These two scenes really cleared the air between the two. I love their respective endings.
First scene - Season 6, episode 11 “Sunk Cost and All That”
Last scene - Season 6, episode 16 “Nice While It Lasted”
All rights go to Netflix and the creators of Bojack Horseman.

The fact that Bojack still feels at peace even if PC didn’t agree to be his manager again and PC finally learning to love herself is just big growth. This series finale was that good.

It’s so weird to hear his final conversations in the series. He isn’t angry, he isn’t intoxicated, he’s at peace but That doesn’t stop him from being Bojack. A part of him sees the world as a stage. You even get a slap of Bojack when he says “those are some good points”. He’s finally just himself.

While I hadn't ever done anything as bad or been as broken as Bojack, I had my own extreme downward slope. This was years ago, and reflecting on it now after watching this clip, it's so surreal to even remember being like this. The anger, stress, toxicity, it all cakes on a person like layers of mud. Underneath is still you, but there's so much to dig out of. I'm really glad we got to see a cleaned up Bojack. Sure, this is all new to him and he has his doubts and anxieties, but I think this ending set up a Bojack we won't get to see but understand is on a path to healing. We're seeing a Bojack finally starting to realize how free he is from underneath those layers. Even though all of his friends are moving on in their lives and the spotlight is no longer on him, Bojack I think can move on in his own direction too.

@Vee_9001
@Vee_9001 4 года назад
@Simply bobajojoba Yeah, I agree. There are three endings to the show, and I think people get hung up on the one they want most. The first is the second to last episode of season 6a. It's the one with Bojack finally sober, and for the first time not burning any bridges. It's his happy ending, the one that shows that if he tries hard enough, he can get better. If we lived in the era before the metoo movement, the era where we fetishized redemption no matter what the person has done, this would be his end. The second is the View from Halfway Down. Bojack has lost everything, and it looks like he's going to lose even more. There is no forgiveness in the people he talks too, just as Hollyhock chose not to forgive him. We remember that these are just some of the people Bojack hurt, and hurt deeply, and that can never be forgotten. At the end of the day we are our actions, and our actions have consequences, and that was very nearly his end. If it was a morality tale, it would be his end. And then there's the third ending. In real life, people don't commit suicide because they deserve it, or because it's ordained from on high. Bojack did shitty things, and he has to live with those things. The public has short memory, so after jail he'll be able to chase his high if he really wants too, or he could stay sober. It's up to him. Just like it's up to his friends to decide on their friendship. Some can't help but love him, like PC or Todd, but know that they'll just be sucked back in if they get too close. Others, like Mr. Peanutbutter, want to support Bojack, and have Bojack support them. Not out of forgiveness, mind, but because it's healthy to have someone else in the house to come home to. And then there's Diane. She likes Bojack, she understands Bojack more than anyone, but knows if she leaves that bridge open it'll be unhealthy for the both of them. It's not his fault, not anymore than it was her fault, or really anyone's fault when you're codependent. But still, she closes the door. Because it's what's best for her, even as she loves him as a friend. The bridge was never burned, because at the end of the day she can look back and still love him, and he can look back and love her. But it won't be crossed anymore. If Bojack gets drunk again, then he can get sober again. If he's sober one day, he might lose that the next. The point for him isn't whether he deserves redemption or death, but to keep trying every day to be a better person for himself. It's up to his friends whether to stick around and risk getting burned, or to help him. Diane can't risk getting burned anymore, but she does give Bojack the best gift she could have given, what he's craved so much over the years, and what I think a lot of the audience craves. Closure.

@@Usef1371 Your empty whataboutism accomplishes nothing, other than exposing yourself as a big ol' phony. For starters, none of that has anything to do with this show, or Princess Carolyn, or how a fictional character deserves happiness after we've seen her suffer and struggle for so many years. Nothing. Just because other people are suffering, does not invalidate PC or mean that anyone else isn't allowed to suffer, nor does it mean that they're any less deserving of relief from that suffering. Secondly, what have YOU ever done to help those war-torn civilians, hm? Here's you, safe at home in a country where you'll never have to worry about experiencing anything like what they're going through, living it up with your broadband internet, easy access to food and clean water, enjoying a cushy, high standard of living. You clearly are in a more privileged position and have plenty to give, so why haven't you? Tell me, what have you done to directly help those people escape their situation? I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that you've done absolutely nothing for them, because of course you haven't. You just use them as tools to keep yourself firmly atop your high horse, demanding that everyone ELSE is the bad guy for not fixing the problem. Maybe, just maybe, instead of exploiting other people's suffering to make your baseless moral arguments, you can put your money where your mouth is, and avoid looking like a big fat hypocrite.

