im gonna buy bose just because im so used to bose sound , even tho harman is better or cheaper, when i listened to my old songs, did not make me the same feelings with other brands, im a bose addicted lol, when i listened with bose products it immediatly take me back to that moment lok

Great Video! Super helpful as I try to decide which one to get. The listening part was confusing but I could tell that the onyx bass was better. I've been researching for about a week. I'm a huge audiophile especially since I studied music for so many years. I own both a Bose and Hartman Kardon Onyx 2.....now I need to decided what mini I want to travel with. I would like to mention that the Bose soundlink 2 has great bass too so it down to that and the mini Onyx. Wish me luck

Thanks for your great review, Nick - I like how you did an in-depth verbal comparison of both speakers, and gave us a good overview of both before playing the music comparison, I know that Bose makes great bluetooth speakers, but i prefer not to pay full price for electronics. That's also how I acquired the Klipsch KMC 1 for less than half the original price of $300. I picked up the HK Onyx Mini about a week ago from Best Buy, didn't intend on buying it, but when I saw it on the shelf for $50 I could not pass it up. Overall I do like the sound of the HK Onyx Mini, I have been comparing it to the Sony SRS X3 that I bought over a year ago, the HKOM definitely has better bass, but then again, some songs sound better on the Sony. But on the other hand, the Sony sounds muffled sometimes like it's struggling to get sound out compared to the HKOM. Probably will keep the Onyx and use it as well. I can't put my finger on it, but there's something about the Onyx that doesn't sound as good as other speakers with certain songs - does it have a strong midrange presence and it's lacking highs? It just had a different sound quality to it. Also, there's another bluetooth guru out here, who talks about removing the speaker grill on the Onyx Mini to improve the high/treble response, which seems to work. I may give that a try.

Since nov 2017 you can pair the 2 colors in stereo mode after a firmware update. 1 onyx mini sounds better than a bosecolor because the onyx drivers are separated and facing outwards giving it more soundstage and cleaner sound, the drivers in the color are right next to each other. But that weakness of the color 2 becomes a strength when paired in STEREO MODE, since the drivers are close together they create a uniform wave of clean sound for each channel.

The Harman Kardon wins, remarkable little speaker. I recently bought a Anker sound Motion+ and even that has a hard job beating the Onyx Mini.

The Harmon kardon is always gonna win against boses or beats because they have been making sound systems for years and the small sub woofers increase the range in sound

i got an aux cable so i could hook the bose up to my computer where i have a lot of music and oh my!! my test is always donne iris "ah leah" and the scorpions "animal magnetism". yeah baby, i'm very happy and just what i expected from bose!!

Gr8 review. Totally agree both are good speakers. I love my Onyx Mini. Just purchased for $49.99 at Best Buy. Yes that is correct I did not leave out a "1". The Bose was still $129 as it has been for a couple years. Advice. Leave out the audio test on your next review as everything sounds the same when listening on another speaker system. My tiny phone included.

Bose has big software issue...it won’t get ON sometimes or won’t charge if gets ON...automatically opens siri app on iphone or google assistant..again n again..automatically pause/play irritates alot....problem persist even after resetting again n again....hope they they provide a nice update this time..

I don't think Bose really understand our need for that deep bass sound. They've been around for many years and they STILL don't get it! They say, "it's never too late"... but is time running out for Bose?

Clarity is better on Bose And HK is better for high beats pitch sounds HK seems like its far away but fills more bass.

Bose is the speaker. And has been so for a very long time. Their price reflects such. I am looking to purchase the Onyx because it does not look like an exspensive speaker. And can sit on the porch and not be noticed. Plus i want to find it for about $50. I am searching Amazon. And bestbuy. I dont trust Ebay with this kind of purchase. I have purchased knock off there. In bluetooth headphones, and some cologne.

I can't stand bose's artificial sound. Coming from a klipsch gig with a flat response, the Harmon kardon sounds far better. Flatter response and truer sound.
