Hello Caspianreport (and it's viewers). A friendly reminder to be critical of your sponsors, especially in light of new revelations about Established Titles and Kamikoto Knives. They are both, now, known to be scams. Beware and please try to steer away from them. This goes for viewers, but also to you Shirvan. edit; even if video's are made before these scandals became public, it's fair for us to expect creators to do research before accepting sponsorship deals. A simple google search reveals that Kamikoto knives are at best a rip-off. No in-depth journalistic work is required to see through this crap. This stains your otherwise good reputation.

Hi, I am bolivian, and I must tell you, we are not poor because of being landlocked, we are poor because of the eternal corruption of our governments since the foundation in 1825. Unfortunately, it is all related: you are not developed (you: Chile and Bolivia) because a ruling elite holds most of everything since colony times. That rulling class also decided to go to war. They got richer and more powerful, the country got poorer and also got a 100 years of neighbouring conflicts. Sure, the problem are not the conflicts: is the rulling class. But they´ll keep generating conflicts because stupids will focus on them instead of foccusing on the actual perpetrators. That´s why the perpetrators will also influence the increment of stupids (hollow TV, defunded education systems).

You guys are full of it. Obviously you haven't read any history books outside of Peru. The fact is that Peru approached Bolivia with the secret Alliance and why would they do that with a County that didn't even have a Navy?? And when the hostilities began in the Bolivian side, the Peruvian Army never showed up for that battled with a lousy excuse that they lost their way to the battle. But they demanded the Bolivian Army's assistance to defend their territory. Bolivian troops were commanded by incompetent Peruvian officers and lost 90% of their Army. They had every right to leave and have the small amount of men to defend their Capital in case Chile attacked. The fact of the matter is that Chile always wanted the northern territories specifically Peru's because they had more abundance in minerals. There's no excuse for ignorance in the 21st Century.

Fun fact: Bolivia didn't have a naval force until the 1960s, long after they lost their coast to Chile. This video is based on very bad research. The ports of Arica and Antofagasta have been open to Bolivia since the 1904 treaty, and Chile is the one that built and currently maintains the respective railways. On the other hand, the Chilean lawsuit over the Silala tries to clarify that it's an international river, and not an artificially diverted spring, as the Bolivian government maintains, which apparently doesn't understand the laws of physics. Chile doesn't need anything from Bolivia, since the Silala case was resolved favorably, establishing that the river's water must be used equitably, and Bolivia doesn't need anything from Chile either, since it already has free access to Chilean ports. The whole issue is about the hurt feelings of Bolivians, which are routinely exploited by governments that want to divert attention to an external enemy.
@juanolechuga

As part of the 1904 treaty, Chile must provide facilities in its ports and is obliged to maintain an operational railroad from the port of Arica to the Bolivian border. The treaty with Bolivia was signed decades after the war. Chile paid Bolivia in cash and by building train lines in Bolivia and to connect Bolivia with the port of Arica, and by giving it preferential access and their own tax free premises in the port for eternity. Upon signing of the treaty, the Bolivian president was heralded for his achievement by congress and the population. To those that may think the treaty was signed under duresse, the fact is that Bolivia then repeated the process with Brazil by selling large swathes of land for cash and more railroads. Bolivia after the war had better and cheaper port access than ever before. Furthermore, the ex peruvian port of Arica was the only port that Bolivia used before the war, because other ports were too difficult to access, so even before the war Bolivia used Peruvian ports exclusively.

First Chile was looking for an excuse to attack Bolivia and Peru and the defence treaty was known to them that's why they renounce to their claim in Patagonia to knock Argentina to intervine in the conflict. Bolivia send an army to Peru in orden to coordinate a joint attack but Peru thought that Chile would stop at the Peruvian border something that never happened. Bolivia was offered Peruvian territory in order to withdraw from the war something that was not accepted. Very interesting analysis. Now, there is one very important fact that is missing: according to the 1904 peace treaty between Bolivia and Chile, the former has the right to use the ports of Antofagasta and Arica (maintained by Chile) to export their goods under extremely favorable conditions. Chile also has to maintain railways from Antofagasta and Arica to Bolivia, in order to facilitate the commerce. This means that, in practice, Bolivia has had ample opportunities of accessing the Pacific Ocean for export and import, rendering the whole "sovereign access to the ocean" more a political issue than a practical economical one. On the same note, in the early 2000's vast gas deposits were discovered in Bolivia, and negotiations were entered with Peru and Chile to export that gas. Chile offered the better economic deal with better facilities, but due to ideological reasons they discarded that offer. To this day, those vast gas resources remain buried, with the Bolivian government alienating foreign investors willing and able to extract the gas. This lies in the same area as the above: the main issue with Bolivia is political stability, and not commercial opportunities.

