My head canon is that the deer's temporarily broke the fourth wall and saw the script for the show. Upon seeing it , they were like 'no sir' and just yeted themselves off the cliff to avoid what was going to happen next.
@@paulgrant666 What's even worse is that it has a higher critic score on Rotten Tomatoes than Season 1. Just shows what dogshit critic reviews are nowadays.
I’m not a Native (not even American) but I feel like all this pandering to Natives by leftists and them Kumbaya-ifying your pre-Contact societies is a second colonisation. What do you think?
@@johndickie6449 First off, Navarro is played by a Cherokee actress, from Massachusetts, not an Inuit, so that was kinda racist, as she is not a representation of my culture or people. The rune found on the murdered scientists body is meaningless, not to mention the fact that the scientists where murdered in a horrifyingly sadistic and cruel way, by Inuit women, who based it off a vision? Something that does not happen everyone, at the same time, so i guess the show runners think thats something we do . Danvers daughter is a gay pedophile, once again something that is disgusting, and is not tolerated in our culture. The ghost bs is not something our culture believes in. The magic dna is fake. Also I don't really know why they are protesting the mine, a lot of our communities have no economic opportunities, and these mines, fisheries ect provide much needed income for people. Overall, this show only uses or culture for the brownie points and turns it into a caricature. 0/10 stars.
As an aspiring author, I often suffer from impostor syndrome: that I am just wasting my time, I'm not talented or good enough to produce work that will entertain people, that many others are so better than me, I'm piddling into the wind. Then Reaper shows me absolute cat vomit like this, and I perk right up and get back to work.
Keep at it. Couldn’t possibly be worse than things I’ve seen. Though I imagine many of these industry writers started the same, and were essentially manipulated into making a pre approved story. It’s hard to keep your beliefs when faces with making it, or never being published. Ya know?
If anything the last decade in western media has made me not feel so bad about my amateur writing as no one at current Hollywood can write a movie/show if their very lives depended on it.
I am so thankful for that first season, what an absolute masterpiece. Crazy how this show went nowhere after producing one of the best seasons of TV ever.
This is the thing with men. They act like you and they wonder why women hate them. Men are always angry about something. You, the jobless incel making this video, men destroy humanity since day 1. It's full of series where men are crazy, destroying everything (like in real life). Does somebody say something to them? You see women creating videos about how horrible are the usual not smiling men destroying stuff around when they should be at home smiling???? This is utter sexism. You are the problem.
If you told me in the early 2000s that Matthew McConaughey was gonna play a better detective than Jodie Foster, I would have laughed my ass off. But here we are.
also, one more thing: the researchers had NO PROBLEM jumping in on murdering a woman, but sat there like impotent little bitches when being rounded up and marched out to certain death. just absolutely astounding writing.
I guarantee you that if those roles were reversed, woke activists would have lost their damn minds. Unfortunately, we normal people who are striving for good entertainment have.🤦🏻
@@liamphibia oh absolutely. every man in the whole show was a little bitch boy. the women even controlled them during sex, which is preposterous because I've never once in my life heard a woman say what she wants from a man during sex is some weak little malleable boy she can boss around.

