Boris Johnson's missing WhatsApps were under the microscope at the very start of the former PM's evidence to the Covid Inquiry this morning. Subscribe to our new podcast now, or you're a silly goose: linktr.ee/pubcast
So the police can retrieve messages and other items that were wiped from phones, tablets, computers etc, but the covid enquiry can't find any tech wizards to retrieve Bojo's whatsapp messages? Got it.
Same as every other time someone over a certain financial situation is in trouble, all of a sudden the police forget how to investigate anything. You would have more chance of sitting down for a conversation with Queen Victoria than getting a politician to face punishment (going by your username 😜)
@@williamdoyle1108I'm not sure but I think when you use WhatsApp you connect to WhatsApp servers, much like when you use Google you connect to Google servers. I think, therefore, Boris's messages are still on a WhatsApp server.
@@williamdoyle1108 they exist, and they do work to an extent. When you delete something it doesn't really get rid of it, just marks the address in memory write-able by other operations. So when you wipe it the data still exists until something writes over it. There are wipe options that "zero" a device, where after wiping it it writes a zero over everything. Even these are recoverable sometimes, it just depends how many writes have taken place as there are still traces. Remember, digital storage is still on physical media somewhere. It doesn't just exist in a void.
@@williamdoyle1108 nothing ever gets deleted, or do you still trust a button on your mobile to do what is written on it ? like a "don't collect personal data"-checkbox :) the only way to delete digital data is to shredder the hardware - twice, but backups are stored on every server a message passes, and people like to store everything in the cloud (which is just a simple server somewhere), and this servers do daily backups, which you can restore anytime. even printers store the data you print, or what is harddrive in a printer for? you might think of encryption, forget about it. having secrets? keep them in your head. note: that is not a conspiracy theory, its simple technical fact - me working in this sector.
No? Not the answer? How about the phone went into space like elon musk's first electric space-pollution roadster. And then came back to earth - gosh, red-hot - and self-combusted in my back garden! Which was nice.
“Factory reset?” He can’t claim to be that stupid after convincing everyone he had enough intelligence to lead the country. He keeps messing his hair up to make himself look like a harmless idiot too. He knows exactly what he’s doing.
We should push for perjury charges. Needs something clear and solid though. Might be something regarding the phone can be proven . Ie place/time reset? Possibly
I can’t believe he still keeps such a cheeky smile while he was responsible for the loss of so many lives and the trauma that the ones who had been there, had to get through
The disappearance of the WhatsApp data should be treated as contempt of Court, this would enable the Court to punish the defendant for withholding evidence ...
As an expert in data engineering, it's impossible for WhatsApp messages to disappear. Impossible. As long as you have a WhatsApp account any message can be retrieved, even deleted ones.
@@First_Principals Malfeasance in public office IS an offence - punishable by up to life imprisonment. In severity, it ranks alongside murder and treason
It's deeply disturbing having insight to the sheer level of incompetence in our government. I can see this country collapsing if we don't get competent people in quick.
Sadly, there isn’t much incentive for competent and honest people to become politicians. The money ain’t great and social media makes your private life public. Which leaves the door open for sociopaths and incompetents and chancers.
At 07:29 Johnson was unaware of the toxic language used - as evidenced in the WhatsApp messages by the KC He lies continuously without any self-awareness or shame.
"Factory Reset"...saying this as though he's not got a clue!...his phone magically deleted itself! probably with any damning evidence?...what a surprise! he's a complete lying disgrace!!
He is a master manipulator. There is zero chance that he would be unaware of how to hide his messaging. IT's the sort of thing people like him will learn first about any technology.@@TomJK2001
@@Lummy62 I don't own a mobile phone, but I assume the data/messages like my emails are held externally from my device and only my contacts are held locally, as the number of messages that have gone missing is in the thousands
We all know why those “WhatsApp’s” disappeared. We all know. He was openly texting people about how he doesn’t care for human life, saying rotten things about the public and colleagues, and probably some sort of corruption too. It’s a disgrace this man was PM. Shame on anyone that voted for him.
Shame on those that didnt, the death count would have been far higher had vaccines been gifted to the EU at the expese of British lives as the left and EUrophiles wanted.
This is the guy who told you to stay at home and obey lock down rules, stay away from loved ones and all the other BS and he just literally laughed in your face and now some BS about WhatsApp messaged being conveniently erased! I think we get the picture what sort of guy Boris is !
