I think the pressure in Asian cultures to be petite is much bigger than in Western culture. Whenever I talk with Asian girls they always say the same. She's beautiful and she deserves to feel special.

What a fun appointment! Personally, I liked dress # 2 on her better, but she chose best for her. She is just "normal size" for most of the world, or even on the small side. Hope they had a wonderful wedding - she looked beautiful.

About the plus size idea. She is saying that in the part of Asia that she is from, most of the shops cater to sizes much much smaller. So this makes her plus size compared to most of the other shoppers. I went to high school with mostly Asians in my classes. I am not Asian, and I felt sooooo big compared to my classmates. When I moved to Vermont, I felt so small compared to everyone. So in the US and UK, she is not plus-sized, she's just a beautiful curvy woman.

I just wanted to cry when Mee was bringing herself down on her beautiful figure and as for the other shops...shame on them for not catering to any beautiful girl that not tiny like the Asian norm. Mee, you are a beautiful young woman with a gorgeous real figure, healthy figure and never let anyone tell you otherwise. I'm not sure what country she lives in, but I think what they consider heavy there, we would consider only a small bit more than average. Everything about this made me happy 😊 She looked amazing in all 3 dresses. I do wish there was a dress with the shape of dress 2 (her butt looked amazing) and the top/neckline of dress 3 (with the lace panel taken out) But she had no wrong answer with any of those dresses.

uk size 12 = 36" bust. that shouldn't be considered heavy anywhere!! she's adorable, and her guy is hilarious!! hoping they have a long, happy marriage.

Yeah unfortunately sizes 12 and up are considered plus size. I understand the frustration because I’m the same. However, I think her shape is cute.

Italy was the same. Every store was size 4-8. Size 10 was rare. 12 and above was non-existent. Many Italians and Asians tend to be shorter and more petite which is why their sizing runs small. Height and skeletal structure make a HUGE difference to size and weight. Two people can have the same BMI & body measurement ratios but be completely different sizes based on their build. I think this is why US/UK sizing tends to be larger. Westerners tend to be taller, broader and just bigger-boned in general than some other populations. This is true of both the men and the women. My friend is a size 10 but she is 6ft tall and weighs only 60kgs so she is literally skin and bones. My other friend is the exact same size as this borderline anorexic friend (size 10) but this girl is very short and weighs 80kgs so she is actually quite overweight. I weigh less than her but I am a size 14 because I am over a foot taller. I'm two sizes bigger than her but I weigh less and my measurements are smaller. Don't even get me started on what muscle mass does to the scales vs dress size! Bottom line.... dress size & scales mean absolutely nothing unless you have context. Unfortunately, this fact is rarely discussed. Which is why so many young men and women place value on these arbitrary sizes/weights that are deemed "ideal" yet they are actually making assumptions based on a numbers that they often don't even understand.

Is there a three dress limit? Give her another dress or two to try on in different fabrics and then let her choose which one she wants. I think they were all too lacy and old looking. Perhaps a plainer, less lacy design would have given her the feeling she was looking for.

It drives me crazy that they call size 12-14 plus size. I once wore a 20 after I quit smoking years ago. Then I got down to a 14. I was thrilled at my size. But still a plus size according to “them”. Now I’m a 10 but sometimes wear a 12 depending on the item of clothing and who makes it. Sizes In clothes are a joke. When I was growing up there was no size 0. If you feel beautiful then that’s all that matters. Why was her fiancé there to see the dress? Maybe they decided not to have a surprise. Hope they are happy forever. ❤

Despite not being Asian, I understand the struggle being just shy of 5'0 the average height of that culture. While not plus size in the "American" sense of the word, I can see how she would define herself that way in Asian culture. For health reasons, she would be the same as someone of average height in the usa being 150-200 pounds. So it depends on if you consider that plus size or not. Going strictly by numbers as someone who also finds that short life hard sometimes.

I so relate to this, I was so fat shamed in an Asian - Chinese red dress, said it was very hard to fit my size, at that time I was a 10, which is so over weight in Asian society term. Sad isn’t it, mom and family always called me fat even when I was a size 6… oh well.
