Sackhoff and Helfer had never had a scene together before the fight. They did most of their own stunts. After this the 2 of them became lifelong friends. They oversee a charity together. Take motorcycle excursions together. There are 2 RU-vid videos of them together. One is a prank video where KS surprises TH with a gag feature in KS' Tesla. The other is a videocast they made together when exhausted and punchy. Both are among the funniest things I've ever seen.

Met Katee a few times, and met Tricia once- during an AIDS walk. Told a rather vulgar joke- Tricia burst out laughing straight out of the gate, Katee was confused, until Tricia explained it to her... The girlie vs tomboy dynamic is a tad reverse from what the roles would have you believe.

What you need to understand about the Crashdown/Tyrol dynamic is there are two rank systems in the military. Officers have a college education and are responsible for making decisions. Enlistees are guys off the street who join up and have to do the grunt work. But senior enlisted are called noncommissioned officers and act as managers who make sure the commanding officer's orders are carried out. In theory, the lowest ranked officer fresh from the academy can give orders to a senior enlisted man, but in practice this would be a bad idea that would earn a tongue lashing from their superior. Crashdown is a low ranked officer. Tyrol is a senior NCO. Crashdown should be deferring to Chief, but he's not, and that's a recipe for disaster.

I've heard it described as officers create strategy. NCOs handle the tactics needed. Officer says "We need to take that ridgeline to support the main group". Sergeant says "Smith, you go left, Jones you go right and Brown you take middle. All right, follow me!" That's way over-simplified but kinda accurate.

Chief is also trying SUPER HARD not to step on his toes. He's deferring to him, he's calling him "sir" a lot, he's making suggestions instead of demanding a different plan. But Crashdown isn't remotely in the right headspace.

On top of that, Crashdown is a pilot, so he has even less experience being in a leadership role compared to say, a Marine platoon commander or a department head/section leader on Galactica.

Adama made that snark about personal misgivings BECAUSE Lee was standing right there. Grace Park's acting is great. She does quite a few #8s and they all are quite different. Did Adama choose Boomer for the mission because it looked like, uh, an unaliving mission and Boomer had just tried to unalive herself?

The musical score that Bear wrote for every season is absolutely perfect. Like the actual ship the Galactica, the music is it's own character that leads you throughout the entire series.🎶🎵💗

"He's on the boardgame!" Is a solid piece of reasoning 😆 Even knowing it was coming, that final moment still hits hard. This show has so many moving pieces it's like a carnival magician keeping your attention in one direction and then - bam - hitting you by surprise from the otherside. The writers of BSG take current events (at least for the time that the show was made) and weave them into the storylines. Those current events and themes within the show ripple across time, influencing what we watch and hear, and listen to today. Fear for the commander, the uncertainty of the mission, and the hope that we all make it out of this crap in one piece. There's a storm coming.... and I'm afraid even after it passes, something is coming. Something dark. If anyone has the dvd box set of the full series, I urge you to listen to the commentary and watch the BTS. You'll find so many insights into the making of the show. Bear McCreary and Ronald D. Moore even published blogs (remember when those were popular) talking about fan theories and discussion, as well as the going ons of production and music making.

A character can die, and still appear in the series. Even without Cylon duplicates, there are flashbacks, dreams and visions. Is Adama dead? Watch and fine out. Also, the Six that Starbuck is fighting has never met Gaius Baltar. The duplicates don't all have shared experiences. It was Boomer, and only Boomer, who shot Adama. Sharon on Caprica, and even all those other Sharons on the Basestar, don't share that memory. That Six likely just knew about Starbuck through their spies. They're duplicates, with duplicate personalities, but they are individuals as well. Also, there are a few people who can't be Cylons. For instance, *if* Adama is human, then Lee cannot be a Cylon. Because Bill Adama, as his father, would've witnessed his birth. So anyone who you can confirm as having a genuine past and family, cannot be a Cylon because Cylons are not copies of genuine human beings.

just imagine watching this episode when it first premiered on tv and having to wait 3 to 6 months to find out if Adama survives, what happens to Boomer on the Galactica and Boomer, Starbuck and Hielo on Caprica.....this cliffhanger is equivalent to the cliffhanger of Star Trek TNG when Picard became Locutus of Borg....having to wait 3 months was nail biting

BSG was on the cusp of the tectonic shift on how media was produced and consumed. This was right when Netflix got going and Amazon Prime was on the horizon. Ron D. Moore mentioned in a late season commentary that while editing each EP they had to strike a balance between the week to week broadcast audience and the binge watching DVD/streaming audience. You actually edit story beats and reveals differently.🤔

For those who did watch it at the time of airing the Brits got it first on Sky1 while the US got it months later however it was one of the first big series to be torrented like crazy during that time. I remember forum posts either teasing us US viewers or frustrated that they had to wait longer to get Season 2 and that we wouldn't have to wait as long.

It’s ironic that a lot of deep space nine fans watched this show because of Ronald D Moore and DS9 is your least favorite trek. BSG is also a response to how Ronald D Moore wanted to do Star Trek voyager after his short gig on being a writer on voyager. He left the series due to creative differences.

A lot of the fun during the original broadcast was wondering and anticipating if and when certain things in the original series would happen in the reboot. Although it is very "comic book" in tone some familiarity is important and will add to more speculation.

Tricia Helfer & Katee Sackhoff became great friends during the show. So much so, that they have remained friends & done many vlog videos together in the years since. They told a story about the fight scene with the arrow which was hysterical. They couldn't stop laughing during the fight, causing many takes...and both were bruised after finishing, 🙂

@@Philistine47 Was shocked to see it's out of print. It's a long time favourite amongst my board game friend group, it's just great. They must have lost the rights or something. Or maybe sales aren't good enough anymore, seeing as the show is getting very old. Also, in case you didn't know, there is a Cthulhu themed clone named "Unfathomable" made by the same company, part of their Arkham series of games. It's not an exact copy of BSG, but it's very, very close. I still prefer the original BSG board game, obviously, but if you don't want to spend 200+ bucks on a used copy of that, it's a reasonable alternative.

I saw this episode years and years ago when it aired (2005) and remember it clearly. Hell, I can barely remember what I did last week, but, I still vividly remember where I was, who I was with and how we reacted when the total surprise ending happened almost 2 decades ago. It’s like my brain treated it like a real traumatic event and burned it into my memory forever. Incredible show.

Roslyn proved she was capable of sewing insurrection amongst the military. By getting Starbuck to disobey orders on a critical mission, on a mission to save the Fleet-The Fleet’s command structure is a tightrope walked between civilian and military authorities-Roslyn overstepped and interfered with the military-When they both agreed to stick to their own spheres, Adama and Roslyn, military and civilian government. I’m not saying what he did was right. But it is arguably justifiable.

I still remember back when I was first watching BSG and I was at a party and a friend of mine who'd already seen the season all the way through was like 'Can you believe they shot Adama?' (he'd assumed I'd seen the whole season already too), but I was only on episode 4 or something --- so I was totally spoiled! Still, the storytelling is so good that even though I knew that was going to happen, I was still riveted seeing how it all played out.

What's more addictive than the series? Watching people react to it. If you don't want to miss the bandwagon the Amazon series "Fallout" is good.

Something to remember is it was almost a year between the pilot miniseries and the show actually starting. So we were like wtf is happening. The planet got nuked and they are on the run then nothing for a year lol. And no promise they'll actually release a season.

There are many more plot twists to come. By the way the only reason there are only 13 episodes in season one is because this was a mid season replacement series. It replaced another series that was cancelled in mid season because of poor ratings.