So, if Boris is to believed, he doesn't know or understand what a 'factory reset' is on a mobile phone. Even my grandmother managed to Factory reset her phone without guidance. ... he's either lying, or he's dangerously incompetent. Considering he was Prime Minister of the UK for several years... I'm not sure which is worse.
What i find eye opening about this enquiry is the utter disdain everyone has for eachother. I knew i didn't trust half of these characters- i assumed they at least trusted eachother seeing as they were being placed onto roles by those same people. Watching this, you see that people get put into positions with no reasoning and are shortly after discovered to be utterly useless.
Zero accountability, this hearing proves nothing except nobody involved will be held accountable or punished like any CEO, Director, or employee in the private sector!
This lawyer must be shattered when he goes home at night. The mps just have to appear for a couple of days this poor man doing it every day. His brain must be frazzled, so much concentration. Well done to him.
I still can't understand why government business was allowed to be carried out on WhatsApp, knowing that all contacts should be recorded daily, how can they just 'lose' messages.
Using WhatsApp for government business is palpably ilegal in a few European countries. Because those messages can be deleted, and because WhatsApp is owned by an American company. I know because I have created equivalents that a couple governments use (and own) instead of WhatsApp. No reason for UK to use WhatsApp, unless they explicitly want to delete messages and have unsupervised conversation with non-government people (donors?). And of course, don't care about USA knowing everything you write.
Johnson trying to misdirect and spin disclosure of the WhatsApp’s as some sort of voluntary transparency, when in fact the only reason they were needed is because this government was conducting business through opaque channels. Nothing to do with the “texture” of the personalities. We all know why they were using WhatsApp - to try and avoid public record.
And that the exact period that would be relevant to the Covid Enquiry is somehow “lost” because WhatsApp was apparently down. Funny, because I have almost exclusively used WhatsApp to communicate with individuals and groups for the past 7 years or so and it hasn’t “gone down” once.
One thing that stunned me about his appearance at the enquiry today is the simple fact that when he swore an oath to tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth he didn't spontaneously combust!
@@Lummy62 It is an inquiry into how the gov't dealt with Covid, so we're better prepared for the next pandemic, not an investigation into how it started.
@@Lummy62because the source of the virus is totally irrelevant to what the government did. It doesn't matter if its from China or from Norway. What matter and what the inquiry is about what the government did.
@@redmed10 WhatsApp is owned by FaceBook, which was fined 110 million Euros for lying to the EU that they were technically incapable of extracting user information, before going on to do just that to insert FB advertising. I wouldn't expect straight answers from Meta about their ability to retrieve No 10's texts.
These missing watsapp messages MUST exist in the archives of the people he was communicating with...... How could it be possible to have lost them all?
@@Lummy62I have whatsapp messages from 2020, this is the second time you've spewed this mince on this thread, I seriously suggest you go and find out how Whatsapp works.
After teaching young adolescents for 40 years you get a real strong indication of when students deflect, cover up, lie by omission and just blatantly lie.... enough said!
No apologies acceptable as it is an insult to all in this country who lost their loved ones! The people want to know when are criminal charges going to be implemented for these traitors?
The entire culture of Parliament Elitism needs to be scrutinised thoroughly when it produces “examples” like this, something is broken. The Chocolate factory is producing ssshhh….. then telling us it’s a Lion bar….!?!
I gave the inquiry WHAT I THINK IT NEEDS. Anyone else suffered random message removal EVER, ANY APP? It doesn't happen. Inquiry is a joke and a waste of taxpayers money. This should be a criminal trial.
Unfit for Office, I would quite happily sacrifice some of my taxes to pay for people to follow these jokers and shout shame every time they step out in public.
You mean the Met? Seriously? They probably had the goon who stands outside number 10 pop inside and reset the phone while Johnson uttered " hurry up you pleb,"
Lol, do you think Boris is worried about consequences here? This is a Punch and Judy show. The appearance of accountability. BJ is just limited PR damage as much as he can. He'll be on a plane to the US next week to give a talk about leadership for £300k
He's slowly realising that his bullshitting isn't going to rescue him. He now knows his reputation is in tatters, and the history books will not show him in good light.
I believe this enquiry is just the sideshow after the Circus that in the past 3, almost 4 years we have witnessed. Most of the clowns have left & all that's gonna happen is, once they have all been questioned, they will just be told that they ain't getting their jobs back. End of. Nobody will get prosecuted. I so so want to be wrong. But the shenanigans over those past 3/4 years is testament that some people can actually get away with murder.
