Is it ok to use a Borla Crate Muffler on a Chevy Silverado? I asked this question to Borla and they said it should be fine to run it, but it is not made for the truck. This muffler is made for specific engines to cut down on drone. It is tuned for an engine that has a displacement of 327ci. The 5.3L is 325ci. so that is pretty close. This Borla Atak Muffler sounds awesome and has a nice deep tone. This Borla Atak is not as loud as the muffler delete but pretty close. The problem with the Muffler Delete was that it wasn't a controlled tone. It would blare sometimes and I wasn't crazy about that. The Borla Atak full exhaust system is not available on the 5.3L V8. They only sell the Borla Atak Exhaust system on the 6.2L V8. I will leave the part number below. You will have to buy this muffler through an aftermarket reseller. Sometimes they have them in stock and sometimes you will have to order them.

Lol same! And the problem is, they don’t sell the Atak system for our trucks. They only have the S-Type and the Touring. Which, the S-Type does sound good and looks good with the carbon fiber tips, but you can’t beat this deal!

Best upgrade on my TB? BFG KO 2's! SO much quieter than the stock Wranglers and better all around ride. Wish I did it three years ago!

I do like K02s and have run them in the past on other trucks. I wanted to run Mickey Thompsons new tires this time but they didn’t have the size I wanted nor did the BF Goodrich. So I went with the nittos this time for the exact size I wanted.

Yeah I bought the crate mufflers for my rt challenger and I do get that exact same sound as the full cat back. Borla atak isn't loud on the inside, but when you step out and go the the rear of the car it sounds badass. Don't hesitate to get the ATAk mufflers. Cut off the resonators while you're at it if you want the full experience.

It’s pretty crazy how the companies have you pay $1500-$2000 for exhaust systems when you get similar sound from just changing the muffler. Swapped out mufflers on my challenger 6.4 for $150 with install and it sounded amazing!

Totally agree, I mean a pipe is a pipe. I have never understood why people spend thousands on full exhaust systems when you can just change the muffler.

Great video. I want to do the same thing you did but with the S-type. I have a 21 Trailboss 5.3 and i am trying to figure out the correct borla part number i would need. Not sure on outlet/inlet size & position. Ive been looking on sumit racing at crate mufflers and i just wanna make sure i am picking the right one. Definitely dont want any drone in my system.

Thanks. I went with 400823 and the muffler shop had no problems welding it to fit. I would also recommend getting it from RealTruck.com or autoanything.com. A lot of times if you chat with them, they will knock off like 5%-10% your order. That’s how I got mine cheaper. Hope this helps!

Does the borla attack do anything for the idle or it pretty much idles as it would a straight pipe? I haven't been able to look at a borla atak in person but from what i've seen online the design seems like a straight pipe with a tiny pipe that offshoots into the case probably to tone it a bit and control drone. Did you have a chance to look inside the muffler at all? If so did it look anything like that?

The idle in park sits around 500rpm, I did look in the muffler but could not see in it because it is offset on both sides.

I love the way the sounds. Think I wanna go this route and leave the factory resonators. It’s my family vehicle so don’t want it too crazy but love the tone. I have a 2020 Silverado LT w/ 5.3, I’m struggling to find the displacement on this truck. Any idea wheee I can find it? Wanna make sure this part number will work…see some others on RU-vid running the 400844 part number

Make sure you get one that is 327. Also, before you make a decision on the one muffler, check out the true dual video I made with two of them. And I had the resonators removed.

@@zachattackcustoms I saw that video, sounds awesome man. You have a kiddo you haul around, how loud is it in the truck? That’s mainly the big concern, have a 6 year old and a new one coming at any time so I don’t want it too loud in there.

It’s not that loud in the truck unless you get on it. I actually grabbed the baby monitor the other day and watched it in the morning when I did a cold start to see if she would wake up and she didn’t. lol

How does the drone sound, since this muffler isn't made from the 5.3L? I called Borla and they mentioned that it would likely be a heavy drone i were to buy and install the ATAK crate muffler to my 5.3L Chevy. Thanks for your feedback

I experienced no drone with the single muffler and resonator screens still installed. I now have two Borla muffler and resonator screens gone and now I do have drone.

Have you had any issues with it? I installed mines 3 days ago and yesterday end up getting a bunch of codes and now it’s throwing smoke like a chimney!

No, I haven’t had any issues. I actually just got a second one in for a true dual setup. Did they install it the wrong way possibly? This muffler has to go a specific way but the muffler shop should know that.

If it was installed correctly, I would try disconnecting the battery to reset the computer.

When I did the muffler delete I lost about 2mpg, and when I switched to this muffler I gained that back. So technically, adding this muffler did not increase gas mileage.

I think it’s about the same, where you will lose the MPGs is when you add the oversized tires. Now muffler delete sure dropped my MPGs

Just ask them to cut off your muffler and replace it with the Borla and ask them to cut off the flapper valve as well.
