Back in the 90's a survey was made for the public to pick which father from a TV series made the best father and which TV mother made the best mother. Lorne Greene was chosen as the best TV father (Ben Cartwright) and Esther Rolle (Florida Evans) from Good Times made the best mother of TV. They were both God fearing characters and I guess that's why they were chosen. I agree with those choices.

That story is truly make believe because in real life Ben Cartwright would have one 32 inside each boot. LaDuke told Ben you have everything and I have nothing. Ben worked at getting everything from scratch. Old evil LaDuke could do the same thing. He was his own worst enemy.

I do not understand why LaRoche thought that he could blackmail Ben Cartwright back in New Orleans. WHY would anyone have cared about his third wife's past? He was not a famous person or a politician, or anything like that, at the time.

You can definitely see a change of style from season 1 and to a certain extent season 2 from the rest of the series. The dialogue was more crude and blunt, even Ben slightly lacked some of the maturity and grace of later seasons, and the Cartwrights were more obsessed with property ownership. Not a critique of the first couple of seasons, just something i noticed.