They never say that?? The women have flaws and make plenty of mistakes (sth that makes the opposite of the stereotype of the 'strong female charcater'), the fact that they have to be punished for it onscreen for you to understand that those are flaws is your own fault
@kristinalfc5846 If a man was ever depicted that way, you'd be calling it unrealistic and bad. You're literally defending it just because the character is female.
@@kristinalfc5846 Jodie adult child groomed an underage girl and filmed an explicit video with them. This isn’t brought up as horrific. It’s barely brought up once.
Misandry is the message in this story. Putting men down. The whole story takes place in a region so hostile that the population is 75% male, yet it's impossible to determine that from the story told. There are a lot of story arcs that could have been told to empower women in this region that wouldn't have been toxic to the men that actually live and work in those conditions.
That thing with electrodes in her cheeks? She doesn't look or act even remotely like an Inuit. Having her play an Inuit because she's Cherokee is a bit like casting a Japanese person because the character is Chinese so they're both 'yellow', then having her play the Chinese person like a negative Japanese stereotype despite the history of bad blood between China and Japan.
@@sheepherder911didn't you know? Blacks are literally every indigenous person. There's even a guy on yootube that posts old paintings showing how blacks were everywhere.
She didn't look or act anything like a police officer either. No police force in the world allows piercings because of the potential weakness they cause in a fight. Also, metal piercings in your face in a subfreezing environment is just dumb.
It made me quite angry to watch, because the writer took all the worst parts of rust cohle and marty stuck them into female characters and basically said "well if you liked series 1 and don't like series 4 its because you have a problem with women..." No, series 1 was about 2 men overcoming their flaws for the greater good, while season 4 was basically just 2 women being told you're not the problem, society is!
@@rebotsomat2341 personally i think rust cohle is a terrible cop. He assaults suspects, breaks chains of evidence, steals evidence, puts civilians in jeopardy on multiple occasions and his mindfuk interrogation tactics are the sort of thing that netflix would make whole miniseries about. He's also a pain in butt to work with, which in a serial killer investigation that requires multiple agencies working together, he'd be a hindrance not a help. He needed marty to solve the case more that marty need him imo.
OMFG I didn't even know the supernatural elements got blatant either lol. Season 1 was perfect because the Supernatural elements were more subtle and for people already in the KNOW of cosmic horror. Nothing had to explained about the King in Yellow, it was all ominous and ethereal, merely hushed talk as Rust and Marty try to catch a serial killer. And Rust's hallucinations could just be chalked up to that rather than his mind actually being able to see reality for it truly is. This season... This is CW levels of cringe.
@@NormieNerddomIts even more pathetic when you find out the original pitch for this season had nothing to do with True Detective at all. HBO just decided to pick this garbage script up and tie it into the TD universe since nobody would've watched it if it was a standalone show

The whole rant by Navarro about "if it was a white woman" the whole police force would have been out helping is unironically a hilarous blindspot as both the town sheriff and a state trooper seemingly forgot about the 6 dead men for most of the show and didn't really care about their deaths. The actual murderers of the men seems like a real oversight that was tacked on at the end as the writer/director forgot they had to wrap it up. It would have been much better received without being under the truth detective brand and the cheap attempts to tie into season 1 that never went aynwhere. The 2020's where quality, interesting and involving tv came to die
We must not forget that nobody in a small city saw 30 lady going out in the night with heavy weaponry they somehow acquired right towards the research facility. This facility that has no guards eventhough they possess a miraculous DNA that can change the world We live in.
Not defending the show, but that’s polar bear territory and hunting land. It’s unusual for people including women not to have hunting rifles in their vehicles. It’s also one of the most isolated low population places on earth so that part at least isn’t outrageous.

If typing the title of the show into a search bar and scrolling through a handful of comments to find these people is too arduous a task for you I honestly don't know what else to tell you. It's mostly people who misinterpreted S1 as including actual supernatural elements and insisting that people are too picky these days...as if audiences haven't been creaming themselves over lowest common denominator Disney/Netflix slop for more than a decade. Critical praise was clearly purchased but most of the normies comprising the masses are unbelievably smooth-brained (talking about people incapable of the slightest hint of media literacy who would never even use social media aside from FB, insta, and of course TikTok and all of those mostly for mindless scrolling . Every scene between the native cop and her boyfriend is maximum cringe. They basically give him beat-for-beat "worried girlfriend" behavior: -he's always submissive to her in bed, and she chokes him to assert dominance even though he's twice her size -she walks in on him in a fucking BUBBLE BATH WITH CANDLES like he's having an Eat Pray Love moment or something -he acts as the little spoon in bed and pulls her arm over his chest for comfort because he's so damn worried about her They literally just took a chick role and gave it to a man in order to make native cop lady look more dominant.
The real problem is that the actor, or any other actor, agreed to do that. How big of a female canine you have to be to take a job where you create propaganda against yourself?
That's all they know how to do. They don't know how to write that type of part so they literally just swap the female to a male and keep everything exactly the same.

