You are amazing! Your care, precision, and great attitude…I cant tell you how valuable these videos are to me. The Max Lumi completely transformed my work flow, personal, spiritual, and emotional life. I am usually studying hundreds of papers/books and have so many projects to balance in my mind and thanks to this device, for first time in my life I have been able to keep it all well organized. You have been a huge part of that organization for which I am tremendously grateful. And to top it all off, you are a joy to watch. Also your MDO is excellent. Thank you for all you do. It really has helped changed my life much for the better. Really looking forward to the max lumi 2 deep guide, if your going to do it 🥰
Thank you very much! Unfortunately both the Lumi 2 and Note Air 2 are shipped onwards, so I no longer have them since last night, but my Note Air 1 has received the 3.2 update, so I will be making the guide videos that will be equally applicable on all devices :)
I totally agree with you with the functionality of parts like the button. I wish one could select on an app, and have options for it like: Disable the fingerprint button, to rotate the screen in landscape or portrait, to select what refresh speed one wants. to choose if one wants finger touch, or just pen touch. To turn Wifi and BT on or off. That would be a very simple menu that would give massive gains in functionality. Like for playing a video I would have it set for Landscape and X mode refresh. Oh and another thing that needs addressing is the lack of sound control on wireless display, ad you cannot keep the sound on the TV, yet turn off the volume on the Lumi.
Thanks for the detailed review. I was just about to purchase the Max Lumi2 figuring that it was just a larger Note Air2. I'm glad I watched your in-depth review. I'm disappointed that the Max Lumi2 has a different screen protector. I would find fingerprints on the screen to be really annoying. Also, accidentally activating the bottom button with one's forearm would be aggravating. Seems like these two things could be easily fixed by Boox.
Excellent, excellent thorough and objective review of the Lumi 2. A MUST-WATCH if you are considering buying or own this device. QUESTION: Can you recommend a paper like screen protector for the Lumi 2? Thank you 😁
Thank you so much for this review, this has been tremendously helpful!!!. I would use this mainly as a reader for academic journals and books, I've been frying my eyes reading 12+ hours off a PC screen for my PhD. But I'm unsure if going for this one or for the Max Lumi 1 at a lesser price. Its a tradeoff between the pen, the screen reflection, and trying to find the right screen protector, what would you suggest?
Great review, thanks. But I still have one question: Can it be connected as a second monitor. What do you use for this direct HDMI or and app? Is it better in that regard than the Lumi1? I know that they have the Mira, which has also great performance. But I'm interested in how much "Bang for you buck" you get with the Lumi2 vs Lumi1.
For Boox 13" devices, is there a keyboard case that would let me switch between writing and typing quickly (ideally 2 seconds)? Like the Smart Keyboard Folio for iPad Pros. Since Boox released the Tab 8" with 50% improvement in refresh rate and latency (you can watch videos with no ghosting now), if such keyboard case exists, then I would buy the Tab 13" (when it's released) instead of an iPad Pro.
It's interesting that when you describe the eROM storage as "massive" at 128 Gigs, we are in a world where MICRO SD cards half the size of a postage stamp can be had at a Terabyte. If this device had a micro SD card slot, like some telephones and pads have, one could easily move all your data to a new model in a few seconds, or to your PC/Mac to copy it as a file backup.
With fast internet and cloud storage options, I really don't see the mSD slot as a needed thing, what so ever, especially not on a device where you can install a 3rd party File Explorer solution that can communicate with other systems on your network, computers, NAS, server, whatever you may want. It's way faster and more practical to simply do copy, paste than, insert mSD, copy to mSD, take mSD out, insert mSD, paste from mSD, take mSD out.
i like this video finally i find someone who goes into detail!!! BRAVO! but even here you do not show some things that in my opinion are fundamental for those who have never had a device of this type in their hand and especially for the primary use of the device. the most important thing is how the device behaves in its primary function: creation and management of documents, reading and taking notes on books and slides. I really can't figure out which is the best 13 inch device. will you make this same video for the BIGME x6? I thought the best was the Boox Max Lumi 2 but after seeing this video of yours, it is absolutely not good, especially because of the button you accidentally press while writing. something I can't understand about the various devices: 1) does the palm create a disturbance? ruin the screen etc? in the first part of this video the palm, on this device, gave problems with evernote. maybe for the app. but in the long run the palm can ruin the screen? 2) fingerprints create problems in writing? 3) how can you cancel? is it comfortable, fast? 4) while I'm writing what happens when the page ends and you want to turn the page? how fast is the "page turn"? 4) once I create a file, after it is saved, can I later delete a few lines of text or it is seen as an image? i mean: can I work on/ edit a text document I have previously created? 5) how long does the screen last? tends to get scratched/ruined writing for a long time? 6) is it possible to create folders and subfolders for created files? the files are necessarily displayed with the icon with the preview or you can also view only the list. i mean, can you change the type of display of the files as you can do in the windows folders? 7) is there a copy and paste function (to a document to another)? 8) can bookmarks be created in handwritten documents and books? 9) are there any functions to quickly export underlines or notes taken in a book? 10) you talked about battery consumption while writing. but these devices are able to withstand a use of 6-8 hours of writing per day? can be used while the device is charging? thanks sorry if i bother with all these questions
USING WITH MUSIC SHEETS. Has somebody used Max Lumi 2 to read music sheets? Music sheets as normal pdf files? The reading experience is the same with Padu music specific readers?
