Walking Backward is the best way to develop walking forward when transitioning from a heel strike to a forefoot walk.
There are numerous benefits of walking backwards, such as improved coordination, strengthening lesser used muscles, decreasing muscle imbalances, increased metabolism and walking speed.
In this video, I will show the benefits of walking backward and also the muscles that I believe benefit the most from walking backwards and how this method of walking will help improve your forward walking.

Great vocabulary! I walk backwards every day, for long stretches. I discovered that turning forward, then backwards, turning first one way, and then the other, really develops my hips, legs, knees, ankles and feet. For me, this video is confirmation of what I`ve been doing the last 3 months. Thanks for that!

I recently came across videos of doing various exercises backwards. And it reminded me of something I had long forgotten about. Back in high school, I played soccer and of course there were many things we did during practice. One drill we did was sprint backwards up a hill. Taking inspiration from that, I've been running and doing wind sprints backwards. I'm fortunate to live in an area with large grassy spaces.

Since my first viewing of this video, I've added barefoot walking an walking backwards to my daily walks, and feel that it's helped my forefoot walking tremendously. I've also added switching from backwards to forwards, either turning left or right, and looking all around, keeping my focus on a straight path. My balance has always been very good, but feel like this has kept me sharp. Another simple challenge is walking the tops of curbs on the way back home. Thank you for bringing your knowledge on this to the masses.

Yes! Reminds me of the years I spent walking backwards dancing tango, although that’s in high heels and with a lot of complex spinal rotation in the mix. Yesterday on my walk, I noticed it was much easier to train myself for a forefoot strike on a natural surface (uneven, with grass & stones) as opposed to the flat concrete pathway - would you say this could be a good starting out tactic ? Also, gotta question - do You feel that your heel touches the ground simultaneously with the outer part of the front of the foot (where the weight lands naturally) when walking ? Or does it touch the ground a moment AFTER ? Many thanks in advance 🙏
