@peabase

I'm sure they have carefully checked the auxiliary power unit before attempting this sort of thing. Hot refuelling is not advised -- that is, if they had to refuel.
@StallionFX1
@StallionFX1 8 месяцев назад
@peabase from what I've heard and read, most aircraft that fly down have enough fuel to go there and back to their destination of origin. They shutdown with APU still running offload/load whatever necessary and then depart again. Rarely do any stay.

That's insane engineering of Dreamliner. 787 is awesome.
@peabase
@peabase 8 месяцев назад
What's the engineering challenge? Passenger jets routinely face even colder temperatures while at cruising altitude.
@Mail2sumit88
@Mail2sumit88 8 месяцев назад
@@peabase engineering is not flying an aeroplane, it's about landing the aeroplane. Minor miscalculation in weight can be disastrous. Carbon composite body making the total aeroplane light and super strong, and that all makes the difference. Landing a 777, 747 and A350 required more thoughts than landing 787 because of the carbon composite structure.
@peabase
@peabase 7 месяцев назад
@@Mail2sumit88 I know about aircraft engineering. That's what I was specifically referring to. The A350 is largely made of carbon composites, even more so than the 787. Airbus customers forced Airbus to go above and beyond in reducing weight.
@Mail2sumit88
@Mail2sumit88 7 месяцев назад
@@peabase I agree but still 787 is tried for landing and not A350. May be it's pushed somewhere by Boeing in the back who knows. A350 is an awesome plane and it's way better in many other points where 787 lacks. And I would now say it's the Pilots who lands the plane so credit goes to them.
@peabase
@peabase 7 месяцев назад
@@Mail2sumit88 It just so happened that the Norwegians had a 787 at their disposal. Airbus A340s have landed on Antartica before.

If the snow starts falling…the plane will stuck there indefinitely coz I’m sure they don’t have any de-ice truck! Luckily, there’s probably no humidity to create any snowfalls. But perhaps blowing snow could cause some trouble? I guess they can’t park the airplane overnight due to fuel freezing? Well, the bright side is there’s no landing fee, I’m pretty sure.

Won't the wheels spin on the ice on take off?
@2Zemog
@2Zemog 8 месяцев назад
Planes move by thrust, pushing air essentially, not through torque. Wheel spin doesn't matter except during landing because the wheels aren't where the plane gains its forward motion - it's at the jet engine. That's why sea planes can take off, or why a plane could theoretically take off without landing gear (although the friction would likely destroy the plane).