Reaper had a meltdown on this show in the Critical Drinker's Open Bar. And it was so much more fun, hilarious & entertaining to listen to than this revolting abomination of a show.
Chronologically: The two main characters were cops who killed someone instead of taking them in, and then disposed of the body and covered it up. They then Investigate murders, lead a hitman to the critical witness and, he kills the witness and a new cop kills the hitman, his father, in justified self defense. They instead decide to, dispose of the body and cover it up. Finally they discover that a company that found untainted DNA that could cure cancer, mental illness, depression or birth defects, and were trying to find a way to get it by less than legal means. One girl discovers what they are doing, and instead of going to the cops, she goes crazy destroying everything. One of the researchers kills her to make her stop, and then for some reason after she is fatally wounded the rest join in, then she comes back to life and they kill her again. So what do they do? They decide to: Dispose of the body and cover it up. So after finding and beating the info out of the last researcher, he reveals everything and then the two cops want him dead and then kill him. They check for fingerprints and discover some other women discovered, miraculously about the murder and steal all the researchers (Except the one they needed to explain the plot) and then murder them by stripping them naked and forcing them in the snow. The two cops discover this, and since they already found the body's they decide to: Cover it up. The end. This isnt even creative, it's literally the same answer every single time. Corrupt actions, kill or brutalize someone and then cover it up and throw in some Twin peaks shit, people ate that up! It feels like that one MST3K scene where the answer is "Dull surprise" for every reveal but instead its, "Dispose of the body and cover it up."
Sounds like Reaper went pretty soft on this show and didnt use "r'tarded" nearly enough times to describe just how many extra chromosomes this show had.

@@billusher2265 HBO execs probably weren't compelled to purchase critical praise for two seasons of television sharing a franchise with one of the most beloved, heavily lauded seasons of television of all time, especially with the same head-writer helming all three. All of these seasons were over and done with before AT&T took over HBO, rebranded the streaming service as Max and began pushing it as a serious contender. They wanted Night Country to be a flagship girl-boss series which also capitalized on TD name recognition. Invested heavily into advertising this mess all over the place to drive subscription numbers. I wouldn't be surprised at all if the half of the critics they clearly bribed to praise this trainwreck didn't see a single frame. Critics are also otherwise motivated to approve series featuring token nods to Far Left interests in order to signal that they're on the 'right side of history,' don't imagine studio execs aren't cognizant of this as well. They already successfully used wokeification to distract and shield the crappy Watchmen series from legitimate criticism too.
"True Detective season one is male and sweaty, Night Country is cold, dark and female." Uh *NO* Issa Lopez. The difference between True Detective season one and *YOUR* fanfiction is that True Detective season one told a story, was gritty, has great acting, *GOOD WRITING AND NO POLITICS* and made you think about the actions of the characters. I understand why they included supernatural stuff. That's the difference between good writing and this dreck.
That's just one of the many things that made season 1 so great. It had little implications that made you feel like there could be more seasons set in that world, or following some hints and expanding upon them. What it didn't have were dancing ghosts and shit characters like this one.

One brilliant thing about the first season is how it could subtly be read to be a Lovecraftian thriller, and still be enjoyed entirely as a crime drama. I doubt these new guys could even make a decent horror film.

