Muwex i drilled the trimmer head off. I made a hole big enough the pull the head off and I was able to unscrew the bolt. Then I replaced the head all together
The Ryobi has the same design fault costs about $10 for a new cap but they only last about two removals before the cavtiy which holds the bolt "strips."
Same on my Ryobi. There's too much play between the cap and the bolt head. The original cap was firmer plastic and lasted much longer than the newer replacements. Did you ever find a way to fix this?
I did this in a fraction of the time by using a pipe fitting torch on the top of the cap while having a screwdriver under the cap and kept try to pry it off until it went 👍
It sounds like your bump head casing is spinning on the cable. So you try turning the nut while holding the bump head casing, but the bump head casing is not keeping the cable from turning. You turn the nut and the cable turns with the nut and the nut won't unscrew. Very frustrating. I had this problem with a trimmer that had a cable shaft with a disconnect about 2 feet from the bump head. I disconnected the cable shaft so I could get at the cable. I put the nut in a vise to keep it from turning. Then I grabbed the cable with some 430 (large) channel locks(carefully so as not to damage the cable) and turned it counter clockwise. The nut broke loose! I haven't fixed the problem with the bump head casing spinning on the cable. The nut on the end of the cable it is supposed to grab onto is recessed inside the shaft. Maybe it got bumped too hard. So the bump head casing cannot mesh with the nut at the end of the cable. Instead, I "borrowed" the bump head casing with 2 feet of cable shaft from another trimmer and used it. Now that I think about it, I might try holding the casing in a vise and beating the cable back from the other direction and get that nut at the end of the cable exposed from the shaft so the bump head casing can grab onto it. You might try that. Good luck!
Usually holding the trimmer head while you remove the bolt will do it. Some models will have a lock hole just above the trimmer head. You insert a small screwdriver or an allen wrench in the hole which will lock the shaft. -Mark
@@FIXTechGuides Mine doesn't have one of those. I've checked it from the sides and top and bottom. I've stuck an Allen key in every hole there is but it won't lock.
First, I sprayed the bolted with wd40. I let it set for a few minutes. I used a multi tool to quickly get rid of the bump head in five minutes instead of using a chisel and a hand saw. Then I locked the head in place using a vise grid and a pair of pliers to take off the seized bolted. In retrospect, I could have used a wrench or rachet and socket but I was doing it quickly with hand tools.
😂 I was thinking the same thing. Bolen sucks. I'm so mad 2 months into having mine. Might as well buy a new weed eater if u need all that equipment to cut it.
Fyi i bought a cheap bolens string trimmer last year. WORST TRIMMER EVER. Even brand new the shake and vibrations are so intense they make my hand go numb after 25 min. Let alone trying to get a full days yard work done. Never used a more unbalanced motor ever.
