The most common question we get about headsets is one of those classic “Coke or Pepsi” questions: should I buy the Bose A30 or Lightspeed Delta Zulu? It’s a natural comparison-both are the latest top-of-the-line headsets from leading aviation headset companies-but the good news is that there’s no wrong answer. Both headsets are outstanding, with impressive noise reduction, thoughtful comfort features, and full Bluetooth connectivity for iPads. Instead of Coke or Pepsi, this is really a choice between Ferrari or Lamborghini.
Having said that, there are some important differences between the A30 and the Delta Zulu. Whether these are important depends on your personal preferences and your typical flight. We’ll lay out all the details in this video and even offer some of our opinions. Ride along with Doug and Branden on a long cross-country in a Cessna as they compare both models.

The mic on the delta zulu sounds better than the bose A30 through the ICS in this video. Could be a function of the position of the mic, but it is noticeably better IMO

I bought the Lightspeed Delta Zulu from Sporty‘s a few weeks ago as I work on my private pilot license. The ANR is awesome compared to the loaners I was using. I was skeptical at first when I downloaded the app as there were complaints about the recording feature but it has captured all of my flights with no issues so far and it allows me to go back and review my lesson and cockpit audio. So comfortable too! Satisfied customer right here.

Dumb question; but is there an alternative for recording your flight audio? Some type of add-on peripherial, not involving apps, adding another wave/signal to the cockpit, nor pushing me to get an iphone???

I have both, neither is way better than the other but if I had to pick which is better I barely would go with the Lightspeed over the Bose but you cannot go wrong with either. I did have a small issue with Lightspeed and their tech was quick and easy to get it fixed.

Thank you so much for this comment. For someone debating which one to buy, this is a $1000-worth opinion. I guess I'll go with the Zulu simply because the general impression I'm getting is that they're very very similar, for nearly half the price... I can afford both, but it just seems wasteful.

Thank you for the review. My personal experience with Lightspeed has been really bad. I had two Zulus with broken cables and there were no spare parts available from the manufacturer. The support was horrible and now the headsets are essentially garbage. I can only warn against purchasing a Lightspeed headset based on my experience.

The proprietary charging connector is just dumb. Ive had the A20s for going on 6 years now and they're starting to show their age. I feel like the A30s dont provide enough of an improvement to upgrade to them other than being slightly more streamlined. Im going to try out the DZ but cant even fathom why they decided to use a proprietary cable, everything uses usb c now...i charge every device in my flight bag with a single cable. This is a stain on an otherwise perfect headset.

Just why? Why use UAC connector? USB C is the standard now. Just dumb.

I tried the Lightspeed DZ since I have hearing loss and was not impressed by them. The hearing test is a joke. My Bose A20s were hands down better at clarifying ATC instructions.

If you've ever had to deal with Bose's customer service, you'll *never give them another dime of your money.* Lightspeed 100% for me!

My experience with Bose customer service was exactly the opposite. I had an incredibly wonderful experience.

Just use rechargeable AA batteries for the Bose, or anything else in your house and don’t buy batteries again. I’d rather have two backup rechargeable AA batteries in my bag than a larger heavier backup battery.

There are AA-shaped lithium rechargeable batteries, but obviously they hold less charge because the charging port has to fit there.

@@nullfield1126couldn’t you also get rechargeable normal double a batteries?
