sending me a new one, but I cant believe how tough they are on. I'm having the junkyard remove tomorrow or monday
How did you remove and replace the fuel tank. My problem is the fuel gauge dropped into the tank on my 453 (yes he is an old guy), and I just want to know if there are any pit falls to avoid. Being an old Marine, I know the best way to survive an ambush is to avoid them. I am having a difficult time finding information on my 40 year old machine.
The engine had to be removed out of my 873 to access the fuel tank...its a big job but doable:) snap a few pictures of important areas before you start to give you reference points when putting it back together and God Bless!
Thanx for the tips! So let me be clear on this: To remove the fuel tank you have to first remove the engine. Talk about design and engineering! Anyway, how long did it take you to remove the engine? Any tips on how to clean all the debris out of the fuel tank that keeps clogging the pickup strainer?
It probably took me a couple days to get the engine out not working overly hard. My best tips would be to be patient...lol make good use of a little heat for stuck coupler connections and as far as keeping the tank clean I would say that it goes back to good maintenance, keeping the machine clean and using a screened funnel when fueling it up...thanks for the question and God Bless.....You Can Do It!!
Yes sir there is no way to get the tank out without removing the engine. You may also want to contact a bobcat dealer to make sure you can even get a new fuel tank for that model now.....
