Beautiful approach and short landing by Boeing test pilots after amazing flying display. Very impressive and gorgeous airplane ! I hope this aircraft will have a big long future.
This 4K footage was filmed during the hottest day in Great Britain in July 2022 at Farnborough international airshow. Soon after she landed my camera stopped filming due to overheating. I was a little bit lucky to capture this moment.
Boeing created the folding mechanism that reduces the wingspan to 212 feet and 9 inches - the length of the 777's wings. This allows the 777X to fit into gates capable of fitting the current 777 models.
The Boeing 777X is the latest series of the long-range, wide-body, twin-engine jetliners in the Boeing 777 family from Boeing Commercial Airplanes. The 777X features new GE9X engines, new composite wings with folding wingtips, greater cabin width and seating capacity, and technologies from the Boeing 787.

When I started my aerospace career in 1990 the 777-300 was the first airplane I worked on. The -200 was already in the detail design phase and my organization was working on the “stretch” -300. We had a folding wingtip designed and approved at that time to satisfy Bob Crandall, then CEO of American Airlines. He made such a stink about the wingspan and his existing gates that he didn’t want to modify that the folding tip was designed. Ultimately it wasn’t used but we did size the wing to fit a 200 foot gate. The span? 199’ 11”. 😁
@harry4454

For this plane why would such a long wing span be better than a normal? It looks like only a couple ft altogether, is it really that beneficial? Thanks :)
@PattyKuluCakes
@PattyKuluCakes Год назад
@@harry4454 the folding wingtips look small, but actually each wingtip is about 11.5 feet tall/long. According to Boeing, the longer wingtips allow the jet to generate more lift which increases efficiency by reducing fuel burn by about 10%.

@@i95smuggler the wing tips creates a wing length that is 7m longer than that on the 777-300er. With the greater surface area provided by the folding wing tips, the 777x offers more flexibility to operators in comparison to the previous generation 777. They can either have slower take off or landing speeds thus minimising engine thrust which in turn is more fuel efficient or otherwise they can carry a heavier payload with the extra lift being generated. The advantage of a folding wingtip in comparison to a static wingtip of the same dimension is that the 777x can fit into the existing 777 code e gates/stands at airport without having to change the existing infrastructure as was the case with code f aircraft.

No commercial passenger jet can climb vertically or near vertically. Maximum take off angle for an empty jet the size of a 777 would be around 30 degrees or less. These 'near vertical' takeoffs are a trick based on the angle of the camera. Viewed from the side, you would see that the takeoff angle is much smaller that it looks from the front

Boeing obviously went for it on the 777X and it is one beautiful aircraft to watch work. Even though it is an amazing piece of engineering, at the same time itis truly a work of art. to clarify on the folding wingtips: upon landing, when brakes are applied and let off, and aircraft rolls to preprogrammed ground speed, the wingtips retract automatically via computer control (ie: the flight crews does not control the retraction) ......on takeoff, as the aircraft approaches the runway for their takeoff roll, or anytime there before as they taxi away from gate, the flight crew actuates a switch in flight deck to deploy the wingtips

So - some incidents caused by 'rookie' design error that shouldn't have crept into the design after well known 'rules' of design have been known for a long time. Hi there from Australia. I think the Winglets are folded into the Up Position may have something to do with Airport Gate Terminal Spaces between Aircraft as she does have a Large Wingspan, That's only a Guess, In Turbulence Situation they May And I say May give the Wings some Residual Stability but not Cohesive Aerodynamics wise but it's like any Port in a Storm given Serious Problems, You would Utilise any Designed Concepts even if not meant to be Depending on Pilot's Overall View of Immediate Danger lying with them in Severe Storm or Turbulence. The Flexing of the Wings is pretty much on a par with the 787 Series and A350 Aircraft, You get a sensational view of wing flexibility when aircraft comes out of a rapid decent and straitened. This Aircraft is I think in Definition an Airbus A380 killer and will fill Airline Requirements for a long time Post A380, The 787 series more than adequately cover the ,A350 Aircraft to an extent and despite the Technical and Supply Issues which Airbus Industries have had themselves then the Post Covid Pandemic Global shut downs which caused immediate Passenger mayhem when lifted is likely to settle down and these Aircraft will have a part to play in future Airline Planning and I believe a 777 - 10 may be on the list of Boeing's thing's to do, My only other concern is lack of details coming out of Boeing on the 777 and when she will be available and needs much Advertising so to speak as do the 787 series to climb back up the ladder in relation to Airbus Industries orders. With Sincere Regards. John.

The wingtips are extended prior to takeoff.

I see a few comments calling these folding wing tips "winglets". I do not think these are winglets as often seen on other contemporary commercial jets. Correct me if I am wrong, but I suspect this 777x is not designed to fly with these wing tips folded up. Look at the video at the 2:48 mark and you can see the exposed hinges and sharp edges. Modern winglets have a smooth transition from the wing. Those hinges are an aerodynamic nightmare.

Boeing 777X is not designed to fly with them when they are in upward position. The pilot should unfold them before takeoff. Also I heard that aircraft would not be able to takeoff

Where do think the fuel goes. People, cargo to the fuselage. Fuel in the wings. Also, all the weight needs a big airfoil.
