I don't know if it was the name as much as it was Santino trivializing him by repeating Winston's words to walk away. I got the vibe throughout the movie that Winston despised the arrogance of Santino, so there was definitely some catharsis about seeing his arrogance be the end of him. Though it was definitely in conflict with his role as the manager of the Continental, so he had to hold impartiality.

It’s interesting to note that when Santino entered the lounge it was full of people but when John enters it’s nearly empty. The transition only implies a few minutes. Did Winston subtly make sure everyone left the lounge so that he could reduce collateral damage?

Quite frankly I didn't see any collateral damage when John was shooting up the night club with people packed in like sardines!
@thelastroman7791
@thelastroman7791 3 года назад
@@TheWabbit That was different, John went to the Red Circle nightclub to get personal revenge. Winston would obviously worry about the welfare of his patrons and probably knew that John was coming to get Santino. So he would have a vested interest in keeping his clients safe.
@TheWabbit
@TheWabbit 3 года назад
@@thelastroman7791 Second thoughts is there is truth to that, I believe it would be Winston worrying about Santino possible taking a hostage ( not a bad shot by John ) and also less witnesses for the killing. My initial thoughts were on John Wick only and thats a flawed thought!
@thelastroman7791
@thelastroman7791 3 года назад
@@TheWabbit No need to worry dude. It’s not about who’s ‘right’ but just a sharing of opinions. Like most movies, we have to infer what certain scenes mean or what they are meant to convey. I believe that the first scene of any new character is the most important scene. Especially the first scene of the main character, which is always the most important scene of any movie. So it’s really about what we as the audience think and a good director can leave some ambiguity for us to chew on in the end.

@@richardmorris8902 Winston made an even more grave mistake: Don't cross John Wick. And if you do plan to cross John Wick, make sure you blow his head off with the first shot, or else you will never get another chance to take him by surprise. John Wick Part 4 is going to be intense, and I look forward to seeing the rest of the High Table, the Man Above the Table, Winston, and the Adjudicator all die screaming and in pain for playing like they own him.
@DaHuntsman1
@DaHuntsman1 3 года назад
@@Foxxie0kun I don't think so. If Winston wanted John Wick dead, JW would have been dead the instant he shot Santino. I believe Winston is playing the long game and is using JW as a blunt object, with the events of JW2 opening up a seat on the high table, and JW3 being the opening shots of a war between the New York Continental vs the High Table, Winston was able to see just the kind of resources the High Table were able to bring, and thus by the end of JW3 he knew he couldn't continue fighting this war. So he "sacrifices" JW (really, Winston had the element of complete surprise and could have headshotted John at that range quite easily) to prove to the Adjudicator his "loyalty", but then doesn't send anyone to check and make sure JW died, allowing John to escape, again.
@joeldykman7591
@joeldykman7591 3 года назад
The end of Parabellum was Winston making the best move he had available, he may not have able to know the fall from the continental would kill John or not, but he definitely didn't do his due diligence which he knew would be needed for a man like John Wick. He hoped that John survived, and more importantly, that John knew that he never intended to actually kill him, just to pretend to- but he had to make it look real.

The finger on the trigger is a movie trick. You're correct saying that he wouldn't put his finger on the trigger if he didn't want to kill Santino, so the fact that he did put the finger indicated for the audience that he was going to kill. The thing is, a trained shooter wouldn't put a finger on the trigger anyway - not before he rises the gun and aims. This is a security rule and Jon broke it here (which he don't do in other moments).
@kevinfox500
@kevinfox500 Год назад
My thoughts on it as well. Finger never engages the trigger until the weapon is raised, safety, if applicable is off, a d a sight picture has been acquired. Under modern training. Old way was fonger inside the guard, pressed to the front of the trigger guard. This went out of fashion woth the Cup and Saucer, hand rest pistol hold. Seen in films like the Dirty Harry series, and TV shows like Hunter and Barney Miller.

I honestly can't wait for John Wick 4 and seeing how many of the High Table he kills alongside Winston and the Adjudicator from 3. If the Continental had made one exception for the slaying of Santino, the series could have ended with everyone going their separate ways as usual. Instead, 3 happened, 4 is going to happen, and after the events of Part 3, Winston, the Adjudicator, the High Table, and the mysterious Man Above the Table will all die screaming and in pain for crossing John Wick.

My only gripe is how short these videos are. The content is far to interesting and well presented that a 5 minute video could never satiate my desire to keep consuming more

Haha, I make them short as to be able to cover numerous films quickly. I want to cover nearly every key scene in every famous movie XD It takes a long time to make these even though they are short.

The acting all round was great, esp the facial expressions of Charon when he looked in John's eyes. But the moment that stood to me was the smirk of both expression and voice when Santino said "Yeah Johnathon". Like, dude, what are you, 5 years old? did you just tattletale on him to the teacher? S: *Tattles to Teacher that John won't share his Gameboy with him* T: John, let Santino share your Gameboy" S: (Bratty smug tone) "Yeah John, share your Gameboy" *John bashes Santino's skull with it* J: "I shared it"

the finger on the trigger showing he intends to use it isn’t really legit. it doesn’t mean, only put your finger on the trigger if you know you’re going to shoot, it means literally keep your finger off of the trigger until you are aiming at the target you intend to shoot. it’s called trigger finger discipline. or booger hook discipline for the uninitiated

I wish there was just a bit more of an analysis of Santino here. How smug he was right up to when John shoots him. I'm not an expert, but I could tell he didn't believe John would do anything inside the Continental. He didn't think John would break the rules. He must have felt that with the manager present, he was completely out of John's reach. Little did he know that vengeful fury can be far stronger than the rational mind. He felt untouchable with his stolen Seat at The Table, until John escaped, and nearly eliminated, the hit squad he'd prepared. He felt untouchable when he put out the bounty, until John came calling. He felt untouchable eating, unbeknownst to him, his last meal. He felt safe as he repeated the words of the manager, probably right up to the point John pointed the pistol at his head. He had but a split second to realize that he was not untouchable just because the manager was begging John to stay his vengeful hand. I *love* the smug way he acted to his last moments. How quickly his facade of invulnerability crumbled the moment he was in any danger. Santino had ambition that far outstripped his worthiness. He wanted a Seat at The Table, but had no ability to ever understand what it meant to have such a Seat of power. I believe arrogance can be earned. If you can talk the talk, but back it up, by walking the walk, it's okay by me to feel that confident in yourself. If you can step back when your power, skill, or whatever is challenged, and realize there might be someone at least nearly as good, and then admit it aloud to that very person, even in front of others, then you can be as arrogant as you feel is necessary to let others know you're not lacking in confidence in regards to your abilities. Santino was arrogant, foolishly thinking himself to be a chessmaster who could never fail by virtue of, well, existing as himself. The moments where he's challenged shows just how fragile his position is, and yet he never really realized that betraying the person that gives you your power is a path leading directly to a punishing defeat.

Santino was counting on John not shooting him in the Continental, which of course meant that he didn't understand John at all. I wonder what the fall out would be of the Camorra Family losing both their heirs in one night? 🤔

Do you think the film director and actors put this much effort into these nuances? I never noticed the finger on the trigger, the smile after Santino was shot... incredible if they planned all of this out.