Hi, Voja! Do you think Boox will launch a new 13.3 inch e-reader this autumn? Like a Lumi3 or something? I'm thinking about buying one for the size (I have eyesight problems), but it would be good to know if they are planning to address the issues you mentioned. I have no problems with the design, actually I quite like it but the glare and the fingerprint smudges would bother me, too. Thank for your answer!
Well, I was hoping for a Max Air last autumn, and unfortunately we got Max Lumi 2, which was not a real step up, and had some real issues when compared to the Max Lumi 1. So, this year, I hope for a Max Air again :) But they do tend to release new devices in the autumn, so we'll see what we get this year.
@@MyDeepGuide I’m thinking of getting a Note Air 2 (originally wanted Max Lumi 2 but was put off from the worse writing feel) should I wait to see if they release another device?
Hello Voja (hope i could spell your name correctly), thanks for the nice review as usual, i was wondering, do you think BOOX can possibly evaluate to change this pre-applied layer in order to improve it? Can you please ask them about this if you have the occasion?. I really would like to buy it, but, as you said, i'm a bit annoyed that a flagship device have this kind of issue, and yes...we can apply an improved layer,ì on top of it, but it will be very hard to apply it on a 13.3" device with bubble-free results, and also it will add some thickness to the screen that maybe can create some drawbacks with writing experience, i mean, some sort of "distance" from the pen tip to the drawn line. What do you think about?
This is an incredible review. Thank you. I apologize if you covered this and I missed it, but does it allow you to annotate/sketch/write inside kindle books?
Thank you :) No, this is something that the Kindle app doesn't have the support for. But if you find a way to convert a Kindle book to a PDF or an Epub, then you can bypass that limitation that way.
Hello, I just bought a Max Lumi 2 with the latest 3.2.1 firmware , so i'm not very familiar with the boox OS yet. I have a question to the community, in the note app I don't really understand how to use the triangle △ in the search option. I have been able to use the star * to spot some of my notes but how to use the triangle ? When I draw a triangle or use the triangular shape, the engine finds nothing. I have read the user manual but unfortunately I didn't find anything about that. Does someone can help me ? thx
Thank you for all your video’s Voja. I am a doctor who wants to use an eink device to take notes while consulting. Will using the handwriting function in gboard allow me to efficiently convert to text in a word document in the Lumi 2? I ask as it would be a huge efficiency for the admin side of my role.
Great review. For my use case - I need to be able to take notes (in a separate document) and keep PDF/existing documents open for annotation/markup. Since it's Android, I assume you should be able keep one in the background and quickly switch back and forth (without the side-by-side mode), but with the custom UI, doesn't look like you can quickly switch between apps?
I use split screen mode [with tablet in landscape] so the pdf is open on the left side and notes open on the right side of the screen. Both are big enough to read and make annotations etc. Works very well once you get the hang of the slightly complex software. Saves me hours.
Is it possible to take a copy of the part of the pdf to your notes? As it could be done on Ipad. For example, I'm reading a book and there is a graph that I would like to crop and insert into my note, could it be done on Lumi?
Not really, as I can only buy them from GoodEReader, and out of principle, I refuse to buy anything from them because of their business practices. Also, those devices are very expensive and the videos made about them would never gather enough interest to justify the expense of purchasing them.
DooDroo have dedicated screen protectors for the entire range, and those are quite good, but a little rough, so they will spend nibs more quickly than a slightly smoother one. There are also quite a few available on Amazon, so you have to check it out and see which seems the best choice based on reviews. Since I no longer have Max Lumi 2, I won't be able to test it out, but you do have my videos of testing a few protectors, so if it's the same brand, but a different size, that can also be helpful.
For the Max Lumi 1, I'm very very happy with Bellemond Kent Paper. No bubbles, and a satisfying scratchy feel. Transformed my Lumi's 1 writing experience from "ok" to "better than reMarkable 1" which I also own. It does wear down the nips, however, so I soon discovered that using the reMarkable 1 nibs instead meant that the nibs lasted far longer when writing on Bellemond Kent Paper. I'd imagine there might be better protectors out there in terms of reflectivity, but I found the reflectivity/diffusion on the Bellemond Kent Paper good enough for most purposes. And when I do encounter issues, I find that truing on the front light solves the problem, or even better still moving the Lumi away from the source of the light if possible.
@@FirasSawaf May i know if the Bellemond Kent Paper has the same blurry text issue as on the official screen protector in the original package of Max Lumi?
@@felekslodowy1450 that's right, the size is pretty close, so I was able to fit directly without having to do any trimming or similar. The notch for the button at the bottom of the protector nicely frames the Boox logo (on the Lumi 1) so that worked out well too. I'd encourage you to give it a go, I doubt you'd be disappointed.