This video contains MANY inaccurate statements. 1. Chile got independence in 1818 and Perú in 1821. Then Bolivia did no exist, and Chile and Perú recieved the territories left from Spain. The territories assumed by the new republics followed Uti Possidetis Juris principles. Then Perú and Chile shared a border that for centuries was the River Loa, just North of Antofagasta in the Atacama desert. This frontier can be clearly seen in the last official map of the old Kindom of Chile dated 1793. This map clearly shows that Chile and Perú frontier is the Loa River. And of course Bolivia did not existed. 2. Bolivia was invented by Bolivar in 1825. Its territory was called "Alto Perú" because it was the antiplanic región of Perú and was at the North part of the Viceroyalty of the River Plate. The entire Viceroyalty of River Plate was at the East of the Andes mountains. Therefore it never had land bodering the Pacific Ocean. 3. But in 1826 Sucre by decree anexed to Bolivia the Northen part of Chile, South of the Loa River, ilegally taking from Chile 400 kilometres of coast, and separating Chile from Perú. 4. Sucre was smart in not making anything to atract attentions to his ilegal moves. Starting an slow graving of land from to mountains to the see. But Chile reacted in 1843 initiating a land dispute only when Bolivia start to demand taxes from chilean mining companies. At that time 92% of the people who lives in the disputed territory was CHILEAN. 5. The first bolivian enclaves on the Pacific where small towns built by chilean laborers as the bolivian population was not keen on descending from the antiplanices to the coast crossing a extremelly dry dessert. 6. Bolivian declared war to Chile in 1864, to take by force what was not possible by right or reason. The war stopped in 1866, because Spain initiated a war against Perú and the pacific countries joined forced against Spain. So the land dispute between Bolivia and Chile was settled by a Treaty in 1866. The Treaty was favourable to Bolivia since Chile was going the give the territory to Bolivia in 1891, if Bolivia did not ask for mining taxes to the Chilean companies in the disputed territory until then. So all that Bolivia has to do was to wait. 7. The Treaty was perfected in 1874. 8. But Perú was in bad economic situation since the Salitre was desplacing the guano as fertilizar and its own Salitre factories were not compiting well with the Chilean ones. So Perú scretly decided to joing forces with Bolivia and Argentina to make war with Chile. Perú and Bolivia after defeating Chile could take all its salitre mines creating a worls monopoly and Argentina could take the Straight of Magellan already in Chilean hands since 1843. 9. Bolivia then deliveratly provoked the war by not fulfilling its part of the Treaty by demanding taxes from the Chilean companies in the territory in dispute. And when the Chilean companies did no pay the taxes, Bolivia made the ilegal move to auction the factories. So the Chilean goverment was forced to intervine. Peacfully occupying Antofagasta with the sailors of one of its navy ships on the 14th of February of 1979. The Bolivians administrators retreated. But Bolivia declared war on Chile on the 1st of march of 1879. Chile then re took the land usurped by Bolivia in 1826. Action that generated the first confrontation between Chileans and Bolivian on the 23th of March in the town of Calama. 10. Chile asked Perú to remain neutral several times. But the goverment of Perú did not reply and uses that time to continue preparing for war. Finally Perú declared war on Chile on the 4th of April of 1879 by the means of publishing an article in its main newspaper. The news of the war with Chile were celebrated in Peru like a Carnival. As everybody thought then that Bolivia and Perú together, were going to easily defest Chile. Plus there was the strong posibility that Argentina joined, which did no occurrs. 11. Chile has always been a pacifist country. But was forced to act confronted with the impossibility of defend its rights by diplomacy. The better quality of its goverment and the knowledge that was fighting for a just cause gave to Chile the victory. Chile recovered its own territory lost by the ilegal action of Bolivia in 1826. And Chile took from Perú only 10% of it territory despite the fact the Chile conquered in battle most of the peruvian territory an governed Perú for three years. 12. In 1904, 20 years after the cesation of the hostilities, Chile and Bolivia signed a Peace Treaty. That treaty was significally favourable to Bolivia. As Chile actually paid an enormous amount of money to Bolivia, (in practice buying its own territory, by building a rail system from La Paz to Arica, by paying for Bolivia external debts, by opening road fron Bolivia to the Chilean ports, and by allowing for ever to Bolivia the use of Chilean ports free of profitability. 13. Therefore Bolivia has never been in practice a land locked country. So it is not true that Bolivia has suffered for been landlocked. 14. Chile many time proposed a corridor to Bolivia for ex peruvian territory. Even before the end of the war, right after the end of the war and before the signing of the Treaties defining the new international boundaries, but Bolivia insisted in retaking Chilean Atacama territory instead. Resulting in a dead end to negotiation. 15. The socialist goverment of Evo Morales portrayed with patriotic discurse the bolivian aspiration to a exit to the sea as a sacred duty. He even modifyed the Bolivian constitution to make it an obligation by 2023. As the Chilean government refused to give to Bolivia what is rightfully Chilean territory, then Bolivia took its demand to the International Court of Justice. And The Hage ruled in favor of Chile in 2016. Acknowledging that Chile has no obligation of giving territory to Bolivia nor to seat to negotiate a territorial cessation in favor of Bolivia. 16. So the title of this video is WRONG. Bolivia does not wants its coastline back. What Bolivia always wanted was to take from Chile 400 kilometres long territory with coast. Because Bolivia was invented in 1825 without coast. Bolivia administered that Chilean territory between 1826 and 1879. But it was never rightfully Bolivian territory. The CIJ correctly stated in 2016. Bolivia cannot force Chile to give to Bolivia what legally belongs to Chile. Case closed. 17. It is also not true that Bolivia is rich in Lithium. Because despite the fact that lake Uyuni is a huge saltflat, it actually contains a very low concentration of Lithium which make the extraction of Lithium in Bolivia too expensive to be possible. 18. And it is not true that Bolivia is rich in gas and Chile is not. It is the opposite. The gas in Bolivia is now almost completely exausted. Bolivia will have in 2025 not even sufficient gas for its own population. And the deposit of crystalized gas in front of the coast of Chile are the bigest in the world. And now could be exploited. Beside Chile has never depended on Bolivian gas, as Bolivia has never agreed to sell gas to Chile. Chile is now producing most of its energy from solar, wind and hydro plants . As the northen part of Chile is blessed with excellent condition for creating all the energy that the country needs. Chile will be 100% independent from fossil fuels by 2040.

