I am a cancer patient who does short rapid strides flat and on streets with inclines. I will sometimes go out before breakfast and do a half marathon distance. All of my power walks are between 10K and so far 26K. My late great race buddy Edith always told me it's not worth getting out of bed if it's less than 10K. My hemotologist is astounded by not only the amount of walking I do but also the medical benefits relating to my cancer (multiple myeloma).

@@greenlifesaves thanks!! So far I'm still in remission. Yesterday I did something I never did before. The day after my treatment I did two marathons in the morning. 10.58K and 21.19K (half marathon). it was a hot morning. Usually the day after treatment I feel sick from the chemo but for some reason I felt good. I can't street enough the importance of walking. I was able to keep my race pace for most of the walking and I mixed flat and inclined streets like I always do. I am bound and determined to do another 42K marathon avenging my 2019 DNF (did not finish) because of cancer treatment issues. I also have a 26K army run coming up in a few weeks. Since March 18 2022 I have done 42 marathons ranging from 10K to 31K. My oncologist has never heard of anything like that. Walking for me is part of my cancer treatment. My oncologist didn't prescribe it. I did. It's so nice to hear other people walking and their stories!!! 😀

Forefoot walking is the way to go. I live in a hilly area and walk 7 - 8km per day, half of it is up a incline. Incline walking will burn 10% more calories than walking flat terrain. After walking for a week, I find myself almost wanting to start a jog from forefoot walking. I know I am not fully ready just yet. All it takes is one small injury to undo any progress I've made so far. I was a runner all though highschool, and do miss it. I'm 48 years old now, and out of shape. No matter the leg pain, I remain determined and keep pushing forward.

Striking the ground with the forefoot is helped by using the entire length of the foot. Activating the chain from the lower back, to the glutes, from the calves all the way to the toes allows for a easier walking form. Not lifting the back foot until the toes helps the ankle flexion as well as forces the body to wait so that the leading food is properly underneath the body, limiting heel strike. Thanks to your videos I walk with better posture as well as helping my older family members get the most out of their daily walks. Thank you so much!

If you are briskly walking, your impact will be higher when heel striking, than a forefoot strike. Think of brisk walking as the point, just before "take-off" into a running stride. This spoed is necessary for efficient fat loss.

Yes! I've been experimenting with these modes of ambulation for a year now and have cute names for them, all nodding to 'shuffling' which is an epic Kenyan distance running hack, that for some reason is only mentioned in like 3 youtube vids. 105 to 120 is "normal" walking. Keeping the same speed transition to forefoot strike and bring cadence to ~150 ... this is 'waffling', 180 to 210, still at walking speed, I call 'wuffling', if done with excellent posture and relaxation you just add a slight forward lean and now you're 'shuffling', still at say 190-200 cadence, and you're going 4-5MPH but it is literally effortless (relative to conventional jogging). a garmin watch (or similar) with a cadence sensor is such a game changer. Transitioning to easy running, threshold pace, and 1k interval pace is just a matter of moving center of mass up and forward (i.e. forward lean), like your being lifted up by the waist from behind a la lion king, and ironically, your cadence actually _slows down_ as you move into those higher gears. This completely flies in the face of the conventional wisdom that says 'pro runners run at 180+, but don't worry about this because it is for elite runners...' FALSE! Apologies for the rant, but this has been such a paradigm shift for me (from age 6 - 36 I just thought i was slow and heavy and had bad genetics). the day that i just shuffled for a full km until i was warmed up, everything relaxed and balance with legs turning over at 190+, such an unexpected breakthrough, and its available to everyone, and its free!

I find that evenually working up to a nice brisk and inclines are the best! My dad would walk around his property which was a flat terrain for 30 minutes a day, I invited him to a community asphalt nature trail with nice up and down inclines, half way in ,he was out of breath and had to rest . He has being walking at his property for years . I am not sayin that this was wrong , at least it was something ., but we can do better.The challange of taking a hill is that when you get to the top you can cruise down without really breaking the stride,and catch your breath .... I lean forward when going into the incline to accomplish this feat. Furthermore , I set pace at 30 minutes a day not interested on how many miles ,its the quality that counts .Best Regards on a great video!

You are absolutely right. I started walking 42K marathons back in 2007 and 2008. Then from 2009-2014 I ran them. I can tell you firsthand that walking is way better. When I ran I was always dealing with injuries. AND I believe walking has the same effect health wise. Actually I think it's better in so many ways!!! 😀
@TruthFLA
@TruthFLA Год назад
The worst part of injurys for me is you lose alot of progress you made during the time you have to take off to heal. When i was in my 20s i would push it to the limit every chnace i got which lead to lot of unnecessary injuries and thus time off. These days the goal is to avoid injuries all together to avoid training downtime. Being uninjured is way better.

I recently started back walking and have now developed severe pain in my feet, I'm guessing it's from an old pair of shoes:( so, I'm hoping for some suggestions on how to get back into walking without so much pain. Is it not correct to walk heel to toe? Thanks for any advice.

I use arch support in my shoes from my foot doctor. Without them I had the very painful plantar fasciitis. After using arch supports the pain never returned. Make an appointment with a good foot doctor pediatrist I think they are called, and all the best with your walking!! 😀

Walk. No jumping yet, it is unnecessary in the early stages. Build your Walk from 15- 60min per day. And Eat only single Ingredient foods. Learn what foods and tastes suit you and look up cooking videos for those meals. If you need accountability and guidance, I provide coaching. Email me @ the link in description.

This interesting. I ran 10k in 39min. I got a small injury. Then I decided to do an experiment. I walked 10k in 64min 30se So 9.4kph ( 5.8mph) which I've now realised is quite abnormal ! I dont race walk. Just strict power walking form ( so just fast arms and stride ) is their anyone else here that can do 5.8mph on a power walk ?

Great!!!.....my best 10k run is 39:23 and 5k is 17:56. I got a calf injury preparing for a 5k so I opted to walk. My finish time was 32:12.....that's around 5.8 mph.....I'm 54 years old.

I do on avg 6.8mph each day I cover over 10k sometimes more.....started getting a bit boring so I'll maintain the same distance walked and through in a few burpees with the jump (like 20), followed by a 5 400m 80% effort runs and believe me many have been asking what it is I've been doing....down 46lbs in 5 months

As a 47 year old woman who runs and lift weight, I am confused what you are saying. And it’s not that I don’t understand, it’s that the way you are explaining it is confusing. I have watched a few of your videos thus far and the messaging is confusing. Some advice, stop with all the big words/ terminologies and get to the basics and answer the questions which is better. Yes give all the fact in each, but I am still confused on which one is best.