Thanks for the review, is the reading experience on Max Lumi 2 worth the price difference over Max Lumi (1), especially since its currently selling for $699?
Hi! Your videos are WONDERFULLY helpful! Thank you! Can you help me with something specific? I need an e-ink tablet that has great handwriting to text conversion and I am against paying remarkable $8 a month for the service. I am between the supernote a6x and the Boox note air 2. I watched your comparison video but it didn’t find an answer because the 2 wasn’t out yet. I like supernote a LOT from what I see on your reviews with the ballpoint pen feel and no spend nib, but I’ve heard their conversion software is not good. Is there a work around for this? Thanks in advance for your time and any advice you may have for me! ❤️
The Supernote handwriting to text works page by page on Word documents only. For Notes, it only converts titles and keywords. You can copy/paste one to another, and other languages than English are not supported at the moment. However, it is a great company, with a transparent roadmap, and several improvements of the points above are on their roadmap, which they do actually follow!
I was wondering if you used the monitor function of the Lumi 1 - I was all set to put out the money for the Lumi 2 then I realized that it wasn't a dual purpose device. Yes, there are software workarounds but the dual functionality is very appealing. Are the pros of the Lumi2 worth the loss of the port?
The port really isn't any loss, if I am honest, as there are a lot of apps available, that will allow you to use it as an external monitor, for example Super Display or Space desk.
Do you have any product reccomendation specifically for max lumi screen protector. Do you know if the 12.9 ipad ones fit the screen ok or is there something specific for the max lumi?

How do I download the MDO I purchased from you onto my new Boox 13.3 max Lumi 2? I watched your videos but my device doesn't have the same icons as yours. Very frustrated at Boox and the very poor user manual.
You should watch the installation instructions video, as that will help you understand how to unzip the downloaded package. Transferring is same as any other PDF file, and if you don't know how to do that, a few options are shown in the video, or you could read the Boox user manual to learn how to do basic operations with the device. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-IBEVYij9nyo.html
@@MyDeepGuide Your icons are different than mine. I figured it out on my own which is shocking. I gave my sin the remarkable as he is in college. I watched your review and bought the 13.3 Boox Onyx Lumi 2. I needed a larger screen. Also, I am shocked my son has never heard of these note-taking devices. I used your MDO 2021 and now 2022. I am 55 and computers are hard for me. I am shocked at how awful the user manual is for the Boox company. Hopefully, in 2023 you can develop 2023 to change my notes into text? Thank you for MDO it is wonderful.
Is there a way to make the device password be entered before the device contents can be accessed via the usb connection? My work requires that any information about students (eg their names, ID numbers, grades, any disciplinary information, etc), not put put on a device such as a USB stick that is not encrypted. Similarly, on my other android tablets I set the usb connection so that the content I am required to safeguard cannot be accessed if someone were to connect to the device if I lost it, or it were stolen.
By default if you plug in a USB cable, it should simply charge, and not allow file transfer. Once the screen is unlocked, you can swipe down the notifications panel and then change the USB connection functionality to file transfer, and then the device will be recognized as a drive.
is there a way to have the file chooser recognize subdirectories? For example, under the "Documents" directory I have subdirectories for documents related to different tasks, but when I go to "Storage" and then open "Documents" I do not see any subdirectories, just a massive pile of all the documents contained in all the subdirectories...
It sounds like you might be mixing up the Shelves (which are the "folders" you can create I'm the library) and actual storage folders. Unless your Library is set to be in Directory mode, what you are doing there is creating shelves and sub shelves. The purpose of this is to have all of your documents stored in one storage directory, for example, but also have the ability to visually sort and organize them in your library. If you want to operate with the actual directories in your library, you have to switch it to the directory mode, and then the modifications you do in the Library will be reflected in the Storage as well.
I'm not sure I understand what do you mean when you say "activate a side"? You need to be in an app that supports split screen mode, activate it and choose if you want to use the horizonal or vertical split mode.
@@MyDeepGuide I think he is asking if it is necessary to tap on one side to focus the application to write something down, while he is scrolling through a web page on the other side.
Hey! Thank you very much for all these very detailed videos. As a student sometimes I have to take screenshots of slideshows and make notes on them. If it was possible to do this on the lumi2, that would be awesome, and would be like a deal-maker for me. Does anyone know if you can use the split screen view while watching videos on youtube or other video platforms on the internet?
According to Boox help, you can add a screenshot shortcut to the navigation ball. Also system-wide split-screen is supported since version 3.0. Your use case should be doable.
That's a tricky question, because it depends on if you want to just read, or have the ability to also scribble, mark up, annotate, select text, bookmark etc. Most complete and enjoyable functionality, for me, would the Boox Max Lumi 1 (not 2). However, if you don't need scribbling and advanced formatting options, and you just want a large format reader, the. Papyr, with it's latest update finally has a read (although a limited one) and that offers a very enjoyable, but somewhat rudimentary functionality.
