A UK Independence Party politician has apologised for saying Britain should not send foreign aid to "bongo bongo land" despite telling Sky News he does not regret using the phrase.
Earlier, Godfrey Bloom refused to repeat the controversial phrase after being rebuked by his party and told to watch his language.
But in an interview with Sky's Sarah Hewson he stood by the sentiment and insisted he had sparked a vital debate about Britain's spending on international aid.

He probably shouldn't of used the term bongo bongo because it is unprofessional. But at the end of the day it's not really a big deal, and Godfrey is right that it's only really the world of political correctness like the media and that news woman that make a big fuss over something that isn't really that important.

Ahh, I see. Wanting to have sensible immigration controls is somehow synonymous with blaming immigrants for all our woes? Drivel. It's the same line the government took trying to tie any debate on immigration to racism to avoid the discussion. What's in it for me in defending him? Sensible free-speech. I absolutely yearn for it. If a man is clearly racist, fine, have that debate. But let's not try to misconstrue because it suits our aims. As for your last comment. Stop reading the Guardian.

Immigration needs sorting out, sensibly - neither weakly, nor extremely. Once a party decides to do that, they're going to get all types. The opposition will defame you collectively based on that minority of course. You either fear to tackle it and remain free of criticism, which frankly is not good enough, or you tackle it and take the hits as they come as a mark of conviction. UKIP are doing the latter. I'm sick of parties that fear to tread in their own manufactured taboos.

I'm certainly not upset about the use of "bongo bongo" land but I'm a bit gutted about the money and if this reporter was any good she'd be reporting on that rather than worrying about upsetting a wokey minority.

Because he wasn't aware that he was being secretly filmed, and used the first collective nation placeholder that came to mind without thinking that someone somewhere would pretend they were offended for political gain, mebbe? Point: Totally missed. My point, again for those who missed it, is that his context is clearly not racist. Only the media has tried to make it so. Demean other's ethnicity? What ethnicity? He was using the term collectively for all the nations we give aid to. Get this straight: He did not use it in a racist context, and clearly is not racist. What political agenda is served by making it racist? Wake up.

We need to STOP giving aid to countries overseas, but if we do that we also need to pass a law to STOP our international cooperation like Shell and BP from draining their county's resources, because for every $1 given as aid from the UK $10 is taken as resources from these African Bongo Bongo Lands.

Sorry, immigration control is a debatable idea? Do you mean that immigration control is simply a topic for debate, or the idea of immigration control is debatable as to its validity as a topic for discussion? Not entirely sure which way you're going with it. As for the rest - considering the considerable effort the opposition has gone to, the most they can find is a young lad reaching for a phone and calling it a nazi salute, and bongo bongo, an innocuous phrase. I can't say I'm too worried.

Oblivious to their own racism. I assume you also class the Labour Party as Racists because they currently have sitting councilors who were former BNP Councillors. They used to represent a party which calls for ethnic minorities to leave the UK - That's racism you foolish individual! UKIP have a blanket ban of ex BNP members from even joining the party. In hindsight, given his position he probably shouldn't have used that term, but i'm glad UKIP do not bind themselves to political correctness!!

It is a reasonable point. I disagree with it, but it's reasonable. UKIP have taken on candidates too quickly, they admit that themselves. In the rush to provide as many areas as they can with representation, they've undoubtedly absorbed a minority of idiots. It's correctable, and they're working on it. Considering the vast amount of scandals we've forgiven the main parties for, which by that logic also eliminate them from leading this discussion, I'm willing to give UKIP the chance.

I've already stated that immigration is simply something to debate rationally, personally i think its a non-issue but if people want to discuss that among other things i have no objection, but it needs to be done carefully and emphatically, when a group of people start making racial slurs i get to thinking they may be somewhat biased, that party is full of that type of bias, this isn't just one incident, they are not the people to lead that discussion, thats a reasonable point.

I would like to know the names of those Labour councillors but yes, i consider them complicit in racism. Much like the unions used to be full of anti-woman members, they need to be exposed. The problem with UKIP is its not just lower ranks as we see including their treasurer (ex-BNP i heard), theres many examples. As for this war on "political correctness", i say its that very thing that diplomacy is based on.

Its ironic that you suggest im biased and yet you are defending an actual bias which is the reason why we're here, Blooms bias, saying words that demean other ethnicity's and suggests he thinks he is culturally superior, yet he's a racist he's party's full of them and theres nothing superior about that.

No no, not at all. If people are found to be that idiotic, UKIP have taken steps to sorting them out. The problem comes when you try to paint the majority with the actions of a minority. If you will forgive me for saying so, that's pretty bigoted of you to generalise like that. The other parties have ex-BNP members standing for them. Do I call them all racist neo-nazis? Of course not. I'll judge individuals on their actions, and parties on their policy. Hence UKIP.

Ah the defence of UKIP continues.. Ex-BNP members maybe in Labour or Lib-Dems, but they dont represent me either these days, btw can you name them? When a parties flagship policies (in the case of UKIP, immigrants and EU, i.e. foreigners) coincide with the quite offensive views of its party members (who are still active btw), you would be a fool to not ask yourself if this was not by chance and calling me a bigot after defending Bloom and MANY other UKIP members actions is laughably ironic.
