Actors do this extremely specific process that takes months which includes purposeful mass dehydration, only to look like that for the shooting days. So like a week. Then it’s gone and you have to recoup your body, another months long process. Dude was ripped for a week in a shitty movie no one is gonna remember he was even in.

You forgot hiring people that can't even do their job and barely have any experience in it. Like, you could make this a good movie and not follow the Borderlands story, but they didn't even manage to do that, that's the real sad part.

Yet everyone thought that using the vault key to open the vault would kill tina. So yeah they saved her from being the key to open the vault from Atlas, to wanting to use Tina to open the vault for themselves.
I genuinely don't know how shit like this even gets funded. I miss the days when studio execs weren't afraid to try new things, but also knew when to NOT throw hundreds of millions at stupid projects.
The second I saw the casting and the lack of male characters (Brick, Mordecai and Salvador springs to mind), I knew I was just going to watch your review instead of bothering to waste my money. I also just knew they would butcher Krieg and Tiny Tina...in fact, all of the characters.

The original voice of Claptrap exposed the boss of being abusive so the character changed to just being very loud and very unfunny to try to sweep the real life abuse under the rug.
It's such a miss, all they had to do was get the original voice actor, and let him swear. People would've recognized him and liked it or at least been ok with it, instead they disrespected everyone by having Jack Black do an imitation of it.

Strong, independent women used to be characters like Sarah Connor, Ellen Ripley, Captain Janeway, Dana Scully, Princess Leia, and of course, the legendary Éowyn. Now we either get mary sues with the personality of a wet paper towel, or we get bullies who are mean to everyone around them.
Terrible casting, actors 30 years too old for their roles, Jack Black who is currently a political death pill right now due to his open calls for violence against people who refuse to think like he wants them to, Kevin Hart who hasn't been funny in 15 years and recycles the same old material every day, no script, and no understanding what the actual base material is about. This was DOA when pen went to paper with the scriptwriters and casting agents years ago.
Knowing Eli roth I'm sure that the original concept included tons of blood, gore, and swearing, but he studio nerfed it down to pg13 and potential this movie had was lost.

Oh gosh now I'm just hoping it's AT LEAST mediocre. Minecraft holds immense value to me for being my childhood game. If they make that game into an abomination, I'm gonna be disappointed. Won't ruin my perception because I find my own fanfic ideas of MC to be more, lore filled and fun. But, well, I can't see how to adapt a sandbox game into some linear story. But from what I've heard from the leaks... it isn't looking good. I really hope they don't ruin the Minecraft movie, for the love of Notch they better not butcher his creation.

It's a shame, you know. These older actors like Blanchett and Curtis can act, but aren't up for the physicality and the script doesn't give them a chance to act. So what's the point of having older actors who can act when the script won't let them?
It literally comes down to the brain-dead asshats behind the movie having zero faith in people actually being interested in the trash they've produced, so they attach some big name actors to it because they're dumb enough to think that'll actually generate some sort of interest.
Actually that makes much more sense. Double Dragon would also make the best animes, mangas and OVAs. But instead we got an off-brand comic book, a cheesy animated series by DIC, and a crappy live-action movie.

