Boone Trace was the first road, or trail into the land that was to become Kentucky, blazed by Daniel Boone and his axmen in the Spring of 1775. The route went through natural land gaps and followed many rivers, creeks, and streams until it reached the terminus at Fort Boonesborough. Some of the original route is on modern day paved roads, but the rest of it has been covered over with time and now lies on private or government land. We take you there!
This video gives a detailed description of the route of Boone Trace through Madison County, Kentucky. See the sites of what Daniel Boone, and the first pioneers saw! After watching this video, you can visit the website of The Friends of Boone Trace, where you can download the Avenza app, and get the driving tour on your phone.
We hope you take this adventure in your vehicle and drive the route to see the sites. We also hope you stop often to get out and walk where Boone, and your ancestors walked. Many find this a rewarding, moving, and emotional experience.
It’s free too…

My ancestor Lilbert Boggs (Gov. of MO) was married to Daniel Boone’s granddaughter, Panther Grant Boone. His first wife was Julia Bent of Ft. Bent. My grandmother was a Boggs. I love watching this history come to life in your videos. Thank you so much!

Great video. I’m a new subscriber and also a genealogist in Washington state. My 5x great grandmother’s older brother Edward Douglass lived in Madison Co. and married a local girl Dicey Green whose family had settled there. The Douglasses were from Sumner Co., TN and early settlers there. Their grandfather Capt. John Blackmore was the founder of Ft. Blackmore in what is now Lee Co., VA and Daniel Boone came through their area and is documented as stopping at the fort on his way into Kentucky. My Blackmore and Douglass family is also related to the Carters of Lee Co., VA, some of whom still reside there today (family of country singer June Carter Cash). My ancestor Capt. John Blackmore was a friend of John Donelson and left Virginia with him or about the same time heading to what is now Nashville, TN. John Donelson was the father of Rachel Donelson, wife of future President Andrew Jackson.

Enjoyed this video so much. The Otter creek scenes looks like it was filmed in my backyard lol. I saw the train tracks that run in my yard.

At 12:40, on the left side of the screen is the big granite monument with names of original defenders of Fort Boonesborough. They were compiled from information found in the French Tipton Papers (Western Kentucky University Library)... Although he didn't exist, Isaac Wane will be remembered through history as one of them while my family member, Isaac Ware missed having his name chiseled in stone by just one little mistake of transcription - but he's not bitter about it. ps. Thanks so much for the great work you're doing on these videos!

I think, and I can’t confirm, but it seems like I’ve heard someone say because it’s very shallow in many places and the waters breaks a lot in a silver glean.
