Hello there, and welcome to those who subscribed. Sorry for the introduction of this video. My dogs kept barking, so it was a nightmare to edit it, but I finally did it. Thanks to your support, I feel more comfortable talking to the camera. Sometimes, I'm too self-aware of my English pronunciation, which is distracting. I study English literature but live in a French city, so I barely get the chance to practice. Hopefully, with time I'll feel more confident and make fewer errors.
What is your most anticipated book of 2023? I never know what books are coming out, so I'm curious.

Hi Eva - wow you really do like your gothic novels! I would have to say that Faulkner can often be challenging reading and Absalom Absalom is generally considered his most difficult book. You might like to know that a group of booktubers do a readalong called Faulkner in August and Absalom Absalom might be the one they do this year (I hope so as I hope to join in!). Also a great channel called Bookish has a video on where not to start with Faulkner which might be interesting to you. I would advise a more gentle start to his work such as As I Lay Dying which is brilliant.

I'm reading Absalom Absalom now and oh boy! It is definitely one of the most challenging books I've read, but I'm enjoying it so far. It's a monster masterpiece. Angela Carter sometimes writes in a very similar way, and she is one of my favourite authors. Being familiar to her writing has helped me with Faulkner. Thank you for the suggestions!! I always like to listen to podcasts and videos about the works I'm reading. I couldn't find any podcasts about Faulkner, so I'm gonna check that channel.

Hola Eva, Me Gusta tus videos. I am intrigued about gothic novels, not a genre I have read but I may start with Mexican Gothic since I am Mexican. Looking forward to seeing your videos in the future, gracias. Greetings from California.

Gracias, Francisco! Have you ever read Cuentos de amor de locura y de muerte from Horacio Quiroga? It's basically South American gothic. You could also start with some short stories from Poe. Those never disappoint.

Hi Eva, I really like your videos so far and your approach towards books and literature. From the books you mentioned, I think you'll like most "Woman in White". Wilkie Collins is one of my favourite authors, I have read almost all his books, his is deeply victorian in his prose, with many twists in his plot and memorable characters. I highly appreciate you can read books in multiple languages. Looking forward for more videos! Greetings, and a happy reading year, from Greece!

Thank you!! I think I'll be reading the Woman in White very soon. It seems to have everything I like in a book. 🥰
