Boros Stoneblade & Sunforger Combo | A Guide To Every Deck In Modern 

I like the idea of "budget" decks, but they usually translate to "bad" decks. However, I've thought of talking about the cheaper decks in formats or reasonable downgrades that significantly reduce costs while not harming viability much.

Just invest in a modern deck you like and play it forever. The whole point of playing modern is to enjoy powerful cards and combos. If you're too poor to play modern then use proxies if your playgroup allows it.

I originally thought they were interesting and good inclusions in the format, but as things have progressed they moved to degeneracy, combining them with Ephemerate and whatnot.

@@AmmiO2 people were being degenerate with them from day 1 lol, they've just refined them now. Degenerate is so subjective anyway, but I do somewhat agree that having SO many free spells in modern kinda takes it's flavor away. With all these free spells and force of negation in the format it really does feel like legacy lite now. All that said I think the groaning about the evoke elementals is overblown. They're almost always card disadvantage and even when being "degenerate" they're card neutral. Undying evil on grief is a 2 for 2. Albeit one that can grab your 2 best cards on turn 1 and leaves them a 4 power evasive beater.....but still. This is the format where affinity dumps it's hand turn 1 or 2, elves can hardcast emrakul turn 3 or 4 if unmolested, neobrand can swing with griselbrand turn 2, etc etc. I honestly think the evoke elementals act as great safety valves keeping other degeneracy in check. And it's not like there's no counterplay to the elementals - void mirror, pithing needle stops evoke, Lavinia, regular old removal LOL. Among others. But what are you gonna do, magic players always gonna bitch.

@@scotbush4338 My point was that their usage became MORE degenerate over time. I don't hate them, but I do think they're a net negative to the format. PS: Pithing Needle doesn't stop evoke.

@@AmmiO2 you damn sure right. If stops cycling so I assumed it did evoke but it makes sense it doesn't, it's an alternate casting cost. Anyway. I disagree, I think they're net positives on the format.

The cost is not the same. Repeated Reverberation costs 4 from hand but only 2 via Sunforger.

@@AmmiO2 I said lightning bolts and manamorphose, not repeated reverberation. Also, you can sunforger to cast repeated reverberation, cast manamorphose (either sunforger or from hand), cast repeated reverberation from hand, sunforger repeated reverberation, then lightning bolt from sunforger or from hand. If you draw 2 reverberations, the combo only takes 1 extra mana for the bolt, 2 if it’s not in hand

@@AmmiO2 well, if the manamorphoses or bolts are in your hand it’s the exact same combo, you just cast it from your hand instead of your deck. The only bad thing that can happen is 2 reverberations. Even then, I think you can actually get away with using the valakut awakening to put them to the bottom: Sunforger -> reverberation Sunforger or from hand -> manamorphose Sunforger -> reverberation Sunforger or from hand -> manamorphose You now have 8 mana Sunforger -> valakut awakening, tuck both reverberations Sunforger -> reverberation Sunforger -> reverberation Sunforger or from hand -> bolt You can also get away with having 3 in hand with a similar move: Sunforger -> reverberation Sunforger or from hand -> manamorphose Sunforger -> valakut awakening Sunforger -> reverberation Sunforger or from hand -> manamorphose Sunforger -> reverberation Sunforger -> reverberation Sunforger or from hand -> bolt It seems like the only fail case is 4 reverberation in hand, or drawing valakut awakening the turn you’re about to combo or off the manamorphoses. Seems like that means you should be using awakening after the first reverberation -> manamorphose combo even if you only have 2 in hand.

Why do you hate fun? Seriously though, while it's playable, this is definitely worse than Hammer Time, but I did call this series "Every Deck" in Modern.

@@AmmiO2 *shrug* I run Elf Ball in Modern. I understand what it is to have your pet deck not be good in a strongly competitive environment. But *imitating* an actually good deck with a deliberately worse version isn't being creative. It's intentionally choosing to power down to run a pet card. Again, nothing wrong with that, if it's *your* pet card and *you* running it. But this brew? It doesn't fit the "every deck in Modern" vibe. It doesn't fit the "budget decks in Modern" vibe. It has no home.