I have truly come to believe that writers of such tripe actually hate women and think women are weak. I've been married for almost 10 years, never would I consider my wife as weak. It's such a telltale sign when they simply reverse the roles of their own strawman :D Any dude acting like these women would be fired from his job or at least disciplined.
They were so desperate to make a woke girl boss Twin Peaks, they cringed themselves into oblivion. I refuse to accept this incomprehensible garbage as a part of True Detective franchise. I'm even willing to bump up season 2 from "bad" to "mediocre" after this. P. S. The only plot twist that could have maaaybe probably redeemed all this batshittery for me in the end would be if it turned out that these "scientists" just let out some virus/toxin or whatever that made the whole town violently hallucinate and behave like complete idiots. You know, a bit like that viral reddit story about a guy who unknowingly got carbon monoxide poisoning? Instead we just got "industrial pollution bad" statement. This whole season is like these stupid performances by eco activists where they pour soup over paintings in museums.
Season 1 had a lot of Lovecraftian elements - like Carcosa, which is in Cthulhu Mythis lore, the home world of Hastur the King in Yellow, a horrific entity that infects the creative minds with his madness. But the deeper implied cosmic horror behind all these implications was handled super masterfully. Now we're straight up raising the dead. Tf happened.
All of the supernatural things in that season could be interpreted as being in Rust’s head, none of it is necessary to the plot, that’s the difference. You don’t know if rust is just crazy and has brain damage or if there is something more going on, or a mix, and you never know, it’s ambiguous and very well done.
Yeah and its always Rust seeing the occasional weird stuff that happens but there's plausible deniability of it being actually real because Rust is stated to have hallucinations and episodes of psychosis from years of drug abuse from when he was undercover leaving his brain fried.
My second favorite part is when they break and enter into someone’s house without a warrant and are held at gunpoint. Then the next episode they go to the SAME HOUSE and break in again without a warrant. No consequences, it was hilarious.
There are plenty of examples films and television that could be considered diverse, created by females or female led, and which are amazing. For example Silence of the Lambs, Alien, Harry Potter or Kathryn Bigelow’s entire filmography. Yet suddenly we have a shift where media is praised for who made it, who stars in it, and the social messages contained within, rather than its actual direction, editing, writing or performances. It’s a scary trend that will result in heaps of poor quality content for who knows how long. The people praising this show are either watching out for their own careers and afraid to criticize it, or are morons incapable of recognizing the deep flaws of NC. It is by far one of the worst shows I have ever seen, there is nothing redeeming about it and the ending was absolutely ridiculous. RIP True Detective.
I finished the first season a few months ago and it was one of the best shows I'd ever seen. I did not watch the other seasons because all I kept hearing was how terrible they were. It's a shame. Also I saw your rant on open bar, absolutely priceless 😂
You know how sometimes people watch a show from say the 50s or 60s and they say, "Man, those were way different times. Some stuff was kinda messed up, but it was normal for the time. Good thing that times have changed and we don't live like that anymore." I pray to every god imaginable that people say the same thing about this show in the future. Same for Velma, Rings of Power, and all these other shows that demonstrate nothing but pure hatred for anyone that's not on their socio-political team, or even people that aren't of the same gender, skin color, or heritage. It's actually disgusting seeing just hateful and prejudiced content made by people that proudly proclaim to be on the right side of history.
Honestly, I never wanted to watch this show simply because HBO Max CONSTANTLY advertised this show on every single commercial break. I’m pretty sure I have the ad memorized.
I watched maybe 20 minutes of the first episode and had to stop. I didn’t even know the nick pizza guy had nothing to do with this, what a relief. And I loved the the second season especially Colin Farrel’s character and how hard he was trying with his son and how he and adam’s character found each other. Thanks for doing this so I didn’t have to wonder if I was just missing something in this season.
Man, I have to be honest here. I was truly looking forward to watch this season. The first one was epic. Top cable TV. The second was, indeed, a bummer. The third wasn't that bad; not as good as the first, but ok. In retrospect, I may have enjoyed it because the second was a real mess. So, when I learned the fourth season was going to star Jodie Foster, in what I believe is her first TV role, I thoguht "Damn!" Well, nobody is safe with today's TV productions. Thanks for saving me at least 5 hours of my life.
It's so cathartic to have someone like you voice my pent up annoyance for sticking it out for the whole season just to see the train wreck ending. Each episode legitimately got progressively worse. Hate that I helped get it a second season for watching but, I definitely won't be watching the next! "Fool me once.." and all that.
True Detective season 1 is legit one of the best seasons of tv ever made. Perfectly acted and paced and it's written so so well. Why is it that every other season of the show is complete dogshit? I can't think of a quicker and harder fall from grace than True Detective had.
The most unlikeable person from the show is Issa Lopez. She gives us liberal Democrats a bad name. When tv is all just about The MESSAGE and being an activist at the expense of a good story we are all lost.
It’s so strange that female writers want to attribute characteristics they view as positive and empowering, only for the audience to recognize that these qualities are founded in male culture. So which is it? Is it toxic to hold these characteristics, or positive? Unfortunately one is going to receive a coherent answer that isn’t borderline anti male…
Pro-cop? First I ever heard anyone say that about the Wire. I would be interested in knowing Reapeer's thoughts on Issla Lopez's other work that has gained better reception like Tigers Are Not Afraid. Guillermo Toro I think was involved with that.@@jasonvoorhees5640
Pitch meeting for this show must've went something like: "Ok, what is the thing that men absolutely love the most about heroes? Riiight, obviously, men love heroes that are incompetent, violent, unhinged, without any impulse control, abusive to their partners, narcissistic and unable to deal with their own issues so they keep blaming everyone around them. So let's give them exactly what they want and love but make it a woman so that it challenges their outdated sensibilities that women can't have all these positive attributes" ???? It's honestly bit worrying that we keep getting these pieces of media, like Ex Machina, Westworld, Last of US II, anything from Marvel lately, where the authors don't seem to have any understanding of human morality and positive traits whatsoever.
This show reminds me of Barbie. It’s so woke it actually argues the opposite of what the creators intended. This show demonstrates why women should not be in charge