After all, the 19th century wars in South America were just wars between oligarchies defining their areas of influence, and they didn't care too much about much else than power and profit. After the war of the Pacific, chilean politicians (at that time entirely part of the oligarchy) went into an intestine power struggle between the parliament and presidentialists, and held a civil war in 1891, which the parliament won. Meanwhile, the oligarchy despised their working class at the point they didn't care about their working and living conditions, until a tuberculosis epidemic in Chile broke out so savagely that the country achieved the worst global numbers, and the country had the most children and mother deaths worldwide. What you could think about a generic poor and hungry African country, was Chile back then. Who made the best efforts to solve that situation and made a precedent for Chile to turn from a living hell into a developing country was a teacher who turned President of Chile, Pedro Aguirre Cerda, who ruled the country between 1938 and 1941 (he died of tuberculosis during his mandate), and his minister of health, some young doctor called Salvador Allende Gossens (this name could be familiar to you). The situation was so dire that when the world was attending WW2, Chile had its own war against deficiency diseases and malnutrition, and the president managed to unite all social actors to combat that situation, no matter their political sector. A couple generations passed after that and the oligarchs went back into their old ways, and that lead to a coup d'etat.

in short: Kamikoto knives belongs to a company called Galton Voysey. Galton Voysey's Co-founders, Katerina Yip and William Wolfram, have also owners/founders of Fail ventures. Fail venture is the owner of different companies such as Establish Tiles (which is a known scam company). Katerina Yip is even shown as Entablish title's founder on its website. I'm not saying they are guilty by association, but there is a clear tendency here. It wouldn't be a surprise to find them selling cheap products as high value ones.

Having such a sentiment among the youth shows the propaganda angle on the issue. After all, if young people want to get to the sea, all they have to travel there. The borders are sufficiently open for that kind of trip.
@lricardo
@lricardo Год назад
@@the-quintessenz it's not only propaganda, trade is severely limited without open access to sea ports, and trade is directly related with many economic factors. Here in this video it is stated that the estimated loses of being landlocked are around 1/5 of the GDP, I read other sources that say that it could very well be at least 1/3, that is a lot, specially for a poor country like Bolivia, which has several economic indicators that are almost equivalent to african countries. I never wanted to get to the sea, neither most of my family, but, as bolivians we understand very well the limitations of the lost coast.
@the-quintessenz
@the-quintessenz Год назад
@@lricardo I understand. What puzzles me is why Bolivia hasn't struck a deal with either Peru or Chile. After all, two options opens the possibility for an auction with the winner getting quite a deal. But then again if I had to guess: The CIA wouldn't like that.
@lricardo
@lricardo Год назад
@@the-quintessenz there were some attempts of deals, but bolivian leadership has been tragically problematic for decades, even before the war with Chile, now, the situation has not changed so much, I don't know if there is foreign interference against Bolivia, but, it would not be necessary, as the leadership of Bolivia is bad enough to destroy any aspirations to access the Pacific ocean. I personally believe that a peaceful deal with Chile is impossible, and because Bolivia is so behind Chile and Peru in economic and militar terms, then it Bolivia will not get any access anytime soon.

Good times Bad times is extremely bias in the Russo Ukrainian war towards Ukraine. While its information on war tactics is solid. They have yet to actually discuss that actually reason for the conflict. Neither side is honestly discussing it tho so it's hard to completely blame Good times, Bad Times. The reason for this war is simply a disagreement between Self Determination vs Territorial Integrity. From Putins view, the people from Crimea and Donbas, are ethnically Russian, speak Russian as primary language, and would prefer to be apart of Russia. Putin views himself as the protector of ALL Russians. Inside modern day Russia and the ones left outside from the collapse of the Soviet Union. So when Viktor Yanukovych was overthrown illegally by Ukrainian constitutional law, when the new government started implementing anti Russian laws, when right sector started terrorizing ethnic Russians Putin decided to act in protection of Russians regardless if how we feel about it. I'll go into it more if you want. I took the time to sort out bias Russian and bias western propaganda because as a American veteran I dont want to see wars happens and when they do I believe it's our responsibility to fully understand the conflict if were going to arm and fund it.
