Bobcat loaders equipped with the Deutz engine has a timing belt that should be changed every 3000 hours or every 5 years. The Deutz engine is an interference engine and if the timing belt breaks then the engine can suffer internal damage.

I ran across this article after viewing this video To time the crankshaft correctly, first, remove the fuel injector closest to the front of the engine. Now rotate the engine, by hand, until this front cylinder piston is at top dead center. Caution: be care full not to find TDC on the #1 cylinder. The #1 cylinder is located closest to the rear of the engine. You must find TDC on the front cylinder only (the cylinder closest to the front crankshaft pulley.) Is that the reverse of what you said.. I have just purchased a 863 1999 year and an interested.

This ruined Deutz reputation .. I had a few JLG and machines break belts . Yet the old Deutz ran forever gear drive cams. I also had one Deutz run away from fuel in oil due to leaking fuel lift pump diaphragm . Watch for oil level rising or it will run away spewing oil like a geyser throw a rod from high rpm . Excellent video 👍

@tetradgroup

Usually the thermostat is to blame if the cooler has good internal flow and the cooling fins are clean and in good condition. Sometimes the hydraulic system can be building heat making it harder for the engine to cool.

Best camera shots I have seen for what I would consider one of the hardest machines to film (or work) on due to spacing. My job did not go well. I got the tools and did the work but it looks like I bent the fuel rack. I have investigated how to remove that but have not started as I don't know what bent the rack. The unknown I have is that right near (in the way) of the belt tensioning tool, there is a multifaceted set screw/bolt aperatus 'linked' to an stud with a nut on it by a claw. When I got my cover off the lower adjusting/set aperatus (the whole thing, not just the set screw) was four turns out from the cover/block and the claw was broken in half (both arms still in position). I tried to put it back as it was but hard to tell given it was partually detached. What is this and adjuster for and could it have damaged my rack in not adjusted properly? It was running fine prior to timming belt replacement. It runs now, but only a poor idle, throttle movement does not change RPM. Rack does not move from inspection hole. Checked timing with method from service manual and I am at one turn, inside the 3/4 to 2.5 turns specified. Help?

Thanks for a great video, but I dont have the confidence to do the engine belt. How long does it take the dealer to do this belt? The only real trouble that I have had is the small rubber return lines. The one that you get at the dealerships are not what they used to be. They leak quickly and I had to replace many times. I ordered new lines from a injection company that the rubber was thicker and had more protection on the outside. I haven't had to replace these little lines since, and they are also less expensive than the dealer. Thanks for the info about the engine belt.

@tetradgroup
@tetradgroup 2 года назад
The fuel rack can be bent if someone tried to install injection pumps without pinning the rack and pumps first. I've also seen the governor weights damaged and will not allow the rack to move unless forced. A pump could also be sticking not allowing the governor to control the rack.

Given its condition, I am guessing it was not ever done. Given it took you under an hour for this service, it is probably not too expensive of job for the dealer to perform, I just wanted to get an idea of its condition to see if I should be doing this sooner than later. Looking for future videos on this engine! The previous owner of my machine bypassed its fuel filter, probably a indication I need to replace that fuel pump, plus my oil looked a little high...

Hi, just wondering if you can share why the Cam pulley has to be loosened and adjusted? Belt wear? Thank-you so much!
@tetradgroup
@tetradgroup 2 года назад
When tightening the belt tensioner you want to loosen the cam pulley so the belt is not pulling the cam in one direction or the other. If you don't loosen the cam pulley when tightening the belt, the cam could move when you pull the pins. Just helps keep everything perfectly in time. Hope that makes sense.

Great Video! I Just bought a 03 T200 With 3800 hours so any content about the Deutz is great! I recently replaced a final drive so the machine sat for about 2 months while waiting for parts and time to complete the job. It ran fine when when parked but now it cranks for a few seconds than stops. It Throws the code 22-03. The machine sat over night and tried it again now it throws the 22-03 and 04-22 any suggestions on a path of diagnosis?
@tetradgroup
@tetradgroup 2 года назад
04-22 is engine oil pressure out of range, 22-03 is starter error off. There are two small wire terminals on the starter, the one closest to the rear door is the return signal the controller is looking for. I would check that wire first. Then probably try a new starter relay. Also check the RPM sensor in the bell housing and make sure it's not damaged.