I guess, but BoJack still has a long way to go. He's on the road to redemption, but he's far from achieving it. Had PC stayed with him, I don't think either of them would be happy. BoJack didn't change until he'd finally saw consequences for his terrible deeds. With PC constantly getting him out of trouble, why would he ever have any reason to change? He'd just keep on being toxic, keep on being unappreciative of the best woman he's ever had in his life, the one he didn't even realize was so important to him until he knew he'd lost her.

I'm also reminded of Bojack's line to PC from S3. "I do love you, by the way. I mean, as much as I'm capable of loving anyone. Which is never enough. I'm sorry." In the end, what PC said to Bojack in that office was the other way around; SHE was the great love of his life. He's had lots of one-off flings, and some longer-lasting (presumably?) relationships with Wanda and Gina, and Sarah Lynn (but really it feels like they were only ever romantically interested in each other for like 2-3 episodes in S1. Yes, Bojack tells her he loves her at the end of S3, but he's also on a hell of a bender and Sarah Lynn is asleep/not paying attention anyway)... but Princess Carolyn stuck with him longer than anyone.

It's ironic how in season 3 it's was the other way around. That's character growth. I do not mean that Bojack didn't, though. I think season 6 was the only season, not episode, where Bojack did indeed try to make a change for the better no matter how shallow it was. In a way at the end of season 6 he's almost where he started. In a "safe" place to get his shit together. But I do not mean it in a bad way. Life is about just starting over. It's hard but it's get easier. I think Bojack is really too messed up to make a "substantive" change or the change we want it as viewers. But he has to keep trying. That is all about.

It's better to pull a King of the Hill, Futurama, Regular Show etc. where it's better to end than end like those 3 shows i mentioned. Life is unfair. There are so many times where a romance ends because life just got in the way. Princess Carolyn had a miscarriage, she was a total wreck, Ralph's family was still racist af against her, and at least in that moment, even looking at Ralph was nothing but a painful reminder of what PC had lost. There's a reason many relationships end after a miscarriage, it's just too painful for one or both partners to cope with. And that sucks, because they may have otherwise been so, so happy, but....you know, life. It just do be like that sometimes.

@ashyslashy22
@ashyslashy22 3 года назад
I wouldn’t say Todd and PC cut him out ENTIRELY, per se (though Diane certainly did). Mr. PB clearly will still be friends with him. Todd has grown immensely since the series began and has learned to forgive BoJack, even offering him hopeful advice on the beach, and PC, while ending their manager-client relationship, loves BoJack too much to cut him out entirely.
@JimmySteller
@JimmySteller 3 года назад
@@ashyslashy22 Wow. It just hit me. The order in which Bojack interacts with all of them. It's a sliding scale. With himself and Mr. Peanutbutter, almost nothing has changed. Mr. Peanutbutter still frustrates Bojack with his constant chipper attitude, but Bojack has grown to appreciate him for what he is. And the two men have grown immensely over the course of the show, but it never affected their relationship with each other. Then it's Todd and Bojack. They have also both grown immensely, and their relationship has changed wildly, but Todd does ultimately forgive Bojack and support him now that he's actually improving as a person. Not to say Todd won't have limits, but he is setting them because he understands Bojack better than Bojack ever understood him. Third, it's PC and Bojack. She is clearly fond of him, but she is also clearly uncomfortable with his negative side, just look at how she reacts when he talks about going back into the film industry after prison. I don't think she'll continue to work with him, she won't represent him anymore, but she doesn't cut him out completely. Not yet, anyway. It's rather ambiguous what will happen to them. Finally, Diane. And it's clear that this is the end of the road for her and Bojack, in every sense. While PC may or may not be saying goodbye to Bojack, it's clear that Diane really is doing that. If Mr Peanutbutter is Bojack's shadow, or foil, then Diane is his kindred spirit. Bojack reaches out to her when he's dying because she understands him the best. They feed off each other's negativity in the second and fourth seasons, with Diane even telling him that he makes sense to her because he's a huge asshole, *and he takes that as a compliment*. It's clear that Diane sees their bond as toxic once she gets away from it and improves herself. Bojack hasn't fully reconciled that, since he's still trying to treat Diane the same way once he's out on the roof with her. From least different to most different. That's why the creators used that order. I never fully got it until now, and I love the show all the more for it.
@kimberlyklaus7296
@kimberlyklaus7296 2 года назад
Well, to different degrees. PC will always deeply care for him, but by saying "I can recommend some excellent people" she has firmly closed the door to ever working with him again, and damaging the happiness she has found with Judah and Ruthie. Todd has a business, an asexual relationship with Maude in a home they share, and he's willing to be friends with Bojack now that he sees Bojack is getting sober and ready to move forward. Diane is the one who appears to have closed all the doors in her relationship to Bojack, but I think she has to because of all the characters, that relationship was the most toxic of all. They cannot grow apartment if they remain in each others' orbit. And anyway, Diane is remarried and moving to Houston. The one who has left all the doors open is, of course, Mr. Peanutbutter, who offered Bojack a place to live when he gets out of the clink and gets back on his feet. I like to think Bojack gets out of prison, gets a great new agent, and is able to find stand up work in Las Vegas, back to his roots.