If you're a fan of the games, you will not like this - and if you're a fan of movies in general, YOU WILL STILL NOT LIKE THIS! Ill never understand Hollywood's obsession with making film/television adaptations from all different kinds of media that are written/directed by people who don't care about/actively hate the source material. The Witcher, Halo, Resident Evil, Monster Hunter, Cowboy Bebop, Velma, She-Hulk, Picard, Dr. Who, Rings of Power, and the list goes on and on of productions where the people making it actively ignore or flat out try to go against what people liked about the thing their trying to adapt. We live in a world where Sonic the Hedgehog is an extremely popular and profitable film franchise now because the people behind it cared about it enough to enjoy what they were making. Yet despite that, they seem contempt with crapping out these Uwe Boll level productions for millions of dollars and are always surprised and or angry at fans when they flop.
Late reply but as a Monhun fan I still periodically explode on rants about the absolute disaster of a movie Paul W.S. Anderson made about it. Literally all they had to do was make a Walking With Dinosaurs clone showing off the monster ecology for like an hour thirty and everyone would've been happy, or they could've just done the standard-issue "Go kill a bunch of bosses until you reach the big bad flagship boss and then kill that, oh no it turns out there was actually a SUPER big bad boss hidden behind the flagship boss now go kill that too" plot structure all the games follow. Instead we get a weird reverse isekai mishmash that just takes random MH creatures and tosses them into a generic action movie. Blech.
@Splobkingofsplob I've only ever played MH:W myself, and even I was questioning why they needed to do the isakai thing. You'd think the concept of "Fantasy world, Monsters exist in it, People hunt them with cool fantasy weapons, Big monster appears, hunters go kill it with cool fantasy weapons" would have been enough to carry a 90 min film. But no, it was like its some crazy concept that wouldn't translate properly to film, so they had to change everything about it to appeal to mass audiences. So instead of MH fans liking it and general audiences feeling ok about it, nobody likes it, and now they'll probably not try it again for a long time, if ever.
Cool to hear someone else describing projects like this as a skinsuit. That's how I described the Halo series, and I'm sure I wasn't the only one to use that word. It's obviously the go-to method for the woke locusts who crawl into an IP, extract whatever value they can, then move on to the next while the leftover husk rots behind them. They see fanbases as nothing but tools for them to use in order to legitimize a project that they know wouldn't get anywhere near the same level of attention otherwise. Thankfully people are wising up to this tactic.
Never liked Eli Roth as a director, all he ever had going for him was his willingness to push the R-rating to the very limit but his movies were otherwise just exploitation trash. And this movie is a PG-13 in a time when the rating is so limited.
There's a phrase that defines this trash perfectly. "Tell us you've never played the games, without actually telling us." These people saw tiny tidbits of the games, then took those and decided to make a film off of what little information they had. And what we're left with is nothing more, but a poor attempt of a film based off a great video game series.
I actually looked up Lilith's age. She's 22. Not her late twenties her early twenties. Cate blanchett is literally 33 years older than the character she is playing. Amy Lee Curtis is also 30 years older than the character she plays. The characters she plays is supposed to be somewhere in her thirties she's 65. Also tiny Tina's supposed to have blue eyes. Hard to find a Hispanic actress with blue eyes huh? Not that Tina is supposed to be Hispanic but we can't have young white actresses playing young white characters now can we? (Yes I've heard Tina is the best part of the movie but she does not suit the character.)
Lilith's profile for the first game states she's 27, which makes sense as in older game materials she is referred to as a scientist. But yes, casting is inconceivable and unfuckingbelievable.

Sonic was almost close. If they didn’t make the decision to redesign him then there would’ve be one movie and the entire Sonic Movie franchise doesn’t exist. But they did redesign him and now I’m really looking forward to the third movie coming out this year as that’s the only movie I’m hyped for.
Eli Roth has always been mediocre. Plus his acting is atrocious. He was okayish in Inglorious Basterds, but any other actor would've done BETTER. Jack Black and Kevin Hart suck majorly as well. I avoid their stuff as often as possible.

In the first game there is barely any audio outside of written text between missions, there might be some text I don't remember on character selection for Lilith. You might be thinking about Borderlands 2 with Maya and audio logs littered around the research labs about her being raised by a cult. In the games the motivation has always been for players to find the Vault and the riches inside. Player stories have always been shallow in this series unless they become an NPC in the sequel game.
nope. as was already said, you may be mistaking her for Maya from 2. Or, if you are actually thinking of Lilith, you're still thinking of info that wasn't written until the later games. In 1, all the playable characters, including Lilith, were very shallow, basically all their lore was just the synopsis given at character select, and all of their motivations were basically "find vault > get rich".
I don’t understand why Hollywood has such a hard time making good video game movies. A lot of these movies write themselves. I’m dreading the Zelda movie. I just know it’s going to be mediocre at best, which is a shame because it could be as great as peak Game of Thrones if done well.
The only legit good/decent video game film they made was Prince Of Persia The Sands of Time(2010) and that was 14 years ago and that was from Disney back when they were good. SMH

I was wondering who Jamie Lee Curtis and Kevin Hart were supposed to be playing. But Holy fuck, Tannis and Roland?! That has to be the worst casting in history. Then again I only recognised Lilith because they slapped the hair thing on Cate Blanchett's head.
I gotta be honest I had no hope for this once the cast list was released. None of them look or act like the characters they are supposed to portray at all. This basically feels like a generic Sci Fi movie with a thin layer of Borderlands paint slapped on top.
