Hi everyone, here is another in depth video showing all the stages of a bodyline crease dent on the front wing/fender of a Mercedes E220 AMG - Line. This was a very difficult panel to repair as it was made from Aluminium or Aluminum (USA & Canada). I find this metal VERY challenging as it takes a lot more force and effort to get it to move back into place than regular mild steel. In the mid-point of the video I explain some basic facts about Aluminium. Enjoy!

@@frogmanvc Hi Izzy, I think in PDR everyone does things differently but ends up with the same result, I was a panel beater first so I apply more panel beating/metal working techniques to my work, I don't use blending hammers much and I attack crowns slightly differently to what I see other people do, so I stick with what works for me. I don't pretend to be the best in this field, I still have a lot to learn especially as the metal used on vehicles is evolving too. I think some techs worry too much in what order things should be done, I always experiment, sometimes it doesn't work and other times it does. Thanks for posting my video:-)

@@frogmanvc When I use a slapping spoon or blending hammer it is hard to see the metal moving. With a tap down it moves faster but it can make small marks so I tend to glide it evenly across the panel to prevent this from happening. Everyone has their own methods:-)

@@frogmanvc Sorry i meant that I keep it upright, I just move it quickly across the panel so that the pressure it not focused too much in one area, leaving too many small indentations.

Yes everyone says, "it Aluminium so it will push out easy" I think they think of Aluminium drinks cans and sandwich foil, but as you know, it's completely different:-)

Hi Jake! Very informative video sir. I have an F-150 Ford truck with all aluminum body. Nice to know that aluminum is more difficult to work with and takes lots of patience. I have a very small dent in the right door and will use your techniques. Thank you.

Thanks Reuben! Sorry to hear of your injury, I too have had quite a year with injury. This is a great trade to be in although it is also very physical and puts a lot of force through your neck, back and shoulders depending on the type of damage you are working on:-)

It's not magic, it's just years and years of doing the same repairs over and over again, I can almost switch off and go on auto pilot on some of the smaller, easier ones!

It's a magical thing you PDR guys do. Seen it with my own eyes when my dustbin got blown over onto the wing of my MR2 leaving a dent the size of a gold ball, guy came round with his tools and boom within no time at all you could not even tell there was any damage. OK so it ain't exactly magic as you say but your skills are evident and the video content is great.

Thanks, Aluminium is not an easy metal to work with, I found it very hard to Tig weld Aluminium when I first did it, as it heats up very quickly!

Can you pdr a dented plastic bumper? Not sure I've seen videos on this type of dent on plastic bumpers. You have the best informative videos out there for pdr.

Thanks Mike! Plastic is probably more unpredictable than Aluminium as a material. I don't really carry out any plastic bumper repairs, I only specialise in dents in metal. Some large dents in plastic can pop out but they sometimes leave micro cracks in the paint surface and lumps around the perimeter of the dent that wont push back down with PDR tools. Most of the time when trying to remove dents in plastic the paint will get damaged so will need painting anyway:-)

the only thing I think would be more helpful on these videos is the technical name and description for the tools being used; at least for me anyway. That way if I wanted to by that specific tool I would know the length, diameter etc. great videos!

Difficult one to answer, probably an Ultra Dent double bend tool with a set of tips, I think it's listed in my last video description as I used that tool for the whole repair on that last video:-)

You just know how hot to heat the panel from experience. You don't get it too hot, only as hot as the paint would get on a very sunny day (slightly hot to the touch) and on those days I don't heat the panel at all as it is hot enough just from the heat of the sun, although in the UK, those days are rare 🤣

@@JRH087 You're welcome. Maybe practice on a scrap panel first before starting on your own car so that you don't make any expensive mistakes, a hood/bonnet is always a good practice panel. 👍

@@1st_track_dents yes I have done quite a bit of panel beating in the past but only used hammer and dolly sets, and slide hammers by drilling and then the old filler and paint method, I know thats never as good as pdr so I'm keen to get a scrap door and some pdr tools and start practicing, I'd love to be able to do this for a living but I get the impression that you've done this years and are seriously professional, so I am doubtful my skills will ever match up to yours

@@JRH087 Everyone picks it up at different speeds, although as you have a panel beating background that will help you massively as that is what I did for a living and it really helps when you understand the physics of how metal moves. If you put the hours in, I don't see why you couldn't do it for a living. Good luck 👍

It depends as most rear quarter panels are double skinned and the arch section would be very difficult to get access to. If you have any photos of this damage you can e-mail them to me and I can let you know if it would be possible:-)

I can tell before I start a job if it is stretched or not, so wouldn't take it on, sometimes the dent almost stretches but there are some techniques we can use to bring it back:-)

I don't measure the temperature, I just get the panel as hot as it would get on a nice summers day, hot enough so that I can put my hand on the panel still:-)