I think the wedding was the last time Bojack saw most of his old friends. His conversations with PC, Todd, and Diane all sounded pretty final. All three of them seem to have had limited or no contact with Bojack after he went to prison, which makes sense bc he's bad for their images and for themselves. All three have moved on and feel like they're looking back on old chapters of their lives when they talk to Bojack. PB's the exception bc their friendship didn't actually start until late in the series, hell considering the car ride it actually seems like PB and Bojack were still talking consistently during the time skip, so I can imagine them building something up as time goes on. It makes sense to my mind at least.

The last five seconds of this clip might be my favorite of the series. The few moments where Bojack isn't quite sure what to make of PC's comments that she wouldn't represent him but would move him in the right direction... then she exhales and puts her head on him and he reciprocates. I don't think they drew another moment where he looked so genuinely content - either of them really - and the catalyst is that he's just so grateful to still have a true friend with him.

"I can recommend some excellent people" that line shows how far PC went. BoJack is imply that he wants her to help him again in the future, and PC basically says no. It's a good way to end there relationship and BoJack knows it. He knows he doesn't deserve to have someone like PC in his life and her ability to distance herself from him means he knows that she will be ok. They're both happy knowing it's a mutual distancing. They don't hate eachother. They just know that they aren't ment to fix eachother. PC will live a wonderful life and get everything she deserves. BoJack doesn't have to worry about her falling into the same habbit of helping people who don't deserve it. That's why he asked, he was worried he might ruin her life in the future and that line helped him cope with the fact that she isn't a push over anymore. BoJack can go back to prison knowing he won't be able to hurt PC if he gets out. In this episode BoJack talks about being ok with incarceration. Becuase it's the kind of structure he doesn't usually have. In a way he knows that it will distance himself from his loved ones and he will lose them. He want's that. Becuase it means he has no choice but to find his own structure in the future.

I've discovered since watching this show that if you stop trying to be who you think you are and you just be you, you end up living a much happier life.

Explanation: So often we end up trying to live up to our perceived notion of ourselves, that person we think that society thinks we are, that we tend to forget who we actually are along the way. We spend so much time trying to maintain that sense of societal normalcy, that perception of ourselves that we have, that we destroy ourselves trying to maintain it, instead of relaxing and genuinely being who we are. "I'm a piece of shit, so I guess I have to act like a piece of shit." "I'm a drunk, so I guess I should drink." "I'm a perfect model citizen, I HAVE to be a role model for those around me." We put so much pressure on ourselves to be this thing that we an society have told us that we are, we forget who we actually are. Relax. Just...exist. Don't try. When we say "be yourself," what we really mean is relax, and the true you will come out on its own.

"i can recommend some excellent people." i OOF'ed out loud when i first saw this part because of how harsh and gentle the line was. seems like it still has the same effect on me.

It is so incredible and then having 6 seasons and not have a single one that isnt mindblowingly awesome, this show is just so goddamn amazing

@Gil Hannity yeah definetely the first season is the worst, and maybe mind blowing was an overtatement there, but in context with the rest of the the show its fucking awesome, and does an incredible job of setting up the show, in my opinion atleast haha

PC is wonderful! I love how she and Bojack still have a friendship after everything, even though he’s lost Diane and Hollyhock, he still has PC, Todd and Mr Peanutbutter, even if those three have boundaries where he’s concerned

what makes me really happy is the fact that as I was watching this with my boyfriend the other night in the kitchen, he grabbed my hand, squeezed it and lay his head on my shoulder during this scene.... that made me glad

I love how by the end BoJack truly wants to be better. Finally outgrowing his sitcom mindset thinking he is good deep down or trying to go for grand gestures. He recognizes he is the problem and wants to fix himself. And part of that is accepting that some people he has hurt just won’t be there anymore. Diane and PC set aside and make it clear they don’t want to be friends or at least not close anymore. And BoJack even though hurt by that, understands it. He doesn’t claim to have changed he doesn’t promise things will be better. He accepts PCs proposal for a new agent and quietly accepts that Diane doesn’t want to see him again. Because you can be better all you want but the things you’ve done will be there forever. You can be better but you will have to be better for the new people in your life.
