I dont think she is doing it on purpose. If her grandparents moved to the South Side during The Great Migration, and she grew up with them living in the same house, then of course she would have what sounds like an Alabama accent. They were her great influence, especially if she was a bit sheltered and grew up in that church life, surrounded by that Alabama community on the South Side of Chicago.
